Please vaccinate your children
by Viviane inand remember your boosters as adults!.
currently there is a measles outbreak in the u.s. the outbreak is clustered into communities where parents choose not to get their children vaccinated.
vaccination works primarily on herd immunity.

Scientology commercial during superbowl
by _Morpheus inas preface for those outside the usa, the superbowl is a big deal here in the states.
commercial spots are extremly expensive and the air time is coveted by advertisers.
in fact the commercials are a huge draw for non sports fans to watch the game because companies get so creative.. with that as the back drop, the church of scientology ponied up the dough for a superbowl commercial!

with that as the back drop, the church of scientology ponied up the dough for a superbowl commercial! I was blown away. A religious advertisement during the superbowl. What are the odds that people will be drawn to a religion because of that commercial? Would the borg ever get that point? Would it help them? Im not really sure how to quantify my feelings about that spot, but its not a good feeling to see a cult advertise in such big way

Ony J.W.'s could do this and not question what is going on
by Sour Grapes inat the meeting today several elders commented about the wonderful program that they attended yesterday on the new kingdom hall designs.
they said that the new halls are going to be so beautiful with lots of windows and glass panels and that the lights will be kept on in the lobby 24/7 so that you can see into the hall at night and that thousands of these halls must be built.
then five minutes later they are talking about how close the end is and that we will be meeting in basements in the near future.

Just as an aside to the OP, no congregation had a loan forgiven.
1) The branch office of jehovahs withesses is listed as the owner of every kingdom hall. If the branch owns it and finances it, the local publishers are not indebted or repaying "loan".
2) the imaginary loans wernt "forgiven" and payments ceased. The terms modified so that loans are now payed in perpetuity. That is the complete opposite of a loan being forgiven.

So my dad comes from vacation and ???!!!
by Kool Jo inhello folks.....so in an earlier thread i started, you'd realize that my father and i are quite close, we talk about almost everything/anything.. he traveled outside the country (he's semi-retired), enjoying the fruitage of his hard labor during his younger years.
so he recently returned home after he and mum went away to catchup with some old friends in another country.. upon his returning home, and subsequently to the meetings, he was told that a decision was made to strip him of his "field overseer" role, but will still continue to be an elder.. the reason...he goes away for too long too often...you can't be away from your congregation for three months out of the year!!!???
has anyone else had this experience before?

Yep as others have noted, totally normal. The ks says the main qualification for being a service group overseer is to be out with them in field service. Maybe he will see the advantage of less responsiblities and use his time for himself or some other worthwhile pursuit -

In an attempt to create this moral delemma you over look one critical dubbie doctrine: nothing done before baptisum is held against you. The chld isnt even born let alone baptised. Its a non issue -

GB says, "Our way of worship will soon be altered."
by Separation of Powers inmy mom called me yesterday to ask how i was doing.
i hadn't seen her in a while, so it was nice to hear her voice.
we went through the motions of jw small talk and then she started telling me about her co visit from last week.

@splash- i made an inquiry of an elder here in DC and he had no knowledge of such arrangments to test the broadcast or for any plans for upcomming streaming in april. Any details or the specifics of a dated letter would be appreciated :) -

American Sniper - courage or cowardice?
by Simon inthe movie american sniper is breaking box office records and of course there is some irony that a movie about a sniper is released on martin luther king day (who was shot by one).. but of course there is a world of difference between an assassin and a military sniper ... or is there?.
some are making a big stink about it and claiming that "snipers are cowards".
it seems unfair to me.

J dub, respectfully i say its clear you havent seen either american sniper or hurt locker. Neither of those films glorifies the iraq war any more than schindler's list glorifies ww2. Those two movies are rather stark portrayals of the toll war takes on individuals and in particular the haunting choices made by soldiers (one fictional, one historical) in iraq.
Im not suggesting you watch them nor am i trying to change your view point on that war or in any way debating the pros and cons of americas role in that region, but i am pointing out that to rationally comment on those films one should see them before forming an opinion.
