Trouble For Richie
by RichieRich inas many of you know, i have a myspace.com account.. apparently, while i was out last night, someone called my mother and informed her of my activities on myspace.
my mother called and asked me for my login info, and was shocked to see me, and around 40 witnesses in my area having active profiles.
contents of these profile ranged from a few pictures to downright self-incrimination.

The baby survives an abortion. Now what?
by MegaDude infrom the article: fifty babies a year are alive after abortion.
they can be born breathing and crying at 19 weeks gestation, he said.
i am not anti-abortion, but as far as i am concerned this is sub-standard medicine.

for a while, my sister worked at a Planned parenthood in Kansas City, and they were scrupulous about stopping the heart before the abortion. the worst thing that happened was sometimes the RU486 pill wasn't taken properly by the woman or she didn't follow-up, resulting in a developing fetus with horrible defects, which then had to be given the shot to stop the heart before inducing delivery. from what I know, it's about as humane as they can make it for the mother and baby. the people I know who work in clinics who perform abortions are very caring and empathetic. they don't "murder babies with glee", as one pro-life person put it. they try to make a sad reality (unwanted pregnancies are a fact of life that can't be ignored) as humane as possible for everyone involved.
probably the best way to prevent later-term (and possibly survivable) abortions is to make it so women and girls aren't afraid to seek help immediately. also, it's pretty obvious the UK doctors must be more scrupulous about stopping the heart BEFORE the procedure. -

Watchtower website article on the History of the Tortilla
by IronGland in"please pass the tortillas".
while the writer obviously enjoys tortillas i wonder if it saddens him that the culture that created the tasty tortilla will soon be slaughtered at har-mageddon?

Penn Jillette gives a great essay on Atheism
by Gollum innpr has revived an old radio thing from the 50's called "this i believe".
the one yesterday had penn jillette (kind of my hero anyway) getting around there requirement for a positive assertion of faith, by saying he positivily believes there is no god.. anyway, it's now become my favorite essay.
here's the link with the text and a link to the audio.

Why I do it: some primordial part of my brain tells me that if a guy is with a happy-looking woman, then he's safe. It's been ingrained in my head that guys on their own are scary and should not be approached except in a well-lit, well-populated area.
As for hitting on a guy once he's seen with a girl, that's just skanky. Never done it.
From the other side of it: when I'm out with my husband, I see other women looking at us, and I know some are just sizing us up and seeing how well I did, others are checking him out because now that he's with me he's not free to run up and start checking THEM out.
Then there are the guys who just aren't attractive until some kind woman comes along and teaches them how to dress and makes them brush their teeth. All of the sudden, they're clean and cute. Women admire that. -

About me:
My name at the time was Tanya Woolery. My family attended the Belvidere, IL congregation. We went to Janesville for the Circuit Assemblies and Cicero and Madison for the District Conventions. I knew people from Marengo, DeKalb, Freeport, South Beloit, Rochelle, and so on. I helped on a lot of quickbuilds in that area. I was the funny-looking kid with red hair and thick glasses, dressed in garage sale outfits. My family was not of the Elite Class of Belvidere JWs. We were more like a cautionary tale for the rest of the congregation, my father having been disfellowshipped about three times for molesting my sister, being an alcoholic, and god knows what else. All of us kids were in foster care at some point. My parents and I don't speak, and I cringe to think I'm descended from them.
I was never baptized, mainly because at the time I was studying the book to prepare for baptism, the summer of 1990, I was raped by five guys, and the reaction of my parents and the elders was absolutely disgusting. I was made to feel as though it was my fault. It took years for me to stop feeling as though I'd brought it on myself. Needless to sasy, it soured whatever feelings I had left about the religion, as I was basically reading the baptism book as a last effort to make "The Truth" sink into my heart. It never did, even though I tried for two years after to put in auxilary pioneer hours. In 1993, I ran away from home and started over, which was hard to do with no one from my past who could relate except my friend Roxanne. Anyway, if you remember me, comment here or PM me.
