JW email forward about the tsunami
by cyber-sista inanyway, this is an email i received this morning.
don't want to give any disrepectuful comments about it as this tragedy is overwhelming and i am grateful for any who have come out of this alive.
but yet i am still suspicious of any of these jw reports.

Am I doing what's needed??
by Dawn inthis question would seem funny to non-jw's - but i bet some of you x-jw's will understand.. i look at the world around me and see so much need.
i look at my own life and see so much blessings and wealth.
i give to charity - but i always think - "is it enough?

I've never been a JW, but yesterday I was driving my daughter around to use the gift cards she had received for Christmas and was thinking along the same lines. I feel so badly for those suffering so much and here I am driving a nice car through the McDonald's drive through. We often take the good things we have for granted, but I believe God also honors our gratitude for the good that we do have, and he looks at our hearts and knows that we are happy to give what and when we can.
Besides, if you give everything away, then you become a charity case that others need to support! The thing I don't understand is how those with enormous amounts of money can spend it so carelessly. I don't believe I could ever bring myself to spend $475 for a pair of shoes!!! But that's just me....

For education or just for fun? Usually I read for self-improvement-always trying to figure out why I am the way I am and STOP IT! But sometimes I read just for fun. The best book I've read lately was David Sedaris' Me Talk Pretty One Day. If you want to laugh your ass off-read it. I was proctoring a test, which means that basically I was sitting in the room making sure they don't cheat, reading that book and I had to stop because I kept either bursting out laughing or snorting while trying to stifle it. I give it 5 stars out of 5.
How about you? What's on your current reading list?

I'm glad that you have come to JWD to investigate. Please don't let the harsh or condescending tone of some impede your research. You seem to have made up your mind already about the JWs, but a little investigation might not hurt. If it is truly the truth-what does the truth have to fear from scrutiny? If it is the truth it will stand no matter what. There are many FACTS that you will find here, not just opinions. The facts point to there being a lot of falsehood in the Watchtower organization. It's good that you seek to serve and honor God as you understand him, just make sure that you aren't confusing God with and organization of men.
God bless you on your search,

I, also applaud you Peggy, for stating your opinion so forthrightly. If I had been in your shoes I would probably have just faded away, disappointedly thinking that these people were just like the ones you had always known. And some are, but most aren't. There are many and varied opinions and personalities here, which is what makes it such a vibrant place. People can disagree, and agree to disagree, which is what many are seeking after being so repressed in the org.
It's true that the poor guy on that website is more to be pitied than laughed at, and I'm sure that many have the thought that "there, but for the grace of God go I." I'm sure there is a lot of relief in some people that they aren't in his shoes anymore, and some express that by laughing at it. We all have our own ways of dealing with our feelings. Anyway, I'm glad you posted and I hope you stay around here. There is much more good than bad, I've found. Good luck to you!

Going out! New Year's is my FAVORITE HOLIDAY!!! Why, you ask? Well, because I can get dressed to the nines, go out with my friends and dance, dance, dance. We aren't drinkers, so it's nice to just go out and have a great time with no kids!!!

BTW - I started a thread on facial hair because I, too, couldn't see what could possibly be worng with it! Another avenue of control is all it is.

A Loving organization?
by startingover inlast saturday an old friend of ours took her life.
she and her husband had almost been married 25 years, and we had known her longer than that.
she was like a little sister to my wife.
