Congregation "Bible Study"
by Blackfalcon98 inso i was riding along with an uber dub.
the conversation veered to mentioning how one elder gave a very encouraging comment (he is the of loving type).
the issue was no one remembered exactly what the comment was, so i said "i know it was during the book study, i mean the congregation bible study.

....."Nowadays the WTS rarely completely quotes anything from the bible, only snippets and citations."
The sad truth about it is the less the members are exposed to the context the better. Many texts are taken out of context in order to fit their narrative.
All information is presented not in a educational setting but more of a repetitive format where answers become irrelevant as they are merely repeated, processed, and then stored subconsciously.
Classic cult indoctrination.

Understanding our CURE from ADDICTION to the Watchtower cult.
by Fernando inwould it be fair to say many of the posts on jwn are in essence about this?.
if we could better understand what worked for us, would we be better able to help others?.
where do basic human needs ("met" by the cult) end, and where does addiction start?.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs fits the devoted JW profile really good. That is a sad assessment.

The other day Mom was over and I asked her if she ever looked into the WT prior to accepting membership (baptized) and dragging us right into the WT along with her. Her answer was a very sad and disillusioned no. She's also having difficulty understanding how the WT with so many false prophecies, the hypocritical nature of most congregations, how this could be Jehovah's chosen people much less organization.
To me personally, although I was raised in the organization, I've always had a difficult time reconciling some teachings with actual scripture. While I did ascertain many privileges over the years, I never allowed myself to be fully immersed and be led blindly by just the interpretations/teachings of the slave. I always maintained a simple philosophy. Always look at every WT study from a common sense perspective. Some JW's are so blind that they in effect would go home and jump in the river if the WT printed it in the magazine.
It hasn't been easy to make sense of the reality of trying to build your life independent of WT teachings. I still believe in God but don't believe the WT is being led by him.
The sad reality is 95% of the time the WT takes advantage of people when they are at their weakest morally speaking. In weekly meetings we call this as "circumstances changing."
The hypocritical nature of the organization is incredible. Take for example how they recently played the WT video on how to make true friends. Members that are looking at the video subjectively will agree wholeheartedly with the presentation. The video is a good presentation except on some points it is a fallacious view of life almost fantasy like. The video says that a true friend would respect our beliefs. This is an accurate statement, except that when looking at it objectively the statement falls apart. For example, if we were to befriend someone and that person respected us as a witness and starts studying with us. After a few months, this study/friend now starts to question some past WT teachings. After we explain to our new true friend the 'new light, old light' teaching, our friend looks at us with a perplexed look, dumbfounded by our unrealistic statement. So in time, they stop studying altogether yet they want to remain our true friend, he just simply does not agree with our teachings yet will respect our religious belief. Now, instead of remaining true to the teachings of the video, the WT advises us to avoid them altogether as a worldly/bad influence. Hence, we were never a true friend after all because we now avoid such person based on his religious point of view. Therefore, the "true friendship" was conditional and not sincere.

Satan, perfection, new world, and being s***ted on again
by Tenacious inaccording to the bible man was created a little lower in abilities to that of angels.
this means that angels are a tad higher in regards to their perfection.
perhaps they have a word for it in the spirit realm as we mere mortals do not.

@ Pterist
I understand your logic regarding freewill.
God in order to fulfill prophecy, protected Jesus throughout his life. Therefore, he allowed himself to look into the future.
Today, scripture also says Jehovah will protect his earthly organization so that it is not completely destroyed in order to once again, fulfill prophecy and his purpose. So Jehovah in effect allows himself a limited view of future events in order to protect his servants or at least most of his servants, in order to vindicate scripture. This is where it gets a bit murky for me. According to scripture anyone can have an accident and die yet scripture also says that if you are loyal to Jehovah he will protect you. I'm going to assume that he knows who he will protect because they will serve a specific purpose perhaps making more disciples? Perhaps during the GT? Maybe the individual that was about to die had yet not proved himself to God and more time was allowed for him to prove his faith in God and not be destroyed eternally? Of course all of this without predestination. While I see that it is a complex issue, many questions arise from predestination, members who were exemplary witnesses yet Jehovah allowed their death, future events. The survival of the one true God earthly organization collectively not individually. Does anyone remember that assembly a couple of years ago where the drama involved the death of a daughter and grandfather in a car accident? I remember blanking out for a second in order to grasp the concept of Jehovah not protecting them or allowing it to happen to prove a point to Satan where Satan is testing our integrity to Jehovah in the family members remaining faithful and loyal even though their loved ones died faithfully.
I would appreciate your sincere input on freewill, predestination, future events, and how all of these tie-in with future events including the GT and the Big A.

To me personally, it wasn't the 'new light' that started my questioning. It was when a brother told me that elders have a secret special book.
I still remember the feeling that came over me. It wasn't a feeling of ‘wow that is super neat'. It was more like WTF! How can that be? That's not right. We should all have access to the information coming from Bethel. Why the secrecy?
Another thing that got me questioning was how elders expected you to kiss their hand and throw rose petals as they entered the hall. Not to mention how they truly believed they were spiritual men yet acting completely contrary to it.
Seeing how these mutts treated the rank and file made me start to question how they qualified and why if over so many years they have caused so much chaos, why had they not been removed. Jehovah and Jesus certainly have the ability and strength to make it happen.
Lastly, on checking how the Apostle Paul said overseers should be chosen, I envisioned the recommendation being received by Bethel and then the entire GB sitting around a conference table praying their little hearts out asking each other after each prayer if anyone had received any indications.
Sounds silly but I was a snot nosed teen then and knew no better. I guess critical thinking, common sense, and basic reasoning skills should be allowed within the ranks.
The way I now see 'new light' is the GB indirectly admitting their reasoning was wrong and how Jehovah has made them see the point much clearer now. We were not wrong, we merely could not see very well. There was no light shining. It was just ideas of men.

According to the Bible man was created a little lower in abilities to that of angels. This means that angels are a tad higher in regards to their perfection. Perhaps they have a word for it in the spirit realm as we mere mortals do not. If an angel like Satan was beyond perfect in every sense although having free will, where did the sinful tendencies develop from? Was there someone else in their world that tempted Satan?
Does this mean that in the future no other angel will rebel and we are in effect guaranteed a perfect sinless new world for eternity?
Or can we expect another spirit realm rebellion and then be s***ted on again?
Considering the aforementioned, we are expected to believe that since we will all be perfect in every sense and no longer have any evil to tempt us into sinning, that we will live happily ever after?
The comparison here is how we as humans, expect to be sinless in the new world, yet a perfect angel rebelled causing us humans to be severely s***ted on for the past 6000+ years?
Your thoughts?

Hello to all. I've been posting on here a couple of days but have been a reader for some years now. It's just entirely too much for me to continue smiling and nodding approval.
I've always had an issue with titles within the organization. While I do know the answers to the questions I will outline, it amazes me that members are so numbed they cannot stop to reason and be sincere with themselves.
Many things really bothered me and got me questioning but the following questions are the most critical for me:
1. Why does the organization punish those with sincere questions when they are not satisfied with the typical "we don't know but wait on Jehovah."
2. Why does the organization feel the need to announce from the platform when someone is pioneering? Prominence?
3. Why is information a privilege and not freely available to all members such as being able to sit-in on the CO's special meeting with the pioneers?
4. Why has the society not apologized once for mistakes that obviously ruined and killed so many of their members?
5. Why does the society fear higher education? Critical thinking and reasoning skills being developed perhaps?
I look forward to some great discussions with everyone.

There are many things written that lead me to speculate on why, how, when, and if. The one thing that God did was give us the ability to choose as we see fit (free will). He did the same with the spirit beings and this is where it all went down-hill, fast.
My theory is that when God created the spirit being that eventually became Satan, this spirit being must have been used in a special way perhaps working closely with Jehovah and Jesus. In being assigned such a prominent position in the spirit realm, he must have been given additional responsibilities and perhaps even more power than the average Angel such as the Seraphim's. In theory, Satan could have actually believed his power coupled with more spirit beings could very well overthrow Jehovah. Hence, the rebellion and the eventual war in their realm. It sounds looney for us but we do not know much about their world to know what led Satan to actually believe he could destroy or at the very least topple his Creator.
I've always had a difficult time trying to reconcile some Scripture passages and what I have studied regarding the Universe, Quantum Mechanics, Consciousness, Vibrational Beings, lead me to believe that the Bible with all its wisdom may have been an interpolation of myths, legends, and actual happenings or events.
My 2 cents.
