It's 48 and cloudy. That will do. It's like a lot better than 36 and raining. We had that happen last week. Dark chocolate would help turn the feeling, though. Or St. John's Wort, if you have it.

Is Modern Marriage Unscriptual?
by wearewatchingyouman inso as far as we know jesus was never married.
i've often wondered why this was.
was it because of a personal belief?

My therapist told me that marriage originally was a contract between a man and woman to come together to have and raise children. She said it was not considered a forever thing. She's a Dominican Catholic nun, in addition to being an engineer and doctor of psychology. She's also very learned in the history institutions like marriage. Marriage has evolved over time.

I remember when I lived in SE Lousiana as a child, many Easter Egg hunts were held in the rain or inside our church parish house, due to the rain.
Up here, we are numb from our winter weather and snow. I can sympathize.

I think that is what makes people resist Atheism.
As if atheism is something that has to be resisted.

Huge Rise In US Religious Disaffiliation
by metatron inhttp://www.technologyreview.com/view/526111/how-the-internet-is-taking-away-americas-religion/.
an interesting analysis of the view that the internet is killing off religious affiliation.
at any rate, the trend is there, whatever the cause.. .

My take on this is that people who were children of the 70s and on didn't take their kids to church. Then those kids grew up and didn't take their kids to church. My daughter didn't take her children. I know a lot of people who simply never did go to church. It seems more a product of modern times when church stopped being the center for activity in any given town.

Elderettes
by snowbird ini lol whenever i run across this term because it aptly describes the elders' wives i've known.. bossy and domineering for the most part, they delighted in being the alpha females and watched jealously to see if any other female received undue attention from the body of elders.. i remember one who told me that my dress was too short, another said i was spoiling my daughter, and yet another wanted to know from where i was buying her clothes!.
too much!.
lol.. sylvia.

I did know one elder's wife who seemed cold and unfriendly, but I figured out later that she had social anxiety. It was hard for her to be outgoing.

I think I was lucky. I never knew any bossy elder's wives. They were always nice. I did know bossy, busybody sisters though. My sister was one of them. I went to 5 congregations. Really, only one of the congregations I went to had a problem elder or two. It was more the extremely warped work ethic that the literature writers, and whoever it was that was directing them, encouraged that caused problems. They encouraged a pharisee type attitude in those who were susceptible. Those turned around and made everyone else miserable.

I have become a fan of Russell Brand. I love witty, intellectual humor. I don't mean his movies. I am talking his appearances on Conan O Brien and youtube stand up. He can get a little spazzy, but he is much more intellectual than say Jim Carrey or Robin Williams.

( someone , maybe not you but someone is paying for this.)
Who pays when uninsured people use the emergency room for medical care and the bill is hundreds of dollars? What if they are admitted and need surgery and the bills run into the many thousands of dollars? Isn't it less expensive to use preventive care and to screen regularly, catch things early? Our republican governor fought hard to get expanded medicaid passed in our state, because as a former business man, even he could see how much more cost effective it is to insure people and give them timely medical care.
Who loses when a giant percentage of uninsured American's are sick? We all do. All of us pay taxes. Whether it is city, county, property, taxes on particular products, car tags and so on. We might as well let some of the taxes we pay ensure that all Americans can afford healthcare.
Millions of Americans are upset because millions of us want everyone covered with affordable health insurance and healthcare?
Are we a nation of cold hearted barbarians? What neighbors, friends and family members are expendible, so we can pay a few dollars less in taxes?
I'll gladly give out of every single paycheck I ever make to be sure every American is covered.
