My Life as a 'Famous' Jehovah's Witness
by united states of nothing injust let me start out by saying i am unable to give certain details of my life as i have learned very quickly this can cause a lot of problems.
i was born into the 'truth' as my mother had been studying with a few sisters on and off at a local congregation.
my father was never a jw and came in and out of my life for many years..to this day i do not give him much time.

Welcome to the board USON, good to have you here. I for one don't couldn't give a ratz azz if you are or aren't a famous person.
Tall tales were actually a staple of our country's history back in the old days, and I enjoy a good tale as much as anyone. As a matter of fact, one of the best books out there (though old) is The Power of Myth. Check it out. However, if you are indeed famous, then good for you. I'll enjoy your posts either way.
I hope some of these folks that are ripping into you will get a grip, take a breath, and realize that we don't need them to save us. But sometimes some folks need something to keep them busy. So looks like you are this week's target. Like Mulan said, if it lasts too long let a moderator know, in the meantime, enjoy your 15 more minutes of fame.

Happy Solstice to you as well! Actually it is tomorrow this year, but it doesn't really matter, pagans aren't all dogmatic usually unless they are Gardnerian Wiccan or something, lol.
I think I've always been a pagan at heart. All those long years of being JW Winter Solstice is the one thing that I have always really looked forward to. Back then I just thought that it was because the sun was up a little longer every day. And there is something about that that makes me happy even though the worst of the weather is after solstice and not before. I know that the circle comes around again, but I celebrate the re-birth of the Sun anyway.
I'll toast all of you tomorrow. Have a blessed Yule/Solstice, Christmas, Hannakka, or Festivus to the restivue.

Out Witnessing = My wife hands out our home phone number to strangers!!!
by Witness 007 indesperate to make a convert i'm amazed how witnesses behave.
like my wife we were on vacation, witnessing, we met a guy who was visiting his mother but came from our city.
after talking for a while my wife tells him which suburb we live in and leaves our home phone number telling him to call me when we get back and i can take him to the meetings.

I'm leeeeeaving, on a jet plane, la la la la la la la la
by erynw intomorrow morning, 12 hours from now, i will be on my way to disneyworld to meet the mouse in person.
i have wanted to go there ever since i was a kid and now it's happening.
i know i'm going to be 6 years old when i go through those gates.. due to my current health issue, it's going to be physically demanding for me, but i'm going to do my best to see everything i can, for as long as i can and enjoy every second of it.

At what age would you dicuss homosexuality with your children?

whilst reading this my 11 year old son was looking over my shoulder, and reading along with me, some of the discussion was quite adult but respectful .
so i began thinking what age would you discuss these things?

I do not want to discuss the details of sex with my 11y unless he asks. I do though want to teach him awareness and tolerance of people with differing life stiles..
llbh, Sorry that part of my post was not directed at you but at the comment from another poster, can't remember who, who said something about getting inot that with their child.
I think you are doing well discussing this openly with your child. Parenting is hard work. All the best to you with that.

In my experience it can be done without going into details at a young age. We told our niece that some men loved women and some men loved men, and the same was true for women, some women love men and some love women. It isn't right or wrong, it's just different.
Later in school she picked up the remarks and the jokes and the intolerance in a more conservative community and it really bothered her to hear the hateful things people said about gays and then to have two aunts she loved dearly be gay and not be at all what they joked about. We just talked her through it, she knew better because she had the reality, they had the stereotypes without having any knowledge.
As for going into details about gay sex, why in the world would you do that? I have no idea why you would think this was necessary in any way.
Every kid is different, and you really need to have a relationship with them where you can talk freely and candidly already long established way before this or other difficult subjects come up.

You know I think it's how she can rationalize cutting him off. If he just lovingly disagreed with her that would be a stupid thing, a trivial thing. But she looks for ways to pick out that he hates god and now she has the ammunition to follow the direction of the WTS.
If he believes this then that. You know, WTS are famous for that type of reasoning and she has adopted it to make herself feel righteous.
I'm sorry for the hurt your son is experiencing. And as a parent it just makes you want to reach out and shake the shit out of the one hurting your kid, even though in this case it's his own mother.
