That was VERY interesting, thank you. I just finished reading a book about similiar concepts. Under The Influence-The Destructive Effects of Group Dynamics, John D. Goldhammer. Winston posted a topic (or a reply?) about this book about a month ago. You might really enjoy it. This has been one of the most profound books that I have read in a great while.

Would you wear a crucifx?

my wonderful husband knows that i have been a religious person most of my life and while he despises jehovah's witnesses with a passion, he knows that i still believe in god and christ.

he being a greek orthodox and a wonderful human being he bought me a beautiful crucifix of jesus on a cross.

it is black stone and silver and says on the back of the cross, alpha and omega.

The only metal on or near my body is the metal fillings in my teeth, and they are soon to go. If I did wear items, I'd be inclined to wear an ankh, a pentagram, a hexagram, or a yin/yang or various other chinese characters. I like the look of some eastern european crosses, but would not wear them so as to be identified (assumed) christian.

edited to add: I would most definetly wear objects that I made myself, and again, be disinclined to wear those made by others. I don't have gold/silver/platinum melting equipment, so I don't see this happening for a while yet.

The Passion Christian Hype is Making Me Sick--Thoughts

i've seen the passion.

thought i'd be moved.

it supposedly has changed people's lives, caused them to confess sins (actually turned themselves in as criminals), etc.. please, can you explain to me why shindler's list didn't inspire such actions?

As a counter point to this, Monty Python is re-releasing their movie "The Life of Brian". I read this on Yahoo news, but couldn't find the link.

If I get to go see this, I am going to dress up like an apostle or other period costume.

PASSION of the Christ

wondering if anyone has seen it yet, and what the general consensus was around here.

i saw it a week ago this coming monday, overall i liked it, and didnt really see what the controvesy was, thought that the aramaic w/ english subtitles was a nice touch, cinematography was great, watching mary's griefmoved me a whole lot more than watching jesus get tortured, satan rocked visually, i especially enjoyed the fact that he was portrayed by a female, [that was not a comment to instigate the femenists on the board] though he had one too many hollywood moments, i really like the fact that jesus actually came across as arrogant, not the weakling he is always portrayed as during the easter season, he actually had some nads, and had something to say, that was cool, made him a lot more real in my eyes, after walking out of the theater though, i could only keep thinking to myself this was such a tragedy in the likes of homer, a hero bound for disaster, a legend told through the centuries, much like king arthur became a legend based on the events of a real man, im thinking the same must have happened with him, 80 flogs with bamboo into it i was thinking endorphines and adrenaline, yet it kept going into a second round, how he was able to walk after that and carry a cross, seemed a bit ludicrous, comments??

I just got back from seeing this now.

I was really disinclined to see it just because of all the hype.

It was a very well put together piece of cinematography.

The 'experience' for me was NOT religious at all. I saw a group of men interested only in their own power, kill a man through trechery. I saw humans acting inhuman towards another human. The dynamic is alive and well today.

anyone now have an aversion to dress clothes?

anyone else have an aversion to dress clothes, now that you aren't forced to wear a suit and tie (women insert their version here) to sit a stadium for 8 hours on a summer day?

being forced to do this as a young child traumatized me pretty good!

I sort of do now. I am content in faded jeans, Tshirt and boots-cowboy or just workboots. I have become very much a minimalist; there are so many things that I just don't need. I put on a shirt and tie once or twice a year. I used to enjoy it almost with the relish of a fetish, but now, it is a turn off.

when i left the witnesses, i decided it was time to vote.

so i registered republican and went to voting all republican and conservative.

i figured, they might not be perfect, but unlike the democrats that i have seen.
