i left the jw when i was 14 by actions and 21 by a written letter, because i was baptised at the age of 11. .

Thankfully, never baptised so I don't have a problem with them.
They never even remember who I am when they accidentally stumble onto my doorstep- I guess that's the perk of living in a big city :) -

Point taken cygnus but to a jew it is very meaningful. I AM is the name of God given by God himself- that is the meaning of 'Yahweh'-Jehovah. The jews went so far as to add different vowels into this name in their writtings to keep from saying it by accident and thus saying the Lord's name in vain. The fact that Jesus used it of himself repeatedly knowing how the Jew's would take it shows he was intentionally calling himself God here. It may sound like nit-picking over a language but the meaning in the culture was extremly relevant.

If Jesus is not God, then explain...
-How was it possible for Jesus to know all things, (John 21:17)?
-How can Jesus know all men (John 16:30)?
-How can Jesus be everywhere (Matt. 28:20)?
-How can Jesus, the Christ, dwell in you (Col. 1:27)?
-How can Jesus be the exact representation of the Nature of God (Heb. 1:3)?
-How can Jesus be eternal (Micah 5:1-2)?
-How can Jesus be the one who gives eternal life (John 10:27-28)?
-How can He be our only Lord and Master (Jude 4)?
-How can Jesus be called the Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6) if there is only one God in existence (Isaiah 44:6-8; 45:5)?
-How was Jesus able to raise Himself from the dead (John 2:19-21)?
-How can Jesus create all things (Col. 1:16-17), yet it is God who created all things by Himself (Isaiah 44:244)?
-How can Jesus search the hearts and minds of the people (Rev. 2:23)?
-Why was Jesus worshiped (Matt. 2:2,11; 14:33; 28:9; John 9:35-38; Heb. 1:6) when He says to worship God only (Matt. 4:10)? (same Greek word for worship is used in each place.)
-In the OT God was seen (Exodus 6:2-3; 24:9-11; Num. 12:6-9; Acts 7:2), yet no man can see God (Exodus 33:20; John 1:18). It was not the Father that was seen in the OT (John 6:46). Who, then were they seeing? see John 8:58.
-Then why did Jesus claim the divine name, "I AM", for Himself in John 8:58? see Exodus 3:14.
-Then why did Jesus say you must honor him even as you honor the Father (John 5:23)?
-Then why is it that both the Father and the Son give life (John 5:21)?
-Then why did Jesus bear witness of Himself (John 8:18; 14:6)?(carm.org for more information)
Next installment comming soon :)

Blood Or Shunning - Which Bugs You More?
by Englishman ini'm curious about this.
it would appear that active jw's who have reservations about the societies teachings, are usually doubtful about the prohibition of accepting a blood transfusion.
oddly, few seem to have any qualms about the shunning policy whilst they are still associating.
-
Adonai438
When? Now or as a JW?
Now, They both bug me because neither are scriptural.
Shunning is not showing God's love and is just an excuse to keep JW's isolated from anyone who can think for themselves. You see, thinking is the Watchtowers worst enemy. They have to keep their people isolated.
The blood issue is a little more involved and at least I can see how the mistake is made. The Bible does say not to eat blood. The new Testament also says that although that is a reasonable and good rule to follow it is what comes out of a mans mouth (ie words) not what goes in that makes him unclean. And what was the punishment in the OT for eating blood? JW's would have people think it's everlasting cutting off. Cutting off from what? God, them, life? The OT passage actually says that people who have eaten blood must stay outside the camp for a specified amount of time- of the top of my head I can't recall the number but it's not long. The same amount of time for woman who have had babies or menstruated or other non sinning events. It's a means of getting clean before comming back, not a everlasting punishment like JWs teach. Now I shall try not to eat any blood because - yuck - but which is a greater sin- having a blood transfusion or letting your child die?
As a witness I never had to shun anyone so the blood issue would have bugged me more. -

Who of you in this forum have been df'ed?
by YoYoMama inif it is possible can you post why you were disfellowshipped?
-
Adonai438
I wasn't DF'ed-
I was never baptised- so I could not be DFed-
I would have been baptised if I had not I read the Bible for myself when I did. I never filed formal dissaccociation papers but verbally told them that I was a believer in the true Yahweh of the Bible and that meant I was no longer a Jehovah's Witness and would not be attending any longer. I gave them my scriptural reasons and they didn't have much to say.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES
by D wiltshire ini am a believer in christ have been df'd since 7/01, but left the jw's in my heart for some time before that.. i feel that the gifts of the spirit didn't end in the 1st and 2nd century but should continue until the church is no longer on earth.. i have been to serveral different christian groups and have heard many speak in tongues, but to be honest i'm not very impressed.. it seems to be, not supernatural,.. but more like the reaction you get when you jump in very cold water, and get a terrible chill that makes your jaw vibrate.. the women seems to be the most prominent ones in speaking in tongues, so i wonder if it is just an emotional response, more than any thing else?.
and if paul said to limit the speaking in tongues to just 2 and only if there is an interpeter, why does the speaking in tongues become so prominent at these meetings?
and how come i never hear a translator interpet what is said?.

Adonai438
I know what you mean DW-
It does seem a little odd to be around so many people talking at the same time-
earlier someone mentioned the Bible states it should only be two people at once and should have an interpreter-- If I remember correctly it is actually those rules if the persons speaking in tongues are addressing the congregation- If the person is worshipping God then there is no need for an interpreter because God knows what they are saying.
In another thread you brought this up so I'll paste it in here:Yes I believe that the gifts of the Spirit are still in operation today.
-I do not believe as some do that you have to have certain ones to
be saved (ie- tongues for the Bible says not all have the same
gifts).-Others tend to forbid certain gifts that are more miraculous in
appearance because it makes them nervous but that too is an extreme
that is wrong
(1st Corinthians 14:39 says do not forbid speaking in tongues)-When you are 'saved'- have put your faith in the true God- the
Spirit gives you gifts according to his will
-1st Corinthians 12:7-11.-1st Corinthians 13:8-10 says that these will pass away but that
happens when 'perfection comes'-- pefection has not come yet :)-Not everyone who 'displays' these are true Christians though as
Satan tries to copy everything of God's for deception. -

God is editor of the WT
by Earnest inin an earlier thread reference was made to a court case in which fred franz stated that jehovah god was editor of the "watch tower".
as this quotation is often used to support the allegation that jws believe the wt is inspired of god i thought it would be of wider interest to provide the relevant court record for general consideration.. the court case itself was in 1940 and was olin moyle against fred franz and others and the wtbts.
just so that you know who is who, hayden covington was attorney for the defendants and walter bruchhausen was attorney for the plaintiff.

Earnest- Here is another quote from the trial in question regarding claims of inspiration. Hope you find it insightful as there are MANY more in their books as well- if you are interested.
Nathan Homer Knorr-For Defts-CrossKnorr is being cross examined the answer portion is him.
Olin Moyle v. WTBTS, 1943, Section #4421Q: But you don't make any such statement, that you are subject to
correction, in your Watch Tower papers, do you?
A: Not that I recall.
Q: In fact, it is set forth as God's Word, isn't it?
A: Yes, as his word.
Q: Without any qualification whatsoever?
A: That is right. -

I feel it is important to read the Bible, but to have wrong ideas is to be expected, for who is it that can proclaim, his version of understanding of the Bible the right one.
I agree to a point. I agree that as humans we are fallible in our interpretations of the Bible. I also think that God wouldn't have given us the Bible if it was too hard to understand- it's written to us after all. Some people have their minds closed when reading it and that hinders them from taking anything of value from it and misunderstanding what it says.
