Hmmm, gimme something more to go on. Is it a man or a woman singing it? And what type of music, rock, hip-hop, reggae...? Somehow it's reminding me of something I heard recently, maybe Outkast?

Has anyone still have the hope..................
by defd infor living forever on a paradise earth?
if not, why?

Oy vey. Defd, it seems like every time you post around here, it starts a big ol' controversy! But I dig that, I really do; these discussions always force me to reflect on just what it is I believe now that I'm no longer a witness. I do enjoy these discussions, as long as all parties remain civil to one another. Agreeing with each other isn't important, but civility mos def is.
To answer your original question, no, I no longer look forward to paradise on Earth. I don't think I ever really did, to be honest with you. I think that waiting for God to wipe out the evil and clean up all the toxic sludge we've smeared on this planet is really just a way of avoiding our own responsibilities. If conditions on Earth are terrible, then we, humanity, need to fix them. It's up to us to make this world a paradise, or to at least try. We've screwed things up so badly at this point, it will take quite a long time to clean up the environment, find a cure for AIDS, bring peace to the Middle East, etc., perhaps this will take us a thousand years or more. We'll never get it done within this lifetime; therefore the Divine ones who created us have given us the loving provision of reincarnation, so we can keep coming back until our work is done right.
Please do not take this expression of my beliefs as a condemnation of yours. While I may not agree with your religion, I respect your right to talk about it, just as I know you respect the wonderful spectrum of beliefs represented on this discussion board.

I was always touched by the story of Lot's wife, turned into a pillar of salt for a glance behind her. She and her family were fleeing into the hills like a bunch of refugees, the town where she'd lived, her house, her friends, maybe a few grandkids, were all being destroyed by fire and sulphur from the sky. Imagine her fear and grief as she stumbled on the rocks; perhaps she could hear the screams of the dying people. Then, she turned for one last look at the destruction...and her merciful god turned her to salt. Did her family pause for a few moments, to say a few words for the wife and mother they'd lost? Or did they keep running, leaving her behind without another thought? I guess they just left her, otherwise their god would have killed them as well.
This story gets me sad, then I remind myself that it's fiction.

I've always enjoyed a good magic show, although I knew better than to tell any other witnesses, cuz they were all scared of the deemunz who help make cards disappear.
David Copperfield is pretty hokey at times, but his tv specials were always lots of fun. David Blaine (when he does illusions, not just crappy stuff like locking himself in a glass box for a week) is very entertaining as well.

Movies...the Good, the Bad & the Ugly
by hibiscusfire indo you like to watch movies or tv?.

Gangs of New York was awesome. Scorsese is a national treasure.Life is Beautiful
To Live and Die in LA
Monty Python- Holy Grail and Meaning of Life
Gold Rush, Modern Times, City Lights, The Kid- all films by Charlie Chaplin.
Swingers
Napoleon Dynamite
Slacker
Run Lola Run
Mystery Train
These are all movies I'll watch multiple times.
edited to add: Troy, starring a baby-oil coated Brad Pitt, was the worst movie I've seen in the past year. Somehow they managed to turn a truly exciting story into silly, vapid mush. The script was ridiculous and the acting was bad, even by Brad Pitt's standards.

Losing My Mind
by joelbear ini feel like i have been slowly losing my mind since the age of 10 or so, maybe before that.
the process seems to be speeding up.
it may just be an inevitable fact of my existence.

joelbear- You were a member of a high-control cult, and you managed to get out. I don't know if you're da'd, df'd, faded, or what, but the very fact that you're here on this website talking freely tells me that you've "emancipated yourself from mental slavery."
That fact alone sets you apart as one amazingly brave, intelligent, and strong person. Do you have any idea how rare these qualities are? How rare it is to escape a cult? How effing special that makes you? This, along with your doctor's help, will pull you through this crisis. You're going to come out the other side of this thing even stronger than before. Please don't ever doubt yourself.

How do you interact on the board?
by Fe2O3Girl inhow do you use the board?
do you bother reading people's posts when you start a topic, and acknowledge their response?.
do you read all the posts on a thread when you post to see if someone has added more details, or already posted what you would have said?

Terry- even though I don't often reply, I do look forward to reading your posts. You have an elegant way of expressing yourself, and are very articulate and well-read.
To answer the question: I read much more than I post. It bugs me when I craft a thoughtful, thought-provoking post, and for whatever reason it gets lost in the shuffle and no one acknowledges it; therefore, I often keep my thoughts on deeper subjects to myself. I try hard not to reply to people who seem to be trying to pick a fight, but once in a while, I give in to temptation.

Are you honest when you say your age?
by JH ini know people who don't say their real age, like take off 2 or 3 years.... my mom looks younger than her age, so she sometimes took off a few years.
gee, i'm just the opposite, i rather say my real age, and wait for a compliment saying "hey you look good for your age".
how about you, do you ever lie on your age?
-
Insomniac
I like to mess with people's heads, so when they ask, I'll often tell outrageous lies, such as that I just turned 18, or I'm 58. But, it's obvious that I'm lying, not shaving off a few years for vanity's sake. My grandmother always told people she was 39, right up until she was 89! Not sure, though, how she explained a granddaughter in her mid-thirties.

defd- there are numerous books out there, full of great insights and lessons. Ever read the Koran? or the Canterbury Tales? Or Beowulf? How about the Gnostic Gospels? Recently, I read a neat little book by His Holiness the Dalai Lama- I wish I could tell you the name, so you could go buy yourself a copy, but it's packed in one of my many boxes (I'm moving.) The Bible is an interesting reference work, to be sure, but it's not the only book we should be reading.

How many exJWs are now pagan? Why?
by Sirona ini was just wondering how many exjehovahs witnesses are now pagan?
of the exjws i've met, quite a few either describe themselves as pagan or pretty much have "pagan" type religious views.. i wonder if it is a backlash against the control of the jws - to choose a religion which has "no rules" as such.
also, is it rebellion?

About ten years ago, while working as a cook at a private school, I was approached by a student (16 years old) who was taking a survey for his Comparative Religion class. He asked me a number of questions regarding my religious views. Just for the halibut, I gave him truthful answers, not the noxious, hate-fueled rhetoric of the WTBTS. I didn't even know what I would say, until the words came out of my mouth.
When he asked me if God was male or female, I told him I saw God as a perfect blend of both sets of qualities, although I was most comfortable with the female aspect. I told him I couldn't imagine God wanting us to worship Her in a building, when She'd given us all of nature as a cathedral. When he asked me which holidays I celebrated, I mentioned the Memorial, but admitted that I had for years privately observed the Solstices and Equinoxes, as they are holy days that are not man-made, but God-created. It felt immensely good to talk about this stuff honestly to another person. When we were done talking, he matter-of-factly told me that, while I claimed to be of a fundamentalist Christian faith, my beliefs put me squarely in the category of...Neo-Pagan! I was shocked, because I knew nothing about Paganism; these beliefs had all been intuitive realizations for me.
Later, much later, I read some books, took some quizzes, had some long conversations with the Divine. I no longer bother to keep up a pretense of Christianity; although I respect the Christians, their way is not my way. I just know that Paganism feels right for me- as if I've shed a set of borrowed clothes that never quite fit, and put on my own that do.
