I was told that giving to "worldly" charities-even stuff like the food bank, with no religious affiliations, was "making beds in a burning building"-a pointless waste of time, better spent knocking on doors. What a crock. Why did I ever listen to such selfish crap? So now I tend to overcompensate by spreading myself too thin with charity fundraisers. I hope to find some sense of balance soon, but I guess it's better to be too altruistic than too uncaring, if I must go to one extreme or the other.

Why does God create abominations?
by CPiolo inmany religious folks, including fundamentalists, moderates and liberals, from a multitude of faiths, including jehovah?s witnesses, claim that homosexuals, bisexuals and trans-gendered individuals are abominations in the eyes of god.
they believe these people are sinners of the worst sort, that their behavior is a perversion, is evil, dangerous and a threat to society, the family and/or ?family values.?
these poor souls are going to be punished in some way by god for their choices and behavior ?

For what it's worth, I used to have a gay cat. I'm not joking, this is serious. Tut showed no interest in female cats, not even when they were in heat and practically ravishing him. However, he had sex on a regular basis with a younger male cat. The other cat (New Moon) put up with it, but has never shown any sexual interest in other male cats.
So, I'm thinking it's not a learned behavior, just how my kitties were born. Tut was gay, and could not be convinced to go straight. New Moon is straight, and could not be turned gay. For the record, I loved them both equally, fed them the same food, etc. The vet told me that a small percentage of animals are gay, and seem to be so from their kitten/puppyhoods.
I tend to think of homosexuality in humans the same way-neither a good thing nor a bad thing, just one more facet of our individuality. Only, humans have turned it into some big, moral issue, like we actually have a choice what gender we respond to. Like it even matters, people! I can't imagine that God would be so petty as to care if her children are straight or gay, so why do we?

right.. i woke up, not able to breathe and see a thing, and i grabbed the phone to call my boyfriend, but i must have misdialed ( thank god, cuz he'd think i was nuts otherwise) and then i tried to scream, but i couldn't.

Vivamus, dear, he's right. Those are classic symptoms of sleep paralysis. Scary as hell, but not demons. Please don't worry, it'll be alright.

WOULD YOU GIVE THE JW'S THIS?
by integ ina jw relative brought out something i actually had to agree with.
we were discussing positive vs. negative aspects of the "truth".
she brought out that the witnesses do not participate in war, and i thought 'gee, that's probably a good thing'.

OK. I've given this some thought.
Some of the most beautiful individuals I've known have been witnesses. Truly wonderful people: great friends, terrific parents. Conversely, the single most evil being I've ever encountered was a witness. So, I try to judge the individual on their own merits, not the organization they belong to.
That having been said, WTBS has no redeeming qualities that I'm aware of, and they can kiss my sweet native butt.

What does your name mean?
by Insomniac inok, i'm sure this topic has been covered before, but i'm new here, so indulge me.

ChimChim-what I thought when I read your name was, in the Mary Poppins movie, when the chimney sweep sings a jolly song about his job. One of the lines was "Chim-chiminy, chim-chiminy, chim chim cheree, when you're with a sweep, you're in glad company!" and I assumed you were referencing that. It's before your time, but such a cute movie!

OK, I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I'm new here, so indulge me. What do everyone's screen names mean? Some are pretty self-explanatory, but a few have me intrigued. As it's an identity you chose for yourself, your screen name must say a lot about how you view yourself, and how you want others to view you. The same goes for the avatars (little pictures next to your screen names.) What are they? And what are they meant to convey? With so many great names and avatars on this board, I'll bet there are some cool stories to go with them. Anybody want to share?
My name, Insomniac, is what I am-I've tried pills, herbs, meditation, etc., and I still lie awake. My avatar is an old photo of Theda Bara, silent movie actress who was in a lot of "dark" roles. So, I'm the dark lady who never sleeps.

tattoos...did you rebel and get one?
by morty inafter i left the "troof" the first thing i did was run out and get a tattoo.now ,some 18 years later i still dont regret it.i even have gotten a couple of new ones in the past couple of years......i mean not that i am covered in them, but i think if a women has them ,there is nothing wrong with that has long as they are not all over everywhere.ie...neck,face or lower arms......... i just think it is sexy on a man..( a few....not on the same areas as the women ..ie..face and neck as well.
) but for a women to have them all over her is not attractive....i think for a women to have a couple in a suddle place..( like for your partner to see or find.lol) is sexy as well...this girl in our town, has them covering her face and arms.i just think she looks scary......(i do also think that they must be done professionally and kept realistic.
)...i know your not to judge a book by its cover but, this girl wonders why, parents will not let children to her house to play with her child?
