The people who hire them is supposed to be the people who have aggreed to live under their rules, and opinions.Think about that.
Actually the president is sworn to uphold the constitution and the bill of rights. They aren't "hired" to give rules and opinions, and they work for us, not visa-versa.

So we'd have president by committee? Have you ever tried to get anything done in a committee? Its almost possible. Also, the reason we had three sections of government, the judicial, the executive, and the legislative was so there would be checks and balances and so that the will of the majority would not override the rights of the minority.
Well thats pretty much effectively squelched, so we'll see how it all plays out, hey?

In my family it seems to run on my dad's side too for some reason. Myself and my brother are gay (out of 7 children), one of my dad's brothers is gay, another of his brothers had a gay son (no longer living now). My dad's uncle was also gay. My sister had one of her son's commit suicide that I believe was gay (he hadn't actually told anyone he was).
So, how does my mom and her family fit into that, and like someone else said earlier, how do I fit in as a lesbian?
And to whomever said "blame it on the mom," who says having gay children is a bad thing? If I'm a gay male, a doctor, I save many lives, I'm a philantropist, I've been with my partner 27 years, how is my mom to "blame" for that?

perhaps you say the story buried deep in todays paper describing the observed mandibular tooth growth in a strain of mutant chickens.
for decades scientists have been able to coax chicken embryos into forming teeth by overlaying epidemal tissue from repiltes or mice onto the forming jaws of a chicken embryo.
the grafted tissue was not the source of the teeth but was by some unknown mechanism triggering the chickens dormant recessive tooth genes to awake.
You know I have no doubt that evolution is fact. But I really don't understand why chicken with teeth is exciting. Sometimes I feel like scientist keep on trying to prove evolution over and over and over again. I don't think there is ANYTHING they can discover that will convince someone who believes the earth was made in six silly days.

the watchtower society has mishandled rules of greek grammar and has manipulated the wording of numerous biblical passages that reveal the deity of christ.
john 1:10 - "...the world came into existence through him..." .
colossians 1:16 - "...all things have been created through him..." .
Hmmm the diety of christ is proven by the bible both the newer version and the older version. And how do we prove that the bible is anything more than a storybook to frighten the children? Circular reasonings. I believe that Jesus did exist. I even believe he may have had a few good things to say. But like other legends, he got all blown out of proportion.

many here have been able to maintain a relationship with god without the need for a set of beliefs or a creed or any organised system of worship at all.
no churches, meeting halls or study groups are necessary just a deeply held conviction in the goodness of god and the value of a personal relationship with him.. such believers often stress 'spirituality' over religion.. now i don't mean to denigrate anyone's beliefs and no offence is intended but really, is a 'spiritual' approach to life any better for our mental and emotional well-being than being part of an organised religion?
There is no such thing as "conversion" to atheism because it is not a belief system. It is the 'abandonment' of a previous belief system that one has found to be in error.
Ah the word belief... Lets play semantics here. Here's what I discovered in the dictionary. I think its all in what we understand "belief" or "believe" to mean. "Belief system" is one definition, but it is only one definition. I think you'll find atheism falls under number 2 on belief and encompasses 1 and 2 in the believe definition below. Belief: 1. The act or condition of placing trust or confidence in a person or thing (faith). 2. Mental acceptace of the truth or actuality of something (science). 3. Something believed or accepted as true, esp a tenet or set of beliefs. Believe: 1. To accept as true or real. 2. To have confidence in or trust. 3. To expect or suppose. 4. To have faith, esp religious faith. 5. To have faith or confidence (ie in doctor's ability). 6. To have confidence in the truth, value, or existence of somthing. So, I believe that athiesm is a belief in science and in the material world being all there is. This belief does also encompass the rejection of the idea of god, but it also places trust and belief in science. I'm not arguing that science isn't truth or that you should not believe in it, but just pointing out that it isn't an absence of belief as Kid tried to assert, its actually a different set of beliefs around there being no supernatural higher power, around the body dying, no afterlife, evolution, etc., etc. etc. So, when I spoke about people proselatizing (damm how is that word spelled??) I was speaking of talking them/us into abandoning a belief in a higher power based on your arguments, and then replacing those beliefs with other beliefs that you espouse, such as no higher power, such as the material universe being all there is, etc. Still another belief system. Just not in a god. And I'm still not buying! Sherry

You know I totally respect people that can have a civil conversation about it. Nic really believes this and comes at it from place of caring about others. My brother is a christian, he gets a great deal of satisfaction out of his relationship with Jesus, he gets such joy of it that he wants me to share that feeling, that joy. So he talks to me about his faith. That I can respect. We'll never agree, because I get just as much joy and satisfaction out of my path. We still love each other and we can agree to disagree.
But others come in swinging their athiesm like a sledge hammer, talking arrogantly to others because they believe differently. Do you mean that I can be an arrogant jackass too if I embrace athieism (sp?) wow, let me rethink that!
