Wt. 12-15-66: INVESTIGATING HOUSE AND HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS
One under demon attack should calmly, not in hysteria, investigate his house and household articles. In some few cases the house may be the cause of trouble and the best thing to do is move out. Some demons delight in haunting a place. So if you experience trouble shortly after moving into a house, investigate. Was the house unoccupied for a long time? Why? Did people frequently move in and out? Why? Does it have a history of being haunted? Neighbors usually know, though the seller of a house almost always keeps the fact concealed.
But if a house has a clean history, instead of moving out, investigate objects in the house. If you at one time practiced black magic, witchcraft or other form of spiritism, did you burn up all articles relating to demonism upon learning of God’s truth? Get rid of every vestige of demonism. What did the early Christians in Ephesus do? On learning true Christianity they burned up all their magic books, even though their value was an astounding 50,000 pieces of silver! (Acts 19:18, 19) It would have been exceedingly dangerous to keep such works on how to perform the magical arts; in fact, to keep any appendage of demonism is perilous. One must be absolutely free of any relics of spiritism, so as to allow the demons no beachhead.
A vital question to ask if one experiences trouble with the demons is: Have you accepted any gifts from relatives or persons who dabble in spiritism? Any kind of article from such a person can cause trouble. In some actual cases it has been a radio, a sewing machine, a pair of shoes, jewelry, a “good luck” charm, a bathrobe, a blanket, a book. One woman had her bed tipped up at night when she tried to sleep on a mattress given her by her Spiritualist mother. A young woman had a fever of 106 degrees when wearing a garment given her by a Spiritualist.
Another Christian woman kept a handbag given her by an aunt who was a fortune-teller. Using the handbag in the ministry, she experienced powerful thoughts of “Go home!” Bad thoughts rushed into her mind almost audibly, all of them anti-kingdom. She could not understand herself, as these negative thoughts entered her mind as if by telephone, so that she complained of “hearing herself think.” Only after getting rid of the handbag did she get relief.
Sometimes keeping a letter from a spiritistic relative has brought trouble. Some persons have reported gaining relief by burning letters from relatives who dabble in spiritism. Even if an article from a spiritist is an expensive one, is keeping it worth the danger? One woman was tormented for years by the demons; finally she got rid of many household effects that came from a spiritistic relative. “The material loss,” she wrote, “was worth the peaceful calm that came over our house and family.”
That objects from spiritists are implicated is clearly evident because relief almost invariably follows getting rid of them. The principle is similar to that used in sorcery, in which the demonist wishing to cast a spell will transfer an object into the possession of the intended victim.
However, sometimes objects through which demons make contact resist burning, indicating demonic anger at efforts to destroy them. Some persons have found it difficult to burn up ouija boards or books on occultism. Others have reported experiences similar to that of the woman who had much distress at home after wearing a dress originally belonging to a witch. Learning of the source of trouble, she set out to burn it. “We poured gasoline on it, so it would burn quickly; but what amazed us very much was the fact that the dress did not want to burn.” Persist in your efforts to get rid of suspicious objects and relief in some measure usually follows.I think I must have been under frequent demon attacks. Every time I went out in the ministry, I always experienced powerful thoughts of "Go home!"

Which arm and eye did Admiral Nelson lose? Take heed WT Society.
by Esse quam videri inalexander korda produced and directed the movie 'that hamilton woman' in 1941. the lead parts were played by lawrence olivier as admiral horatio nelson and his wife vivien leigh played lady hamilton.
one day, onstage, korda found olivier only half dressed for his part as nelson.

I have a parrot named Nelson. He's very unusual in that he is right-footed. Parrots are the only birds that can hold their food in their foot whilst they eat. Most are left-footed.
I found that out in just a few seconds using Google.
BTW, he doesn't sing Kingdom melodies but he can whistle his way through the National Emblem march.
Which, BTW wasn't written by Sousa.
How about that?

If They Stopped Shunning Tomorrow?
by cofty inimagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

The hard part comes when close relatives leave the religion some years after your own departure. When they start communicationg again with you, it's similar to talking to a child. The naivety and programming are evident for many years and they sure ain't no fun to be with! -

Jehovah’s Witnesses Recognize That People Have the Right to Change Religions, Just Not Their Religion

jehovahs witnesses say that people have the right to change religions and that they deserve respect when it comes to that right, but this is not something that they offer to those who leave their religion.

In the late 70's, the WT brought out an article that considerably softened their stance on disfellowshipping. My parents duly softened their stance towards me, and, as Cofty suggested, I treated them as though they were an auntie and uncle, except that they knew that I regarded them as being slightly potty. However, I still totally shunned other JW's. After all, I reasoned that I was due for an apology!
A couple of years down the line, the WT re-affirmed their previous hard line, but this time my parents didn't go along with it, doubtless because they knew I would quote the soft WT article back to them. They wouldn't have wanted that!
Later, when my father died, my DF'd brother and my DF'd self took care of momma's financial arrangements and we would call in to se her on frequent occasions. She struggled sometimes when JW's were present on our visits, but as my bro firmly told her, they were her rules that were causing the problem, not ours.

Tsarnaev guilty - should he get death or not?
by Simon ini think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.
he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.
many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

My concern about the death penalty centres around what such a deliberate act being lawful does to humankind in general. Of course, if it's our own nearest and earest who have been hurt, then we will crave for vengeance. But I believe that the law has to rise above the desire for vengeance if it's to be impartial. If you give a country licence to kill it's own citizens, that is the moment that country's entire penal system goes down Draconian road. -

Secret disfellowshipping
by disillusioned 2 ini always thought it was ridiculous that when a person was disfellowshipped they didn't tell us why.
everybody would speculate, but we wouldn't know the real reason.
also i thought they were only supposed to be disfellowshipped if they weren't repentant and wouldn't stop doing the wrong thing.

The 4 Scriptural steps required before anyone should be considered an outsider: Note that the congregation is ALWAYS involved before this step is taken, so the congregation would know the reason why someone is to be disciplined:
Step 1: "Moreover, if your brother commits a sin, go lay bare his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
Step 2: But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two more, in order that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be established.
Step 3: If he does not listen to them, speak to the congregation.
Step 4: If he does not listen even to the congregation, let him be to you just as a man of the nations and as a tax collector."
