  " if the watchtower said it, and the men on the platform preached it, then it must have been true.

  so it was very hard to accept as an adult, that they were wrong.

  i blame myself.

  Some things I'd like to do in life....

  teach my students (future) how to think.. live somewhere other than chicago for at least a year.

  learn how to cook kick-ass healthy meals.

  travel asia.. own a horse.. write a book, even if it never gets published.. have sex in outer space (okay, i'll settle for the beach).

  Criticism is unavoidable

  as i've stepped off the train of a myopic weltenschuung and entered the busy streets of competing ideas, i have come to a very interesting realization: all claims, ideas, philosophies, behaviors -- everything -- can be criticised.

  it doesn't matter how good your argument is, how beneficial it might be to humanity -- it can and will be put through the machine of skepticism and kinks in the armor will become known.

  criticism is unavoidable.

  the latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.

  ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.

  Where are the liars now?

  when i was a child, and being raised a jehovah's witness, i remember a lot of key members of the local congregation.

  there were the elders who always seemed to be there for my family.

  there were the families that were the central figures of the congregation and even the local witness community.

  Advertising phrases in religion

  "buy now, while supplies last", "going out of business, save now", "end of season prices!

  " all of which are common in advertising, and they all present a time of urgency to do something before the time runs out.

  advertising in general, works off the idea that we have to fool the customers mind into thinking something is better or more desirable then it really is.

  The lost congregation, or something else?

  while i have seen on many occasions the benefit of sharing our past problems, or life, with others who have been through the same.

  i am very curious as to what the real benefit would be, to leaving a religion of such control and segregated thinking, only to venture online or in person to others who are basically a lost congregation of the religion.

  does it benefit a person to seek out former jehovah's witnesses?
