i grew up like alot of you on my book of bible stories with all the beautiful illustrations .
thinking back the characters that i was most fascinated with were those like jezebel, delilah, queen vashti etc.
being a young teenage girl, to me they seemed way more interesting.
From when I was little I always liked the story of Joseph. I loved how he stayed faithful to God, not matter what.
Then, there is the story of Peter. The best talk I ever heard at a Kingdumb Hall was about Peter and his betrayal of Jesus. There were many of us in the audience that were either in tears or close to it.

she found an envelope with my name and "personal & confidential" typed on it taped to the door of our apartment.
i asked her to open it and read it, and evidently there is some evidence of apostacy that they want to review with me this saturday (4-21-06) at 7:30 pm.. the funny thing is that i have not been to a meeting since 1993, the last time i was at a circuit assembly or district convention was 1995!
i know that i have been spotted going to my church (3 blocks from the king-dumb hell).

i have a question and need to vent... so one of my favorite things about not being a jw is that if i feel strongly about a particular cause, i can volunteer to help out.
thus far, my volunteering has centered around literacy.
this weekend is the arkansas literary festival.
Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I thought. I will honor the commitment I made this year, but won't be volunteering next year.
Oh, by the way. The event on Saturday morning is at the Clinton Presidential Center. One of my friends works there. When I told her about it, she gave me a seat at the table the Clinton Foundation reserved. So, I'm not paying for it and I'll be going to the event!
I think I'm going to start volunteering for ARORA which is the local organ recovery agency. They were FANTASTIC during the passing of my mother-in-law.

Okay. I have a question and need to vent... So one of my favorite things about not being a JW is that if I feel strongly about a particular cause, I can volunteer to help out. Thus far, my volunteering has centered around literacy.
This weekend is the Arkansas Literary Festival. It is the third year of the event and I have volunteered every year, but this year may be my last. I am an author escort this year. Basically I pick him up from the airport, take him to events, make sure he has everything he needs during his presentation at the Festival and take him back to the airport. It's not hard at all. I was the escort for this author last year, so I know what to expect even.
Here comes the vent... I was sent an email last night that I was to pick my author and another author up on Saturday morning and take them to a paid entry event. The other author is the keynote speaker at the event. No problem. However, I was also informed that I would need to buy a ticket to get in at this event. Ummm... that's where I have my issue. They asked me to perform a function for the event and then asked me to buy a ticket for said event. If I wanted to go to an event that I was not working, I could understand that I would need to purchase a ticket.
Here is the question... Growing up a JW, the only volunteering I had ever experienced was forced upon me: field service, cleaning the men's room at the KH or cleaning the men's room at the DC. Is this practice of charging volunteers normal? Do other organizations ask for volunteers to run events and then charge them to get into to work at that event? When I questioned this with the director of the Festival, she told me that this is what the executive committee had decided on. I will totally admit that sometimes I do not know how the "real world" works. So, before I decide that this will be my last year volunteering for them, I thought I might ask you guys.

Okay, here's the deal:
Everyone has choices. Richie made the choice to take a book. Many of you would not have made that choice. Why must we continue debating this?
Beep, it appears from your first post that you can't believe we (and I include myself in this) would support Richie's actions. Some of us do, some of us don't. However the majority of us totally support Richie as a person. He has proven that he is a good person, with just a bit of an edge on him. But isn't that normal for a SEVENTEEN year old? Had Richie been 25, 30 or 40, maybe his choice would have been different.
Berean, Straw Man argument noted. However, I would like to point out that the world is never just BLACK or WHITE. It's never one way OR the other. There are so many issues where the answer lies somewhere in the GREY field between the two. And for different people, that answer could be anywhere in the grey.
It's been noted that those of us that support Richie are still thinking like the WTS. "They're doing it, so why can't we?" type of thinking. Wow. I honestly didn't take that into consideration. You just might be right. However, I would like to point out another WTS way of thinking that has appeared on this thread: The WTS also has no issue telling people what to think and why, however I don't think they would point anyone to Wikipedia.
The real issue is that Richie is going through some very rough times that he should not have to go through. Many of us have been there before, and some of us are fortunate enough not to have gone through them. Either way, NO ONE should have to go through this. The real issue is that these janitors and window washers elders are trying to play god with other people's lives. It is just another reason why I hate the WTS!

i can't believe it, but i missed my first memorial!!!.
i wasn't sure what was going to happen, until it was past the time to get ready and leave.
i left it up to my husband, and he made no effort to get ready and go.
Was the Memorial this past week? I guess I missed it, too.
Seriously, I didn't realize it had come and gone until Friday.
