Hi Sargon
I had never run accross that inconsistency before but I went to my Hebrew interlinear and looked it up. I'm not a linguist either but know a tad about the Bible Languages.
The actual Hebrew reads:
"Yahweh for this he-is-said like-Nimrod mighty hunter before Yahweh"
You need to translate that into english sentence structure which is what the modern translations (NAD, NIV,KJV,etc) have done.
Notice the word 'opposition' is not in the verse at all. The hebrew words are directly above the translation in the interlinear and there are no extra words that could be translated 'opposition'.
The NWT has inserted an extra word that does not exist in the original manuscripts.

The BIBLE is TOO CompleX to understand
by plmkrzy inhonest this started out as just a question, really.
i have a question .
it may seem a bit irrelevant.

From my experience and understanding The Bible is not complicated. The text itself is simple and can be read and obtain information from. I do think that if it's to mean anything to a person you need faith in the true God. Before I was a christian and while I was a JW, I read the Bible out of trying to prove I was 'good'. I read the words but didn't understand anything. Half the time I had no idea what i had just read and occasionally I'd grasp the storyline but it meant nothing to me. It was disconnected from my reality.
When I decided I cared what it said and that I wanted to know the truth I read the Bible in a whole new way. Not some corny light from heaven or anything but it seriously made a lot more sense. I remembered what I read and was able to connect it to other scriptures. I was able to see what the moral of the story was and how to apply it to my life. I was able to see the true God in the Bible and the desire to know the truth and that God won out over the WTBS indoctrination.
It's written to us from God so I don't think it is confusing exactly, But it is true that if you don't really care about what you're reading it's not going to make sense and may seem confusing.
Christian should not think it's too confusing to understand though-- they have the love and desire and the Holy Spirit to help too. The Holy Spirit is not and Organization or the actions of God. He indwells believers for life. He's not going to get yanked out. If one truly loves God and seeks him he will find him. The Bible is written to every believer not just the elite that want to tell you what to think. OK, I'll can it for now <>< AngieBTW withheld- I'm not confused.......

Any other churches call themselves the 'truth'??
by Beck_Melbourne inold habits die hard...and quite often in my comments i will refer to the borg as the 'truth'.
does anyone know of any other churches that refer to their own particular church or religion as the 'truth'??
also, does anyone know how it originated...all my life i have used the term...comments like 'how long have u been in the truth?

Beck--
Jesus calls himself The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
True Christians have the Truth. Don't neccessarily call themselves 'The truth' like the dubs do because truth is God and comes from God, not us humans or 'religions'- even the ones that are sincere and believe the truth. Christian is a better term because thats what they used in the Bible but titles aren't my thing .Other faiths also believe they have the truth (which only makes sense because why follow or believe something you know is wrong).
Truth is absolute and (evidence proves) that it is in the Bible and it alone holds infallible truth. I could argue what it says but I don't think Yardif & the other JWs are really open for discussion on what the truth is. When a mind is already made up that they are infallible there is no room for discussion. And if one is unwilling to change for the truth it is also pointless. I don't believe I am infallible. I do know I have studied my faith and the Bible and all the evidence and am sure that I am following the true Yahweh. If it were ever proved from scripture that I had been wrong, I would change because I love God and only follow him. As I know the scriptures rather well, having read them in their entirity several times, I know that what I believe is what the Bible teaches. If anyone challenges that they can e-mail me Have fun Guys! <>< Angie -

Bible Fake: Jesus Stills the Storm
by JosephAlward ini've argued before in this forum that mark wanted to have jesus seem to be the messiah whose existence he believed--or pretended to believe--was prophesied, foreshadowed, or prefigured, by persons and events found in scripture, so he scoured the writings of the prophets for these stories, and adapted them to fit jesus.
i believe the striking parallels below show almost conclusively that mark's story about jesus stilling the storm was adapted from jonah, and is fictional.. in jonah, a violent storm threatens a ship on which jonah sleeps, so mark made a violent storm threaten a ship on which jesus sleeps.
in jonah, the apprehensive sailors waken jonah and question his cavalier attitude toward the danger, so mark made his boat's captain apprehensive also, and had him, too, waken jesus and question him about his seeming lack of concern.

Huh, a society that lived on the coasts of seas and traveled by boat and fished for their lively hood turning out to have more than one account of a ship in a storm. It must have been plagerized!
Sorry but the reasoning isn't reasonable. And there is reference to the messiah being typical of Jonah-- not jonah himself --
When the Pharisees were demanding a sign or miracle from Jesus he said all the sign they would recieve was the sign of Jonah. Jesus said that as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days so shall he be three days in the belly of the earth(Matt.12:38-41). -

I'm new here
by konkreetgurl inhey everybody, i'm a christian, but i'm not a jehovah's witness and i recently made friends with one, i know little to nothing about this religion and i would like to know more, can anyone help me out by way of how it is different from say, an evangelical free christian church?
and what sort of theology and doctrine jw's go by and such, i'd really appreciate it, thank you

Hey Gurl
Just wanted to say that it was actually my boyfriend and some other friends that helped me out of the WT when I was 15-16 years old.
(I'm 22 now)
My boyfriend had asked me if I was Christian and I said yes (I was JW and didn't know the difference). We started dating and he found out that I meant JW. not christian. He almost broke up with me right there but he decided to try talking to me first. Not to change me but to see what I really thought. Well, it worked. God's love backed up by his and my friends made it easy for me to read the Bible for myself and the rest is history. BTW, he is now my hubby .
I don't suggest you start dating him & try to change his mind-- thats not a good way to start a relationship. Try talking to him first as friends. If you are dating already then try talking anyway.
Well, email for more cuz me gotta go now

Jesus died on a stake or a cross?
by 2SYN inthis is something i've been puzzling over recently.
just for argument's sake, let's say that jesus did exist - was he murdered on a stake or on a cross?
this is puzzling me, because the only real research i've ever read on the subject was in wtbts publications, and since this is obviously a highly questionable source of documentation, i'd love it if someone here could point me to a scientific resource for finding out the truth about this...thx.... the earlier in the forenoon you take the sun bath, the greater will be the beneficial effect, because you get more of the ultra-violet rays, which are healing.

What will you do?
by YoYoMama inwhat will you do when harmageddon is here?
will you ask jehovah for a second chance?.
will you seek to protect your young children?.
-
Adonai438
Yo Yo-
A few thoughts:
Romans 8:1-- No condemnation for those in Christ
1 Thes.1:10--Our faith in Jesus delivers us from the wrath to come
Romans 5:9--Saved from wrath through him
And on and on.......True Christians have nothing to fear--
Jesus has saved from all condemnation, wrath, and tribulation. Harmageddon is not for the believers and the believers will not be present when it occurs.JWs are mistaken in so much, why trust them with ones salvation?
Why trust an org. that disfellowships for studying the Bible?
God gave the world his word and we are meant to study it. If we needed an interpreter for it he would have said so, so study it and find the truth out for yourself! Don't limit God to the JW boxed version, he's so much bigger and better. If you want to talk about it you know where to email me

Knock Knock...
by KistByQpid ini'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.
i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.
i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.
-
Adonai438
I never had the pleasure of doing the door to door as a dub. I have had the pleasure of having them knock at my door though
Didn't take them long to take me off their list. The second you take out a Bible and don't fold to the name of Jehovah scripture they freaked. I guess maybe if you get them off their script they really didn't know what to say. All the sudden they had to go and meet the rest for coffee and ran away. At least thats what they tell me
Whenever I move into a new place they drop by though and I get to start all over with a fresh batch. I figure they come knocking on my door they should have to answer some questions, don't you?
Plus, I don't do the rude thing-- to many people just get annoyed and rude when they could use the opportunity to share a bit of truth with them. If everyone did that maybe we could stop this door to door routine, huh? [8>]
