I believe that the scripture about being washed clean in the blood of a lamb has a much more esoteric definition than most people think. It's a symbol of inner purification, and shows that suffering, however horrible it might be, is a part of being alive and we couldn't truelly grow without it.

I was only after I started praying more and doing more research that I began to see the WTS for what it was. I drew closer to God, but farther away from the WTS.

Interesting, I had always thought that maybe the ole serpent wasn't such a bad guy.
I've noticed that some of the stories in the Bible, if interpreted in a spiritual way and not a literal way, at times seem to be saying the exact opposite of what they appear to be.

Thanks for these critiques Blondie, I can't imagine studying through all that drudgery myself.
Until I started reading these posts, I never realized just how many subtle messages and double-speak the WTS puts into their study articles. It's very eye-opening. At first when I read this article on prayer I had thought it was actually rather decent, until I took a closer look and read inbetween the lines.

Paradise Erf - What did you NOT look forward to?
by Nosferatu inremember when you were in the troof, and had the thoughts of paradise erf continually being pounded into your head?
you'd be able to pet lions, eat fruit, and smile, but there were things that were going to be destroyed at armageddon.
what were you going to miss in the old world?

Alot of brothers I knew hoped that they would be able to travel to other planets. It seems to me that many of them were hoping the new system would be some sort of Star Trek type world.
There were many concepts I had about the paradise that were appealing, I was looking forward to be able to live forever and explore all the amazing possibilities of the imagination that eternity would offer. However, now that I believe in reincarnation, the prospect of eternal physical life isnt quite as enticing. Still, I don't think there's anything wrong in hoping for a better world.

What scams did you use for counting your time?
by Ivor Hope in.
flowerpetals post and thread reminded me of some of the scams we would use to try to show the maximum numbers of hours spent in "service" for the smallest amount of effort.
here's some of the ones i remember...just wondered if any of you had any other memories.. .

For a while I did actually enjoy field service, probably because I didn't beat myself over the head for not getting a certain number of hours in.
I did however, cheat a little by starting my time at the very moment I arrived for the service meeting.
You know, with regards to driving 45 minutes to reach the territory, I used to notice that even many elders in my congregation would do this. . .

I had always imagined paradise as some sort of scene out of a fantasy novel, with magic powers and beautiful forests and whatnot. For a while I was really looking forward to it, until I began to realize just how horrible Armageddon would be. After that point, whenever other witnesses would talk about how much they were looking forward to the big A, I would secretly be thinking "not me, I hope it doesn't come for another 500 years!"

Hello everyone,
I've been lurking on this site for the past two months and just now decided to post. I was raised a witness, and got baptised only a couple years ago. However, shortly after my baptism I started having doubts, and began to suffer from low self esteem. Part of it was based on things I read over the internet. I had tried to take my questions to the elders, but their answers were either unsatisfactiory or accusing (i.e. where did you hear this information?). However, only about six months ago I learned of the child molestation and the UN scandal. At first I was shocked, but then actually felt relieved. I know, its horrible that these things happened, but it was a great relief to know that the dub slavemasters were never chosen by God. Although I'm still an active witness (to an extent) I can confidently say that I've severed my mental ties with the organization, and it feels great.

If anyone is curious, here's some good links I found.
The one on NDE's is particularily good, I helped me get over my fear about not being able to live forever. The other one contains lots of helpful information about how to actually train to have OBE's.
