I'm watching it out of the corner of my eye, don't want to get too excited and hopeful, but it is pretty cool. I love detachedly watching fluctuations and permutations and musing about where they can lead.

Senator Charles Grassley
by Junction-Guy inis causing quite a bit of stir on other boards (non-jw) with his investigation into 6 televangelist ministries.
it seems like the majority of people, both christian and not are behind him in some fashion.
there is a minority against it, and it is a vocal minority.

Do you condemn the Society's no-blood policy and still do not DONATE BLOOD?
by nicolaou init's your decision to make.
it would be as wrong of this community to insist everyone donate blood as it is of the cult to insist otherwise.

The U.S. doesn't want my gay blood. If I were going in for surgery, I'd have my own pre drawn and saved. I'd give blood to a family member, and accept from a family member, but not from a stranger.

We're all connected- Spiritual Atheism
by nvrgnbk inas you know, common theists believe in a literal "god" who supposedly created and rules the universe; while common atheists reject the idea of "god" altogether.. generally, spiritual atheists are people who do not believe in a literal "god" (thus the term "atheist"), but still consider themselves to be (often deeply) "spiritual" people.. for spiritual atheists, being "spiritual" generally means to have thoughts, words, and actions that are in harmony with the idea that we are all, in some way, connected - that the entire world can be thought of as one entity made up of smaller interacting entities.. therefore, spiritual atheists generally feel that as they go about their lives striving to be personally healthy and happy, they should also be striving to help the world around them be healthy and happy.
this empowering concept is referred to as "wholistic ethics".. although spiritual atheists do not believe in a literal "god"; they generally recognize "god" as an important and powerful symbol of the inter-connectedness and one-ness of the universe.
they see that, individually, everything in the universe is a part of "god"; and, collectively, everything in the universe is "god".

We should start a Church. We'll call it the "Temple of the Taoist Jedi-Spiritual Atheist"

Are There Certain Types of People That You Try To Avoid Here & Elsewhere?
by minimus inin real life i avoid people who are complaining pain in the asses.i stay away from extremely negative types.. how about you???
?.

I avoid people that have drama in their life, and then out loud, wonder why bad things happen to them, and get all emotional and worked up over it. These same people often do things that compound their real problems, take no responsibility for their actions, thoughts, or emotions. AND then, they want to get other people wrapped up and involved in their whirlpool of chaos-"Why won't sombody help me?"
Yeah, that really pushes my buttons. Also people that you can tell are starved for attention, but then act completely innapropriate; i feel sorry for them on a level, but I know that getting caught up in their crap is not worth it.
I know that some will think me insensitive, but I really don't care regarding this scenario...learing the lessons of self preservation.

The Book of Mormon: Minor edit stirs major ruckus
by Deputy Dog innew light for the mormon?.
from: http://www.sltrib.com//ci_7413508?iadid=search-www.sltrib.com-www.sltrib.com.
the book's current introduction, added by the late lds apostle bruce r. mcconkie in 1981, includes this statement: "after thousands of years, all were destroyed except the lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the american indians.

They also have a colorful history that for members has been covered up or simply ignored. My dad's family is Mormon, some are "Jack" Mormons, a few are in good standing and even wear the holy underwear.

Hi there!
by breakingfree ini have been coming to this site to read news and your stories for about a year now, but have never posted due to my mortal fear of somehow being found out... i have family in as most of you do, who are all very sincerely convinced that they are on the path of light.. i have never been happy with the beliefs, mainly the doublespeak on the status of women, the hypocrisy, the dramatisation of the smallest of matters, and the general guilt trip that was my life until i stumbled across some hard evidence that my suspicions about 'gods channel' were well founded.
unfortunately i am now addicted to turning over every piece of information i can find, there seems to be no end to the amount of $#*& below the surface.
i will probably remain in this state for awhile, hungrily devouring all the information that makes me feel validated for my stand against much of the mindless rubbish that has gone around me during my life as a jw.

Hi new girls, BreakingFree & DestructoGirl!
I am amazed a the patience shown and quiet reasoning shown by this poster:
Dagney: I am from the camp of "less is best" as regards any communication with the congregation or CO. I wasn't on JWD when I left, I didn't have my answers sorted out when I faded, and had to go on my instinct. I used personal health and circumstances, which were truthful, to successfully avoid confrontation. By laying low, it took a while for the news to reach relatives and friends which gave me the time to be sure of my decisions.
As far as the family is concerned, I've avoided all discussions of my new found truth. I put myself in their shoes and know I would defend the WBTS to the death if I was in that mindset. So I'm of the opinion that unless one is searching or questioning, it does no good. And I feel if they are questioning, they will be able to find what they need to start their journey on the "dreaded" internet.
Remember, anything you say cannot be taken back. And once it is relayed from person to person, through time, as will happen, it will not resemble anything you originally said in the first place. To my very best g/f who is in, I have said over and over to her "I have issues with the corporation, not the congregation." And she doesn't ask, and I don't tell unless I'm asked.
Very cautious approach here, but I am starting to really agree. Until someone is questioning on their own, doubting, most of what we say is going to be immediately rebuffed..............oompa....so lucky to be a like-minded couple
I agree with oompa, there is an almost Zen-like quality to this concept of "Say, Do nothing" and let things happen on their own slowly.
I agree with NOT meeting with the CO; weekend out of town trip sounds good, or some chicken soup and "cough, cough" Better yet, say you have the stomach flu and are spewing all over.
Best of wishes to you both, this is quite a ride.

Why no warnings against "fading" in the literature?
by sir82 init has been pretty firmly established that the wts monitors ex-jw discussion boards generally, this one in particular.. on this forum and others, the strategy of "fading" is often discussed.
fading can be defined as gradually lessening one's activity in the congregation to the point where he virtually "disappears", becoming inactive & attending virtually no meetings.
thus, a more or less "normal" life can be achieved without the stigma and privations of disfellowshipping.. other ideas on how to get around the pain of disfellowshipping discussed on this type of forum have been discussed, if not in the literature, at least in boe letters.

I think the term "fade" and "drift-away" are close, but there is a nuace of difference: fade is deliberate-right?, whereas drift away is sort of passive and accidental and then "oops". So, would it be good strategy to get the term "fade" out to the JW in any anti-preaching activity?

Quality personal time is good. Maybe some nice soothing aromatherapy essential oils, or even a massage, but clear that with her Dr. first. Does she have family she hasn't seen in a long time? Help her travel to see them, briefly. A day trip to a park or nearby natural place of beauty, or an art museum, or what ever her interest would be.

Throwing the Baby out with the Bathwater Goodbye Watchtower Hello Nothing?

Good thread, I wish my family could get online and read these. (They're all OUT of the borg, just on different parts of the road away from the org.)
