Just curious ...do the dubbies need to obtain permission from their local council before siting their carts? We've had one for a while in my local town centre. It's always in the same spot and manned by 3 people. I know that they never approach passers by - is this part of the deal also?

'Jehovah's Witnesses' Label Added to Trolley
by cofty inyesterday i noticed on four trolleys i passed (and had a long useful conversation at one but more on that later) they had added a label identifying themselves as jehovah's witnesses.
it was just a simple printed piece of white card stuck on next the logo.. is this a new requirement?
was it a directive from hq or i wonder if the local council require it..

Pope Benedict wanted to retire as pope. So did Francis as an archbishop, only many years earlier than most archbishops, whose normal retirement age was 75. Francis and Benedict had vastly different ideas on the way the church should go. Benedict was concerned that if Francis retired before him it would look as though Francis had retired in protest at Benedict's papacy. So he was summoned from Argentina to Rome for further discussions. The film is basically about the relationship between the 2 men and is, IMHO, well worth viewing.

Who's Happy To Go Abroad and Drive on the Other Side?
by snugglebunny ini do it most years.
being in the uk, virtually every other country nearby drives on the right.
we drive on the left.

A couple of thoughts: I do like the USA system of being able to make a right turn even when the traffic lights are red. Re roundabouts in the UK. They're simply a T junction onto a one-way street where all the traffic is approaching from the right. Plus it's also common for drivers to use their headlights to signal that they're giving you the right of way.

I do it most years. Being in the UK, virtually every other country nearby drives on the right. We drive on the left. The first time is a bit bum tweaky I guess. Motorways, autobahns and interstates are dead easy - you just follow the traffic; go with the flow. The problems that can arise are mainly on side roads or roundabouts. But, once you've gained some confidence and actually overtaken another vehicle, wow, that's progress Sometimes, coming back home after weeks abroad can be a bit disconcerting. European cars are mostly clutch and gears, not automatics, so I find I'm usually banging my hand on the door lining instead of reaching for the gear lever for the first hour or two. Of course if you're driving your own car abroad it can be a lot easier, except for the driving position not being correct. How do you find it? Have you tried it? Would you even do it?

Most of the Greek Islands are stunning. The least touristy island of any size is Kefalonia - where Captain Corelli's Mandolin was filmed. It's cheap as chips, there's a ban on buildings over 2 stories tall and they also like the British - which is quite a rarity in most of Europe. Something to do with the Royal Navy being on hand during the 1953 mega earthquake and proving to be quite useful, so I'm told. Give it a miss if you happen to be from Der Fatherland, watch the film and you'll understand.

Pray before sex just like you do for food-W62 3/15
by krismalone inthe governing body has lovingly provided instructions and reminders to couples that they should pray before having sex.
please be obedient and follow the wise counsel from the gb leaders who never stick their noses into other peoples business and are not creepy cult leaders at all....not!.
"had he not created the first human pair so that they could cohabit, planted in them an attraction for each other and then commanded them to "be fruitful and become many"?

I do recall this coming up at a meeting once. The whole place rolled up with laughter when one old dear commented: "Oh no - I don't fancy that!"

Email from JW relative/elder
by Lynnie inas much as i enjoy you and pete's company, you also know our understanding of how much we want you to be reunited with jehovah and his people.. .
we did not set the standards for what jehovah says about our associations with those who choose to not serve him.
so we will always be there for you and pete, but it is in your hands as to how we can enjoy your friendship.. .

Just recalling some dialogue with my own JW parents some years ago.
Them: "You chose to leave Jehovah's witnesses!"
Me: "I didn't choose to be raised as one!"

What Do You Think About Organized Sit Ins That Are Disruptive?
by minimus inmarches, sit ins, traffic blocking is the new normal for people to demonstrate.
they block highways, state buildings and roadways.
they may even get arrested but invariably get turned loose by the courts.. i think it’s disgraceful to demonstrate this way.

Apparently, if you feel really, really strongly about something, then it's perfectly acceptable for you to behave like a total moron and fuck up people's lives just to get your point across.
