The inner workings at Bethel in the 70's
by Sour Grapes inwhile doing some research, i stumbled upon a blog written by a former bethelite.
his name is john bechtel.
the blog is several years old.

SourGrapes: Just a thought from the blog. If the Governing Body voted to make a collective decision, why would God inspire them to have differences in opinion?
Geez, man...didnja learn the WT lessons? When "god" does something unexplained or downright plain wrong...he isn't "god" anymore...he is Satan.
Satan is da bad one...he is the one who f**ks things up, not "God".

Londo: Wow...money down the toilet.
I dunno where the money went. The WTS would have to qualify for the funds somehow - grant funding is usually for a specific project.
But...the film "Knocking" was released in 2006, and one of the major sources of funding for that "independent" (*snicker*) film was the New York Community Trust.
Major funding provided by
Walter Zaremba
Gunther Reibling
New York Community TrustHeh...NYCT is listed right after two JW names - Zaremba And Reibling.

Why the Deficit at the Circuit Assembly?
by JT-LadyC inhave you ever wondered why there is always a deficit at the circuit assembly?
did you realize that before the program begins, the circuit is already in the red?
many of the friends thought they were paying for the use of the building and covering the costs of the utilities, etc.
-
OrphanCrow
Sometimes, the costs have already been covered by city and government grants that the WTS has received before the assembly has even started.

3. For decades, each and every year, the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY has held as many as 400 "District Conventions" (recently renamed "Regional Conventions") across the United States. Unknown to rank-and-file Jehovah's Witnesses is the FACT that the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY has long solicited FINANCIAL SPONSORSHIP of not only these 400 District/Regional Conventions, but also the thousands of smaller Circuit Assemblies, from the local City and County GOVERNMENTS, and their affiliated agencies, which host such conventions.
The WATCHTOWER SOCIETY has collected what has probably amounted to TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS over the decades. For example, just from 2007 through 2015, the CITY OF RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA and two affiliated governmental agencies have given the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY more than $2,000,000.00 in exchange for the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY agreeing to hold only two of the 400 annual "District Conventions" in Raleigh.
Jehovah's Witnesses attending District Conventions and Circuit Assemblies are/were never told of the GOVERNMENT SPONSORSHIP, much less the amount of the financial subsidies. Instead, Convention and Assembly attendees are told that the expenses of the Convention or Assembly must be met solely from their own voluntary contributions.
During the 1980s and 1990s, every January, the WatchTower Society even required "District Convention" attendees to purchase "parking passes" for the upcoming summer conventions. The THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS from the advance sale of those "parking passes" alone oftentimes was triple or quadruple what the WatchTower Society had paid for the rental of the convention venue.
Despite the fact that the WatchTower Society had already made a HUGE PROFIT before Convention attendees even arrived onsite, the "Accounts Reports" read repeatedly during the Conventions and Assemblies almost always reported a large "deficit" -- prompting an admonition that attendees needed to up their donations to cover Convention/Assembly expenses.

Who Picks The Governing Body?
by millie210 inhey everyone,.
just a simple straight forward question on exactly what the process is.
if a gb member died tomorrow, do the remaining ones choose who gets to be next?.
-

millie: LOL at Orphans post!
actually I could use some of that about right now.............Geez, Millie, I was like - I got this one! I got this one!
Hand waving in the air....
Besides, from what I have read about those Crooklyn Boys, The Holy Spirit burns inside them on a regular basis. They consume the 'firewater' liberally, so I have been told.

steve: The procedure you mention in your OP, OrphanCrow, involves the reuse of the patient's own blood "lost" during the operation.
Doesn't the organization forrbid this type of procedure on grounds that once blood leaves the body it is not to be transfused back, as in autologous blood transfusions?Ilove is correct - both hemodilution and cell saver procedures are 'allowed' with the approval of the Watchtower Society.
Contradictory? Of course it is. Over time the Society put caveats on the procedures, but both of the procedures had been done (without those caveats) on Jehovah's Witnesses for decades before the WTS came out with their "rules" around accepting both procedures.
In 1982, the WT said that hemodilution was objectionable.
In 1989, the WT alluded that scavenging techniques were allowed.
It wasn't until 1995 that the WT actually came right out and gave approval for hemodilution and the cell saver.
Here is the problem - a HUGE problem. The Watchtower was fully aware of the procedures that were being tried out on Jehovah's Witnesses in the operating theater.
Hemodilution techniques had been used on JWs since at least 1963. And the WT knew it was. That is the procedure that the WT hero of the time, Denton Cooley, utilized in cardiac surgery on JWs, including children and infants. And the WT knew - once Cooley was successful in operating on JWs, the WT goons promoted the use of hemodilution and cell savers on JWs when they approached medical doctors with their threats of "do it our way or we will see you in court".
The HLC was formally set up in the States in the early 80s but it had been piloted in Canada beginning around 1970. The JWs involved in arranging surgical procedures, for the unwitting JW patients, were fully aware of the procedures that they were pressuring the medical profession to perform. And those procedures included both the cell saver and hemodilution.
Literally hundreds and hundreds of JWs had those procedures done to them long before the WT came out with an "official" position on them. Decades, in fact. You can find many of them in medical journals - here is one of Denton Cooley's brag books:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC341795/pdf/thij00001-0060.pdf
Of course, once the bloodless world was beginning to be saturated with JWs themselves, it became apparent that there were problems with how some of these autologous blood transfusions were being done. So, by the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s, JW medical professionals themselves became involved in the picture and that is when the caveats got put in place around the procedures to make it seem like the JWs were meticulous about following Biblical direction.
"Continuous flow" became the catch phrase for both autologous procedures.
diogenesister: Orphan Crow my blood pressure rises every time I read one of your posts....but I'm grateful all the same.
Yes, this material is difficult to process. The duplicate world of WT blood policy doesn't just make blood pressure rise, it also makes a person's head spin. It is crazy making stuff.
And UndertheRadar....no....I wouldn't buy a used car from Mr. Columbus. And I certainly wouldn't let him make my medical decisions for me.
Just the fact that so many of the JW men who are involved in promoting bloodless medicine are salesmen and not medical professionals should be telling all on its own.
What other branch of medicine requires so much hard sell? Why would effective health care procedures need to be promoted/sold?

Ilove: OrphanCrow, what is your take on Aryeh Shander?
Shander, huh?
Lol! I would say he is president of the Jonadab class.
Seriously, Shander is the 'hero' of bloodless medicine. He is the one who co-authors the textbooks for blood management and promotes blood management all over the world. And the one who steps up to the plate whenever the JWs need an "expert" to be their muscle in court. He is like the "cult leader" for the bloodless cult.
He looks good, he does his job well, he is a great spokesperson for bloodless surgery/blood management/bloodless medicine...AKA Transfusion Free medicine.
That is the new "catch phrase" of the bloodless world - transfusion free. Which, of course, is another one of those loaded and misleading terms that has become part of the bloodless repertoire.
Bloodless surgery is not transfusion free. A patients own blood is transfused back into them - it is how hemodilution works - a large portion of your blood is drained out and replaced with synthetic fluids. After the surgery is finished, your blood is transfused back into you. The same with cell savers - your blood is sucked up and put through a filtration system (fat cells and bone chips removed...handy, huh?) and then all that squeaky clean blood is transfused back into you.
steve2:
There's got to be $$$$$$$$$$$ in bloodless surgery otherwise its provision would shrivel and no qualified medical practitioner would want to use it.Oh yes. There is $$$$$ in bloodless surgery. Biotechnology does not come cheap - it is one of the most volatile markets that an investor can play in.
Artificial blood is considered the Holy Grail of the blood industry. If effective artificial blood could ever be developed, it would be incredibly valuable to military and to areas where blood has been tainted. Which, of course, is what is happening right now - Africa is a huge market for Hemopure. The WT thought they had the tiger by the tail with that one - they offered the JWs to the US Army to test Hemopure.
The Jehovah's Witnesses were to be the testers for Hemopure, and they still are the ones who push it to market. That is what the FDA compassionate use does. Never mind that the side effects and risks of artificial blood exceed that of "real" blood....of course that is never told to the poor unwitting JW sheep that are purposely led to the slaughter.
The goal of bloodless medicine is to create technology that will theoretically allow a person to "live forever". Sound familiar? And that technology costs money. Big money.
Haemonetics, the company that manufactures the cell saver, went from being this tiny little company back in early 70s, making a little machine that could harvest stem cells - to accommodate that wonderful breakthrough when stem cells were discovered in '68 (those Canadians, eh?). A handy little side job that those cell harvesters were able to do was....keep the odd Jehovah's Witness or two alive. Cell savers were also valuable for large blood loss surgery - ortho and heart surgeons adopted the use of them readily back in the 70s to reduce the amount of blood needed.
Haemonetics, formed when Baxter bought out American Hospital Supply, first promoted their cell saver machine by giving hospitals the machine to use. And so the company grew and they developed all sorts of modifications for their cell savers - filtration systems, etc....and new little machines for sucking up blood. And now, they have a big chunk of the global market for blood collection devices. Their products are used all over the world.
Oh yeah. There is money in bloodless surgery and such. What is rather humorous is the way that the bloodless world, in the late 80s and into the 90s, had $tar$ in their eyes and all of them were saying "this is the way of the future! Bloodless surgery will be the golden standard of care for the entire world!"
But instead...the world did not embrace the bloodless mantra, the holy grail failed when the FDA strangled the clinical trials, and the bloodless world had to re-group. Blood management became the golden ticket and they have been milking that cow ever since.
