  Do I have to be enrolled?!!! Question

  as you all know, i'm still a jw in 'good standing' albeit labeled 'spiritually weak' because i miss many meetings and turn in the lowest service time possible each month.

  all part of the slowest 'fade' ever known.. having said that, i'm always looking for ways to minimize interaction with the jw organization.

  so, my question is..... do i really have to be enrolled in the ministerial school and give parts, or can i not be enrolled and still be considered a jw in 'good standing'???.

  I was working retail full time. Headed into the holiday season I told the School overseer that I would not be able to take any assignements until after the holiday rush. He accepted my statement, as it was not a request. Some may have whispered, but I didn't care. At the time I was helpingmy mom support my younger siblings. The elders were aware of this and so I didn't have any flack to put up with. When February rolled around, I just became very involved with work and my hooby, and was impossible to get ahold of.

  Part of my plan was to be late to meetings and wear my work uniform. Without a tie-JW dress code-I wasn't able to do closing song and prayer, carry mics, or patroll the parking lot.

  Nephew Out...Now What?

  just recently i have found out that my nephew (i'll call him r) is no longer a jw.

  my brother and sister-in-law (his parents) are still in along with there 2 other children.

  the other son married an elder's daughter a year ago and my niece is a pioneer.

  I agree with Gopher. If he took care of himself and got out, and is getting on with life, he may really like to have a talk with someone who understands his situation. It is very important to dismantle JW beliefs, looks like he may have done that, at least I hope he did.

  I believe that a very frank and open discussion with a small group of family members would be a good thing.

  Congrats to your nephew for getting out.

  Faking Terror Proposal 1962

  http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/dailynews/jointchiefs_010501.html code named operation northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of cuban emigres, sinking boats of cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a u.s. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in u.s. cities.. the plans were developed as ways to trick the american public and the international community into supporting a war to oust cuba's then new leader, communist fidel castro.. america's top military brass even contemplated causing u.s. military casualties, writing: "we could blow up a u.s. ship in guantanamo bay and blame cuba," and, "casualty lists in u.s. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation.

  the plans had the written approval of all of the joint chiefs of staff and were presented to president kennedy's defense secretary, robert mcnamara, in march 1962. but they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.. "the whole point of a democracy is to have leaders responding to the public will, and here this is the complete reverse, the military trying to trick the american people into a war that they want but that nobody else wants.

  reflecting this, the u.s. plan called for establishing prolonged military ?

  Rocks, minerals, fossils, shells. Chess boards and chess men. Cribage boards. I used to collect plants for my herb garden. Medicinals and toxic plants. I am not into collecting marketed items, but I make the exception for Coke glasses and stuff.

  If you had to choose between Truth or Happiness

  if suddenly you were confronted by someone who could grant it, and offered these two choices, which would you choose (if either).. 1.

  (truth) you can have the answers to all of your questions, know and understand the absolute truth about all things, who we are, where we came from and how it all happened, and most importantly, you will be able to comprehend why.

  the price of this insight is not cheap... you must leave behind everything you know; family, friends, pets, property, all things you value, you do not get to say goodbye and you will never see any of them again.. or.. 2.

  When a JW parent dies

  after almost 5 years i spoke with my mother yesterday.

  i wanted to know if she wanted a copy of the picture i recieved the other day.. she was nice and polite and even asked how i was (a big surprise when she asked).. but it seems she has some heart and respiratory problems.

  and that got me to thinking.. not one of her five kids is still a jw.

  • How far would you go in this situation to have things your way when a parent dies?

  In this order of importance: Wishes of deceased, wishes of offspring, then other immediate family, friends or anybody else left over.

  • As a child would you take over from the JW siblings?

  Unless specified, absolutely yes.

  • If there is a will (and I don't know if there is but there might be) would you honor her wishes for the JW infomercial and leave it at that?

  I would fullfill the intent of the will, but would also have something for non-JW family to have closure.

  • How far would you go to push through the JW siblings if they insist on the infomercial and shunning?

  If not the explicit instructions of the deceased, then no holds barred. Frock them and their puny mind set.

  • Would you fight the will if the WTS gets everything and the kids get nothing?

  Sadly, this is one battle that can not usually be won. If there is possibility of winning, then go for it. This is not a fight I'd choose just for the sake of a fight.

  • Would you fight the JW family if they had removed things from her home before you got there?

  Damn straight! This happened with my great grandmother-nonJW. I lived 2000 miles away. Extended family decended like vultures. The things of personal value that I wanted access to were gone or destroyed. I wanted to scan hundreds of very old photos, and some of her hand written recipies and notes. Now, I am not even allowed to see them.

  I am generally a peacful fellow, but this sort of thing makes my blood explode.

  anybody been following the development and release of this movie?.

  an 'r' rated jesus film, one that portrays a no holds barred depiction of the the beatings, the whippings, and the execution.

  all dialogue is in the 'original' languages (at first it wasn't supposed to be subtitled, but mel gibson finally caved in on this point.

  Why Depression Sucks.

  because you can make jokes and appear "happy" at the drop of a hat, meanwhile, you're being chewed up from the inside out.

  because you can't learn to take one day at a time because your good days are always overshadowed by knowing that you're going to just slip back down again.

  Hey Shamus.

  I have also had depresion for half my life. I will not dump sympathy on you, as that is pointless. That is not what you or I or any other depressed soul needs.

  I have also been diagnosed as bipolar, by two separate medical experts. For me, depresion isn't usually that I feel sad. It is more of an apathy towards life. I also used to seek temporary fullfillment from 'entertaining' others. At work, I would carry on almost as crazy as Robin Williams. I would get such a rush from making others laugh or feel better, but as soon as I would walk away I would feel drained and empty.

  I stopped taking all my meds almost two years ago, as they were making me very ill. That is something I do not reccomend for others.

  I also felt that even though my problem was organic-low transmitter levels-I felt that figuring my way out of depresion was more valid for me than throwing chemicals at it.

  Part of what my recovery required was a belief system overhaul. The other nessesary part for me was accepting and integrating my sexual identity.

  My beliefs and the thoughts that I have used to climb out of the pit of depression are tailored mostly for me. I could share them, but I feel that they would not be of use, and may cause harm. If I had tried my own ideas and beliefs on myself five or more years ago, I would not have been ready or receptive to them.
