JWs have more good points than bad
by lsw1961 in1) many who were on the destructive path have been transformed by their teachings (this includes me who was once vicious, and presumptuous and atheistic).
2) equal monthly pay to all members of the bethel community regardless of whether they are bc members or sweepers.
this is something that still remains as an unattainable dream for the world.

I left for my children and suffered the loss of all my so called friends and family. Knowing that this is a captive organization I could not condemn them to the potential loss that I have had to endure. Since I'm 3rd Gen. on both sides of my family I was born into this high control group. When my grand parents became witnesses shunning was condemned as a non biblical practice. Something I only found out about after I left. -

ISW - many of the points you make are directly from GB approved material. Any entity or group has good they can highlight. Truth however withstands the tests of critical fire. If you have truth it has nothing to fear from examination from outside sources.
This forum is full of ex jws at differing phases in their life. Try putting yourself in one of our shoes for a moment as it is to easy to pass something off as it doesn't happen because it hasn't happened to you or someone you know. Imagine your child being abused and having it brushed under the rug, or losing your child because you didn't give them a blood transfusion. The latter almost happened to me if it hadn't been for the courts. I was going along just fine I thought. An elder, wt. conducter, ex-bethelite, parts on conventions and assemblies. Then bang my son gets leukemia and the next thing you know I'm in the hospital with hlc fighting the hospital over a blood transfusion that would save his life. Thankfully they gave it to him and 3 years later almost done with treatment and a 90% remission rate.
Please continue your journey as people's lives are at stake and not just your own if you have children or grandchildren. I believe this site is better after you have done some initial research. I recommend going to YouTube and typing in "Only In Christ" start with the Gods Channel series as it lays out the history you are likely unaware of as a JW because it is not from the GB. Next listen to the audio of Crisis of Conscious by Ray Franz ex GB member. There is no vitriol in his tone as proclaimed of so called apostates. You can download his book as well. I would then recommend going to jwfacts.com. Then come back here with some real knowledge, not what's been spoon fed to you by wt.

James unfortunately I do not work in a childrens hospital. I have spent many nights there with my son who is currently submitted into the hospital any time he gets a flu. -

So if I get this right, children suffering wanting to live and not be in pain is not in line with his will. Oh what a god.
I spent more nights than I care to remember waking up to the groans of other children suffering and dying.

Not for Believers - could be hard to swallow
by The Marvster inwell now that i'm a confirmed apostate (a couple of the forum posters confirmed this today), gosh hearing myself say that is a bit frightening.... how the hell did i get to this place, well thanks to anonymity, my 'still in' family don't know this yet... .
after a whole day of watching various people describe their differences with creationist ideas, i'm finally watching this one.... it's tongue in cheek and is hilarious to watch....(this is not meant to mock people's belief in god as such, but more to do with how creationist speculation seems to go against openly available data).
i noticed that some of the arguments made by kent hovind, a creationist evangelist, smells very much like stuff i learned in 'life how did it get here by evolution or creation', and in other publications trying to explain why some phenomena in the solar system etc points to the precision in the universe = there must have been a divine hand... i assume he didn't get the information from jw's, so i wonder who jw's were getting their info from.... well thanks to sites like jwfacts, it's as clear as day anyway please don't watch if you're not ready to take in the copious amounts of data expressed to counter creationist claims... i'm only 20 minutes in and it's pretty devastating to creationist argument, the author of the video encourages each watcher to go do the math themselves where possible, stating even a high school education will give you enough tools to check out the figures and see if they add up.... (oops, that might be a problem for your die hard jw).

Thank you I will be checking it out. Your statement regarding how creationists arguments are similar to jws is exactly the experience I had. I have also noticed that atheists are often treated the same by their families as we are as ex jws. -

On respect for the belief of others. Sorry for the long post
by StarTrekAngel ini am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

At this point who cares. Eden one has left the building. This trivial going back and forth nonsense. Can we get back on topic. Respect of belief of others. Or is this the Damm Viv and Eden show. -

Eden I disagree with you more than I agree and yet I value your contribution. I hope all is well with your wife and family. I will just say that if your leaving for a dispute with one person among the throng here that don't, you should leave. For it shows your overly sensitive nature. I have read many of your posts and banter with her back and forth.
I have always thought of this as a forum of ideas, and cult escape. It has many different things for many different people, in various phases of their life. I have learned and continue to learn much here. If there is someone that is unyielding that is there problem. To me you are proving to be the unyielding one here.
If someone says rude things about me or my ideas I try to clarify and if it persists I ignore them. Wish others could do the same.

To quote Charlie Brown. "Good Grief. " The on and on about hurt feelings here sometimes is just astonishing. Simons reference to kindergartners is apt.
I have seen over and over again people pile up on Viv. She unfortunately suffers from being an intelligent woman that doesn't flower her words. So what dammit. Woman/Man who f'in cares. None of us should.
I don't know if anyone has said this yet. No one deserves respect. Especially for their beliefs. Disagreeing with a topic is not hijacking. You don't like it go sing cumbaya with your hippie commune freaks elsewhere.
To many of the threads that I have read here are full of asinine bullshit. To many damn bleeding hearts. Grow up already. I'm getting a little too pissed off for a Thursday night. This nonsense of respecting beliefs is similar to the pain I went through when waking up.
