she's just looked up her results online and found out she passed her latest open university exam.. well done love, i knew you'd do it !
again, another box to tick on the immigration forms to get a few more points ...
wow, Angharrad; well done, you clever sausage !!!
And I expect you're really looking forward to Simon letting you increase your happiness quota - he's such a 'giver' ,isn't he? you're a lucky, lucky woman...*sigh*
i was talking to my ex-girlfriend today, and we got on about the witnesses.
she refuted how much control the watchtower has over each witness, saying that the watchtower is only a guide as to what to do, everybody has to make their own mind up.
is this a general view of witnesses?
Hi Gadget.
The phrase I used to hear constantly was 'We have to think for ourselves; but the bible is there for our guidance, lets see what jehovah has to say about it'
It was used a lot, and if those kinds of phrases were repeated often enough I think they tended to be called back to your mind when ever you questioned something.
So, if you had a niggling doubt or were being told something you'd always try to fit it in to the structure of the way you though the world was. you'd try to think it out for yourself....then you'd go to the bible and see what Jehovah says' and think you'd made a rational, impartial decision.
So, no, I don't think the average witness can think for themselves because the methods they're encouraged to use to think only re-affirm the society's views.
But when you do start to question, really think and find other sources you can trust...your thought processes can start to work through any doubts.
And we're all proof of that working really well, eventually.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
this is just a thread to post your stories about people in your lives and the stupid things they've done.. my dad had this friend named jack.
the guy seemed a little nuts.
this guy nailed strips of stainless steel to the bottom of his winter boots because the soles were split down the middle.
(((((((Aw smurfy)))))) Roflmao ; are we related? lol
i'm not talking about a victory which might include welcome reforms on blood policy, shunning or the handling of abuse allegations.
what i want to know is what we would consider to be the victory.. it is unlikey in the extreme that the various corporations of the watchtower empire will ever be closed down so, realistically what can we hope for in the long term?
say 30 - 50 years?.
Realistically. I don't think there can be a great change if the practice of going door to door continues...in order to sell the magazines they need to keep a message that's radical and has a sense of urgency to it, and to keep the society viable financially they have to sell the magazines...
So the possibility for changes to the way the religion operates eg. the way it sets its self apart and the preaching work; is the very thing that needs to be changed-but can't be.
obviously, mine is a picture of me.....it was taken at a hockey game at staples center: go kings!
.
odrade has a very pretty picture and i was wondering if that was her or a character from a movie?
