Just got back from Field Service

i had to work with an elder in fs today.

there was no way out.. this elder is from africa somewhere, right off the boat.

how do they view children?.

Blondie, respectfully, you are comparing some very very different things. This so called father left his son swinging at a door. Its embarassing and it no doubt made his son feel bad on a lot of levels, dad didnt back him up when he should have, dad made him feel stupid for not being able to handle something that he shouldnt been able to handle anyway etc etc...

That is so far removed from sexual abuse i cant believe you even loosely made the comparison. Its also a HUGE devide between physical abuse and what happened in BE's story. HUGE. Im not saying it was right but it wasnt anywhere near either of those situations you described.

Im sure most will give you latitude to speak on those abuses as a survivior and i would never diminish what you had to overcome and deal with... but To essentially say BE did the same as those who ignored your sexual and physical abuse is dead wrong. He dosent need barbara anderson to tell him how to deal with this. Or silent lambs. Or the police. Im sure i will get roasted to no end for my POV but your comparison is way off base and out of line.

Im always amused at the plethora of know it alls who are quick to tell others how to live their life on this forum. Everyone has to live their own life and be accountable for the why's and wherefores's of their life. And no one else's.

Examiner, i spent my fair share of time figuring out how and when to leave and in the process did as much good as i could. Be it 16 min or 16 years everyone has their own path. Nothing but respect for you.

And as for watcher... lol how typically JW. Its up to someone else to save the boy. Not his own father to have an ounce of sense. You choose to blame the bystander thrust into an uncomfortable family situation. How much better would the world be if you had the sense you wish on others.

Would This Be Adultery?

i just happened to read a news article from some months ago about doctors having performed a successful penis transplant.

the recipient lost his due to cancer, and doctors expect him to gain full use of his "new" penis, including sexual activities.

considering some of the more goofy interpretations of doctrine that the gooberning body trots out that the rank and file must obey under penalty of shunning i wonder if a man had this surgery, would he and or his wife be df'd for adultery?

While i understand that original question was sarcastic there is an interesting precedent in wt liturature. The org teaches that surogyscey is immoral on the ground that a woman would be carying another mans sperm. This has no application to the original question posed but it does go to show how the far wt will reach on these matters

There are days i think im the only person in the world without a victim complex.

While i STRONGLY agree that medical tests/ organ harvesting etc etc should be done with either prior consent or with the consent of next of kin the ablity to paint this as somehow a gross miscarage of social norm or an injustice is twisted.

i wonder how she would feel if she knew how much good had come and what her position would be... the ends doesnt justify the means but even in a strictly legal context no harm was done. Its would be difficult to award damages beyond some punitive fines and modest cash award to the family even in our current lawsuit happy culture.

Life isnt always and we need to speak up when wrong is done. This dosent qualify.

What do You Think About Hybrid and Electric Cars?

battery technology has been making leaps and bounds in affordability and energy output throughout the past decade.

while pure electric cars currently have limited range, the near future holds prospects for longer ranges.

hybrids, and recently plug in hybrids, have a mileage of up to 50 mpg* giving them a range of 500 miles from a ten gallon gas tank.

I have a prius to commute to and from work in. On good days i do better than 50mpg, around 57-60. My record is 77. However that was in heavy traffic, a place where my prius c excells. Winter time it drops (batteries dont as well in cold amd oxygenated fuel) to around 48-52. Over all its well worth it and far more efficient than NOT driving it and getting 20-30 mpq in a other car. Hopefully battery tech will inprov and they will start using lion batts which perform better , but really for me it was an easy choice and i havnt regreted it.

Lol please. Creepy? They were well lit, tiled and painted just like the buildings they connected. They were large and spacious. They wernt little tunnels you crawled through or something. I always found it convenient and safe to be able to go between the larger buildings at night and even during the day it let you avoid the heat or cold or rain... of all the creepy ass things bethel the tunnels were way down on the list

at last night's clam the circuit overseer made this comment, "we elders sometimes have to act as judges in the congregation.

but we (the elders) are imperfect, and so cannot know everything about judicial matters.

that is why we (the elders) have the biblical rule that there must be at least two witnesses to wrongdoing.

If richard is correct its progress but still not the obvious correct answer. Yes two witness for congregation action is their right but all allegations should be taken to the police, period. Let the police (or appropriate agency) handle it no matter what and whatever the little association of book sellers wants to do is up to them.

Watchtower/Bethelite Volunteers and US Self Employment or FICA Tax?

with so many aging bethelites being "laid off" after years of volunteer service, what hope do they have of collecting any social security retirement?

i ask because i recently learned that my mother will not receive any government retirement benefits because she did not work enough to collect the 40 credits required.

this got me to thinking about bethel volunteers.
