I remember this quote being directed at "false religion" only. Every time a church closed or a religion had a problem they would dig out this line from the bible.

i wonder how many readers of the watchtower have noticed the seeming inconsistency of the 144,000 teaching in the april 1st issue?.
after discussing the symbolic nature of the numbers 666 on the wild beast comes this statement:.
"immediately after disclosing the number 666, revelation mentions 144,000 followers of the lamb, jesus christ, who have his name and the name of his father, jehovah, written on their foreheads.".
I was told the teachings are not important, truth is not important, unity is the important thing.

In my part of Canada they would NEVER think of cancelling a meeting because of the weather. I have had my wife...in the middle of a blizzard with wind chill of 30+ waiting by the phone for a call from the elders to cancel. If it did not happen out she would go no matter what the weather. Mind control in the extreme.She could not and will not think for herself.This is the type of persons they need to keep their CULT alive.

Before the last major failure of WT predictions....The 1975 fiasco the Truth book was published. In it people were urged to examine their religions to see if they meet the standard of truth. This included your own religion the JW's.

my uncle called for my dad and wanted to know why he stopped attending meetings, he then asked me what hall im attending.
first i told him my dad could only answer why he does what he does and then i told him i had difficulty with alot of teachings that are curious.
after talking for awhile i asked him why if the magazines are a tool for bible understanding then why is it that so many take it as bible truth?

This is already a giant leap forward.When ever I raised the question of if the org had ever been WRONG I always got the stock answer from both my Father and Father in law.The answer was "new light"It took almost a half hour before I ever got my Dad to confess.Yes indeed the WT got it wrong a LOT. Of course being only imperfect men blah...blah ...blah What a joke. They are still playing this card and the gullible are still falling for the same old story.
although i am inactive, my mother is a pioneer and extremely loyal to her faith.
next year she and my father will celebrate 45 years together, and since they only had a small civil wedding, i though it would be nice to give them an anniversary party including renewal of their wedding vows.
i mentioned this to my wife and she thought that she was told that jw's do not believe in this practice.
it would not be fitting to use the Kingdom Hall for a "second wedding" to "renew" those vows.
For most Dubs if it is not allowed at the kingdom hall then it must be that jehovah doesn't approve.Rather than think for themselves "GOOD JW'S" will just contine to let New York think for them.
i can still remember when i first posted all those years ago.
i was still an active jw but was drawn to the amazing conversations (and fights) on jwd.
h2o was dwindling and the refugees were coming here.

a watchtower spokesman told the brooklyn paper that it may soon be unloading some of its high end brooklyn heights real estate.they recently sold off a hulking 12 story building at 360 furman st.for $200 million.they own some 29 properties ranging from brownstones to apartment buildings.if these buildings did convert , it would be a tremendous boon to the real estate business in brooklyn heights.in the 60's brownstones went for about $60,000, now they can fetch $2 to $3 million!.

OK, OK that wasn't quite the real quote.I can however imagine the WT moving from NYC and relocating to someplace else.I know Pattison has been mentioned but I was thinking how much nicer it would be if they moved to someplace else like MAUI.
