never was a jw, but been here long enough to have made some friends and respect opinions.. retired in 2004, lived in cyprus 2005-2010. back here in wales since then.. just back from a holiday in france (most recent of many).

love the country, the lifestyle, can get by in the language.. just seen an advert for a country estate (british-owned) they want someone to live on site, do a bit of handyman stuff, etc., look after (mainly brit) holiday visitors in return for zero rent (only utitlties).

family would be abe to come and stay for free.

Oh yes and saying the french are happier and healthier than American? It's not saying much.

Flying High Now - your Dr makes me laugh! I'm guessing he never lived there! Don't you know that a favorite pasttime in France is to complain. And if there is nothing to complain about (as usually is the case) then something will be invented to complain about!

But they do it with such flair. It's their culture to complain. It makes them happy.

How much time/ money do you spend to look nice?

haircut, cosmetics, perfume/ aftershave, clothes, botox, surgery, tan, cutting nails, feeding the body, showering.

Shower. Moisturizer. A little facial make up somedays. Herbal soak and self pedicure once or twice per month. Wash and wear hair, pulled into a clip or ponytailer. I'm fortunate that even at 55, I still don't have to do a lot.

Living corpse? A term I definitely do not apply to myself.

I'll add. I am still a bit of free spirited, barefoot earth child. I am vain sometimes and not vain other times. I prefer pretty casual clothing over formal, but will do formal if I need to. I like pretty shoes, as long as they are on other people. Very understated, simple jewelry on occasion.

Oh yes and brush and floss.

My grandson tells me I don't dress like my personality. He says I have bigger than life personality and I should dress flamboyantly. I told him that I prefer sutble. He still doesn't get it.

I'm posting what I said--again-- because of the cherry picking that has gone on with it. Read the whole quote instead of lifting out part of it, so as to misrepresent what I have said.

In my view, atheism isn't a problem. The only time I have any issue with atheists is when they try to pressure others to be atheists. We all walk a different journey. We have to make our own minds up. Living peacefully together, working together, is paramount. I have more problems with dangerous things done in the name of religion, than I do with atheism. When either atheists or religionists step on each others' backs, it's a problem. I'd rather see unethical or dangerous things addressed individually, than to see blanket condemnation of either religion or science. I'd also like to see the myths about both discovered and understood accurately.

I like how you skipped right over the pink highlight there. I have much bigger issues with dangerous things done in the name of religion than I have with atheism.

Do athiests at times pressure others to be atheists? Yes they do. It's kind of like Christian evangelizing, only it's atheists doing the evangelizing. I don't like to see either religionists or atheists stuffing their views down everyone's throats.

I don't see atheism as a problem. Whatever you believe or don't believe is not a problem. To each his own. I'm a universalist.

As long as you're not badgering agnostics, deists and theists, beating them over the head with your atheism, there's no issue with you. It's interesting to hear you talking about your views, just as long as you're not trying to pressure everyone to adopt those views. And if you think you don't do it, there are many, many threads on JWN in which you do it.

Yes, sadly they do. It happens here on JWN. It's bewildering, until you see that the atheists doing this used to be JWs.

Interesting, I've known a lot of atheists including my best friend and have never been pressured to be atheist.

That's a good thing, no? I wish I could say the same.

Pressure isn't equal to coercion.
