For 8 years I worked exclusively with nothing but JW's all day long 5 days a week. And then I had meetings and field service also in the evenings and on the weekends. My in laws were all witnesses. It was rare I ever encountered a normal person. It drove me NUTS! One of the reasons I left the borg. I almost went crazy. It was at that time I realized if I had to endure an eternity of that, then I would just kill myself.

Mental Disorders among JW's
by Blackfalcon98 inhi everyone, im begining to notice patterns of mental issues in the congregations and among the witnesses as a group.
do you think this is a trend in the entire world or is it exagerated in this organization?.

I once told someone that if I heard another witness claim to have bi-polar that I would go off on them. I think that what they were really saying was, "I'm tired. I can't deal with this anymore. I want to be left alone. I'm trying to make sense of everything, maybe I need help". They are told constantly that the world is an evil place, everything is temporary, nothing we do is good enough, shun, hate, be prepared to let your kids die or be prepared to shun them too, the congregation is a haven of love, what? you don't believe that, then you are crazy! I realized after waking up that witnesses also have no sense of reality, they live in a matirx of fantasy.

I remember when I was much younger babysitting a little witness kid, I think he was around 4 or 5. Like an idiot without thinking, I let him watch Wonder Woman not thinking anything of it at all or maybe that he would like it. After it was over, he ran to the bedroom. When I went to check on him I found him sobbing hysterically and praying to Jehovah to protect him from Satan and the demons. He was really terrified! It took a long time to calm him down. Of course, that was the first thing he told his parents about when they picked him up. Not a good scene and they never talked to me again. I couldn't help thinking what his life at home must be like.
Anytime anyone ever talked about being affected by demons, I never looked at them the same way again. They lost all credibility in my eyes. I know for a fact JW's are nuts. I never saw or heard or felt anything that could be construed as demon activity and if they are real then I would have definitely been possesed by the devil himself with the things I have done.

I Was Asked To Perform A Marriage Ceremony But Don't Know I'm Qualified
by minimus inmy girlfriend's daughter and her fiancee asked me to marry them last night.
they live in connecticut and will be married in new york.
i felt honored that i was asked but i don't think i can do it because i am not a clergyman or minister and my u derstanding is that only clergy or judges and lawyers and justice of the peace can perform a wedding ceremony and marry a couple.. does anyone have any information on this subject?

I was aked by my neice to give the marriage talk for them for their wedding. We did exhaustive research on the subject regarding the borg's stance on it. Even tho I wasn't a servant or elder, I was allowed to give the talk but an elder had to do the actual vows. Before you could blink, the elders were at my house to shut the the whole notion down that I should be involved. Their reasoning was that it set a bad precedence. Bulls*&%!

Be Honest: Were You Ever Jealous When Someone Was Appointed a Pioneer, MS or Elder?
by minimus ini knew some that were very happy for you and others, along with their families, that were envious of someone's advancement.. .

Never jealous. I never wanted any position, I hated even doing mikes. Thought I'd go for it once tho and did everything I was supposed to. No results. I was contemptuous of elder's sons who were always ministerial servants. I knew the only reason they were was because of nepotism. It was all a joke.

Sub-thread of Yondaime - I'm going to read on Sunday :p
by LogCon innot to take away from yondaime's thread but i just wanted to ask about personal experiences regarding the congregation meetings.. when i was young, [about 10] in the early sixties one brother in our hall used to read the watchtower about once every two months.
back then they were not too particular about who they got.
if he was baptized, he would read.. this brother was a terrible reader, he obviously would never prepare and when he came to a word he could not pronounce he simply said, ...' wheelbarrow'.. of course the kids in the hall looked eagerly for the time br.

1976 I think. It was a Sunday talk out of the Youth book (teh red one). It was a talk on masturbation. I can remember the brother's words exactly. " Have you ever rubbed your genitals to the point of producing an emission of "Serum"?, and he kept using that word "serum" instead of "semen". There were obvious giggles from the audience and not just the young ones. He was not a very good reader and I felt bad for him. I think he knew his talk was a bomb.

TV.JW.Org - WTF is Wrong With This Guy? - CAPTION THEM
by passwordprotected ini've heard about his bombastic, overly patronising, cartoon-ish delivery before, but i'd never actually seen it...until now.
and i should add, this religion bears little to no relation to the one i left 6 years ago.. .

I doubt if anything will be said on here that would be on the fly or spontaneous. It's obvious every word is scripted and rehearsed.
It's so apparent that it's a careful and dileberate attempt to inculcate and brainwash. It's very creepy.

Why I hate Tuesdays
by kneehighmiah inall throughout my life tuesdays were my meeting nights.

Our ministry school was on Thursday nights. I hated the whole day because I knew my evening would be stolen and ruined. I would rush home from work, rush to get ready, rush to the hall, and sit there bored as hell all night. And what really pissed me off was having to wait for my wife who just had to talk to each and every person for over an hour. I finally had to put my foot down and tell her she could stay for 20 minutes after the meeting and then we were gone. The only thing that made it halfway bearable was anticipating the whole bottle of Chardonnay I would treat myself with afterwards.

poll, why would you hide it your buisness/job
by sowhatnow inhow many people on here who were or are jws, owned or ran a buisness who would not willingly let people at the k hall know, maybe to avoid feeling like you had to give your fellow brothers and sisters a discount, or free help, or out of fear of being judged.
did you only help out the pioneers?
and not the poor ones?
-

I would never ever treat them any differently than a regular customer. That means no discounts. And definitely get cash up front. JW's are the worst at ripping people off. They always expect something for nothing.

Just interested in experiences any of you have had working for other witnesses or companies owned by witnesses. I heard mutterings occassionally from other witnesses they would never work for another witness. I myself worked for almost 10 years for a witness owned company. After moving to another state, I was having trouble finding a job in my area of expertise right away so I took a job as a part time delivery driver for a witness owned company. Regardless of anything I said, the owner was adamant in his refusal to believe I had ever done anything more than being a delivery driver. It took me a while to convince him otherwise and I slowly started moving into other departments full time.
I decided to work with this job as much as I could as no other job prospects were coming my way. After 3 years of pretty much no advancement, I had noticed in that time that the owner favored anyone who had a position in the congregation, I was just a lowly rank and file member. More than just a few times, he would hire ones that were other elders or circuit overseers, etc and move them into positions over me. Their only job experience it seems he needed was purely their position in the organization. There was one retired circuit overseer he hired to become assistant manager. That was the last straw and I let the owner know. This new guy was about the most arrogant, self-entitled person I ever met. He made no bones about the fact he was in charge now. I stood my ground and I guess the owner respected me for it as he made us co-managers. I found out later he was only humouring me.
I got in so many fights with this other guy, he was a real arsehole. He made a lot of enemies. Also every single person that ever worked there was driven to leave because it was so miserable working there. By the time I left, I was the only original worker there. There was a district overseer that was hired as general manager over me (I didn't really care as he really was much more qualified) and as soon as he took over, they fired several people to make room for several members of his very theocratic family. There was a constant drama going on all the time regarding problems between the owner, managers and workers. I eventually moved up to the front office as a department manager. The owner was related to a local circuit overseer who often came in. He was very effective in ignoring me and other lowly rank and file members and would only talk to the owner and manager or others who had positions. His wife once pointed out to me that she thought only elders or ministerial servants worked in the front office.
When I knew I was going to be disfellowshipped, I talked to the owner and told him if he thought about firing me, he should think about how that would affect my wife and son not just me. He promised there was nothing he would do and knew he couldn't legally even if he wanted. Even before it was announced, I walked into the office one morning with my usual "Good Morning". I got no response and obviously the shunning had started. It was hell going into work everyday and being TOTALLY ignored. I remember there were only two people who would say good morning to me or talk to me even if it was just regarding work. They had been through the same thing before at a point. Well once it was official the owner and manager made up some bogus reason to let me go, I did get a fair severance and had to sign off to get it stating I wouldn't try to sue them. I was told to wait outside while they got my last check together.
My severance check would be ready the next day and I was to text them before I got there so they could meet me outside to give it to me. Guess I was contagious. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else had any good experiences to relate.
