Jehovah’s Witnesses Recognize That People Have the Right to Change Religions, Just Not Their Religion
by Watchtower-Free inby alexandra james.
http://jwvictims.org/2015/05/17/jehovahs-witnesses-recognize-that-people-have-the-right-to-change-religions-just-not-their-religion/.
jehovahs witnesses say that people have the right to change religions and that they deserve respect when it comes to that right, but this is not something that they offer to those who leave their religion.

If They Stopped Shunning Tomorrow?
by cofty inimagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

In the late 70's, the WT brought out an article that considerably softened their stance on disfellowshipping. My parents duly softened their stance towards me, and, as Cofty suggested, I treated them as though they were an auntie and uncle, except that they knew that I regarded them as being slightly potty. However, I still totally shunned other JW's. After all, I reasoned that I was due for an apology!
A couple of years down the line, the WT re-affirmed their previous hard line, but this time my parents didn't go along with it, doubtless because they knew I would quote the soft WT article back to them. They wouldn't have wanted that!
Later, when my father died, my DF'd brother and my DF'd self took care of momma's financial arrangements and we would call in to se her on frequent occasions. She struggled sometimes when JW's were present on our visits, but as my bro firmly told her, they were her rules that were causing the problem, not ours.

I understand that the word "gullible"has been removed from the dictionary due to a new political correctness policy. -

Tsarnaev guilty - should he get death or not?
by Simon ini think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.
he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.
many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

My concern about the death penalty centres around what such a deliberate act being lawful does to humankind in general. Of course, if it's our own nearest and earest who have been hurt, then we will crave for vengeance. But I believe that the law has to rise above the desire for vengeance if it's to be impartial. If you give a country licence to kill it's own citizens, that is the moment that country's entire penal system goes down Draconian road. -

Secret disfellowshipping
by disillusioned 2 ini always thought it was ridiculous that when a person was disfellowshipped they didn't tell us why.
everybody would speculate, but we wouldn't know the real reason.
also i thought they were only supposed to be disfellowshipped if they weren't repentant and wouldn't stop doing the wrong thing.

The 4 Scriptural steps required before anyone should be considered an outsider: Note that the congregation is ALWAYS involved before this step is taken, so the congregation would know the reason why someone is to be disciplined:
Step 1: "Moreover, if your brother commits a sin, go lay bare his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
Step 2: But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two more, in order that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be established.
Step 3: If he does not listen to them, speak to the congregation.
Step 4: If he does not listen even to the congregation, let him be to you just as a man of the nations and as a tax collector."

I expect there'll be a series of "special talks" where the new building will be revealed to be there to be used as a headquarters / distribution centre after armageddon. It'll probably include extra large perches for the vultures.. -

so this guy went into a bar------
by stan livedeath inso this fella went into a pub and said to another guy sat at the bar: "i think jehovah's witnesses are all assholes!
" to which the guy sat at the bar replied: "i resent that remark.
" so the fella said "oh, i'm sorry, i didn't realise that you were a jehovah's witness".

So this fella went up to heaven after he died and got shown around by Saint Peter.
As they were walking around seeing the sights, they came across this enormous football stadium. As they got closer, Saint Peter looked at the newbie, put his finger to his lips and said: "Shhhhhhh!"
"Why?" said the new fella, "What's the problem?"
"Ah, said Saint Peter, "There's 144,000 Jehovah's witnesses in there and they think that they're the only ones up here!"

Nothing Says, "I Love You!" Like Institutionalized Shunning!

It's abysmal. Especially the pic shown in the link:
http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/ws20150515/disfellowshipping-a-loving-provision/
Note how the WT attempts to misquote the parable of the prodigal son. The WT states:
>>>Jesus used an illustration of a young man who left his father’s home and spent all his inheritance living an immoral life. The young man eventually realized that life away from his father’s home had no meaning. So he repented and decided to go back to his family. The father was very happy when he saw that his son had changed his attitude, and he welcomed him home. (Luke 15:11-24)<<<
Of course this is nonsense. A careful reading of the Scripture shows that the father ran to meet his son when he saw him in the distance, long before the son had had a chance to speak with his father. Nowhere does the Scripture say that the father only welcomed his son AFTER he saw that he had changed his attitude! Even the witness Bible affirms this: "While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him and was moved with pity, and he ran and embraced him and tenderly kissed him".
Once again the WT attempts to re-write history and con it's adherents in the process.
