My jdub wife said making 144000 symbolic would make her question things. But, I guarantee she would go along with it. Nothing short of an order to strangle our children would make her leave the organization.

If the GB changed a major teaching, would all witnesses just go along with it?
by stuckinarut2 inso if the gb changed its "bible based beliefs" on some teaching, would witnesses all of a sudden change their individual beliefs too?.
witnesses like to claim that "their bible trained hearts and minds" make them believe as they do, but we know that the reality is that all witnesses hold their "deep seated beliefs" according to what they have been told to believe.. so what would cause the average witness to question those that dictate their "personal convictions"??.
thoughts?.

Hi all,
Boring post below, fyi.
I was with extended family this weekend and the conversation drifted to contributions and donations. They said Amazon will donate a percentage of your purchase to a charity of choice.
I guess someone put in jdumbs and it went through. Anyone else heard of this? I didn't think watchtower was a charity.
The whole gang agreed that more shopping would be conducted on amazon so the borg would receive more money.
Anyway, that's all. Just curious.

"The G.B. is neither inspired nor infallible"
by smiddy inthat admission in the feb.17 ,study edition of the watchtower , " who is leading gods people today ?
" "the governing body is neither inspired, nor infallible, therefore it (they/we) can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction .".
have the many jehovahs witnesses past and present who have lost their lives by refusing blood transfusions due to the prohibition on blood tranfusions by jehovahs witnesses really got the sense of this statement ?.

So, Toni and friends aren't infallible nor inspired by god but have literal help from angels, got it.
Another face palm.

Am i reading this right...? The preaching work is done??
by Nobodyspecial inim sorry if this has been addressed, i have not seen any topics on this yet.. the wt for today seems to state, quiet plainly, that preaching work is done.
para 14,15 the question asks:.
"what proves that jehovahs witnesses have fulfilled jesus' prophecy with regard to the scope of the work?".
-
mikeypants
They are referring to the worldwide work, thus the line "with regard to the scope of the work".
They wouldn't need to weasel out of anything since they aren't claiming the preaching work is completed. They are saying they are preaching worldwide, thus fulfilling that part of the prophecy. Nothing more.

Elders intervening in family issues
by gatorguy indoes anyone know of any good scriptures or reference articles that i can show an elder to hopefully have him stop intervening in a family issue?
i already told him that i am the head of the house and that they're usurping my headship but they didn't seem to get the message.

Are you a baptized witness in good standing with the congregation? If so, I'm not sure how you would tell them to f off since their role is to spy and pry. If you indeed are in, shouldn't you be listening to their advice since they were appointed by holy spirit?
If you aren't in the truf tell them to piss off.

Is the Bible God's word? Help please.....
by Freeandclear inso real quick, i know this comes up now and then and i've looked over some of the posts from the past but here's the thing.. when i was a jw i drank all the cool aid, i was 100% and so i have all my own arguments (from the jw's) for why the bible is inspired.
i no longer believe this but i'd really like to read something that is pretty much 100% academic on this subject.
i want to read what scholars have to say about the authenticity of the bible and it's claim at being the inspired word of god.

If by god you mean the men who actually wrote it then yes.

Did Geoffrey Jackson Actually Reject His Faith During the ARC Hearing?
by xjwsrock inas portrayed in the convention videos this year about sergei (the fictional jw character in cold-war-era ussr), the jw leaders expect loyalty, even enduring imprisonment and/or death.
in one scene sergei was offered an early release from prison if he would sign a statement renouncing his religion.
well he refused and spent 5 years in prison as a result.

Revelation 5:9,10 and the 144,000
by Darkknight757 ini hesitate to ask this question.
during some recent research on youtube i came across a few videos explaining how watchtower manipulated revelation 5:10. revelation 5:10 "you have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our god,and they will reign on the earth.”" -niv.
the nwt13 renders this verse: 10 and you made them to be a kingdom+ and priests to our god,+ and they are to rule as kings+ over the earth.”.

Is there any talk of changing the 144k to symbolic? Hope so.
That's one of the things the wife says would never happen. After much questioning she admitted this would be cause for reconsideration of her faith in the organization.
But, if it did change, I'm certain she would rationalize it and be even more convinced the chariot is on the move.
Something like "It makes so much more sense now. I always believed in my heart that it was symbolic!"

Looks like tight pants tony got to oversee a study article.
I don't see the change here though. End of that paragraph sums it up by saying beards offend certain morons and we don't want to stumble them. True preachers wouldn't have them.
Business as usual. Carry on brothers.
