What do you not understand? JWs believe that it is satanic to celebrate any holiday. They cite sources that say pagans also have holidays the same day to obscure the true meaning of holidays. Other holidays they says it's wrong to honor something or someone on just one day a year instead of every day. Point is, they obscure the meaning of every holiday and require total obediance to the ban-- in practicality isolating their people on purpose to keep them submitted. They believe they are doing right but they are mistaken.
Biblically, holidays are not forbidden and some are commanded, the concept of honoring God on days to commemorate his miracles is also biblical. If you have specific holidays in mind just ask & I can give their argument and the scriptural reply.

My story is to long to tell......
by zugzzwan ini am new to this forum but i have for the past several days been reading posts from people that for the first time in 26 years have pasts, memories and feelings like my self.
suffice to say that i too was born and raised in "the truth".
i have at one time or another been, a ms, a vacation pioneer, a regular pioneer, a disfellowship individual, a re-instated individual, publicly reproved, privately reproved and finally for the past 7 years a man who they don't even come on my property cause he's a nut who might shoot you and will at the very least call the police and have you arrested for trespassing individual.. unlike so many others though i find no personal desire to rant or rage against the machine.

Food for thought though- Just because the JWs got it wrong doesn't mean God isn't real.
I also had a similar thought when I left the WT. I became a christian and JWs always screamed 'eternal cutting off' at me- they can't say I'm going to hell [8>]. If God is real and I am right then I'll be in heaven, If JWs are right [which they aren't] then nothing will happen anyway. WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME! -

Does God really have a Name?

I don't know if the Catholics had a hand in the name Jehovah or not but I do know that it is a High German, transliterated combination of two words. In fact, "Jehovah" is the one way we know for sure is NOT the corect name of God. The Jewish people take the commandment of not taking the name of God in vain so seriously that they do not use it at all-- in writing or speaking. Their scribes, when copying the OT, actually inserted the vowels from other words like Adonai(Lord) or Elohim(God) into the tetragrammaton (YHWH) on purpose. The reason for this was to keep the name of God in the inspired places but to clue the reader in to what to say instead of God's name when reading it outloud. So they would instead say Adonai or Elohim which is Lord or God. This shows that since the word 'Yehowah' or 'Jehovah' IS there that it is NOT the correct rendering because the Jews were so superstitious or vigilent about this that they would not have written the correct name of God. The Jewish people still practice this today and can vouch for the innaccuracy of the translation 'Jehovah'. We do, however, have anciet artifacts that do have the Tetragrammaton (YHWH) with its vowels in it and is most literally YAHWEH. I can provide documentation for this if neccessary
I generally use whatever the text in the Bible says or use Lord, God, Father etc... when addressing him. He is not some far off, legalistic, scary person-- he is a loving and caring Father that saved me from the JWs lies- so I love him Yes, all those things you listed are names Similar to how Yahweh is "I Am" from Exodus 3. Was a JW, now a christian.
It's for discussion on anything JW so I guess anyone with experience with the JWs can discuss right? That also means the bad experiences too. I personally had no 'bad experience' with them until I had already become a christian instead of JW. I hold no hard feelings but have studied the Bible extensively and feel for them.
