I like it a lot-4 seasons and none of them too extreme, although summer does overstay it's welcome at times. We have it all-beach, mountains...hey, maybe I should work for the board of tourism...!

in our personal life, there has been a slight improvement over last year.
our area, our little town is still struggling and losing small businesses.
my latest co-worker is a fellow business owner.

I live in the Atlanta area, which I understand is one of the few pockets of thriving economy in the nation. I work as a graphic artist for the state, and have a 10 min. commute to work which makes me the envy of all my friends who are stuck in rush our for hours in the a.m. and p.m.
I think the Walmarts kill the small businesses-who can compete with their prices? What's sad is when they lay waste to the local ecomony like that and then move out. That happened to my mom's small town in AL.
I'm thankful to have a job I like and to work with people I really like. There's a lot to be said for that!

did you leave the watchtower society and the true god ,too?.
i believe that god still helps some of the of the ones still "traped" in the org.
- god helped me greatly while i was still in.
AAF:
The thing that bothers me the most in reading this whole thread is that NOT ONCE have you directly, IN YOUR OWN WORDS with your own thoughts answered one question. All you do is quote scripture. I am interested to know your story-how did you choose to get out of the WTS? Were you born in? Indoctrinated? I myself used to be a fire-breathing, fundamentalist, scripture totin' and quotin', black and white thinking believer. However, through a process not unlike that of James Thomas' journey I came to see and believe in a god much larger than any I had seen before.
Although your enthusiasm is admirable, I wonder if you might give some thought to why you feel compelled to make everyone think as you do. Seeing all that scripture quoting gives me the heebie jeebies and brings up flashbacks of my fundie days with people who had very little love for one another and a whole lot of judgement for everyone. Why should we want to be like that? Everyone has the right to believe as they wish, but no one has the right to force their beliefs on anyone else.
In coming on like the Scripture Samurai you are doing the same thing as the guys going door to door on Sat. mornings trying to shove Jehovah (or his org) down the throats of the unwilling. You have a right to believe as you do. I have a right to say I believe differently.
Respectfully,
L1
And to James Thomas:
Kudos! You are an inspiration and a wise man.
i've fought the blues all day, and now i've had all i kin stanz, i kin stanz no more!

that's right, i want sympathy dammit!
AAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!! Poor Baby!
Feel better? Can I keep my soul now?

nowhere in the bible is it stated to celebrate your wedding anniversary, yet j.w.
baby showers are acceptable, but not birthdays.. correct me if i am incorrect, but doesn't the bible say to "honor the father and mother of your youth", yet mothers day and fathers day are unacceptable to celebrate.
The first year my Jdub boyfriend and I were dating he took me to a New Year's Eve party at a (worldly) friends house. We had a great time. As the years went by and he got sucked more deeply into the borg (he was just a dabbler when we met) we never went again-nor even went out. The last year, he wouldn't even see me on NYE. This year I'm goin' out dancing with friends. I love New Years. I hate the Witnesses. They suck the joy of life out of everything.
i've been seeing a very nice guy for two months now, every day, almost every minute.
as you know it can become very obvious when a guy is about to pop the question.. i have been very honest with him about when i'd be willing to marry, which is to say not until i graduate from college which is still a 1 1/2 years away, of course i hear things like "well a couple can wait but be commited right"?.
anyway i've bounced this off of my friends and have several opinions already but i thought i'd ask it here.. how long would you date someone before you considered accepting an engagement ring?
And, hey, I think loafers and no socks is sexy! Should I be going for a different type of feetwear?? Maybe that's where I went wrong!

After 2 marriages to WAY the wrong men, after knowing them each only 6 months, my advice is take your time. When I was 18 someone told me to go traveling, live my life, have fun and not to worry about settling down right away. So what did I do? GOT MARRIED!
Now I wouldn't marry anyone I hadn't known for at least 3 years, to be sure that he wasn't really some kind of psycho. I dated the Jdub boyfriend for 3 years and it opened my eyes a lot to be around him for so long. He's a great guy but so hammered by the org he can't see straight. I was a "bad association" although he didn't think that when he spent the night I guess!
Anyway-time is a good thing. The best things take time-fine wine and good cheese and, I suppose, good relationships. If he has your best interests at heart, he'll respect your wishes. You seem as if you have agood head on your shoulders. I wish you luck and happiness!

lots of love connections have been made on this board, and its about time we made a few more!
its been almost a year since there was a thread on this, and i figure its about time for an update.. so, are you single?
if so, post a little about yourself here - perhaps there's a love connection right here on this board!.
Hey Maverick-

I'm not an ex-JW but I dated a JW for 3 years-am I disqualified? Of course he told everyone we were "just friends" although we slept together frequently-wonder if he did that with all his friends!??
I came here looking for knowledge and found a great bunch of folks. I've read you all on many topics. Am I looking for another love conection---maybe, maybe not. I'm not desperate, but I'd like friendship and companionship. I'm 5' 2, eyes of blue. Like intelligent conversation, art, DANCING, humor and anything outdoor. Airplanes are a weakness, too.
Fictional character I most resemble? Lucy from Charlie Brown-"I'm not a pessimist! I'm a realist!"
