Nina,
Thank you for sharing those darling pics. I loved the one where Moose had that wrinkled forehead and was contemplating whether he should take that step or not! Remington, my beagle, can do that same look so well. LOL
i was rather pleased with a few of these pics, so thought i would share: .

ok there are so many americans on the map now i had to split you all in half.. valis was kind enough to let me place the maps on his website until i found a new home for them.. photobucket seems to be a good option - at least for now.
so i have uploaded the new maps which have been updated to include everyone who has asked.. so if you were wondering where we are from.
or how close you are to other jwd posters in your area just take a look.
I'm in Illinois!
so i was reading through the website and i have a question... do they do any preaching or try to get people to join another religion?
i am considering possibly showing up to the convention but i won't go if they talk about god or jesus and make it into a big christian thing.
i'd love to go if it's more about meeting other xjws and sharing experiences but i do not like being preached at (for obvious reasons).
I live a couple of hours south of Chicago, and I went to the conference about 2 or 3 years ago. I really enjoyed it. I got to meet some of the people I'd seen online on various forums and really enjoyed it. Peter Gregerson used to go to one of the congregations I had also attended....although not at the same time as I did, so I enjoyed meeting them. And I saw someone I knew a child and hadn't seen for years, who also used to attend that former congregation, as well as an older couple who had known my parents as JWs many years ago. I even ended up seeing a married couple who used to be JWs in that same area and I was shocked to see them there at an XJW meeting. I, also, didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed the topics they spoke about. And, the best thing was that, unlike a JW convention, if you decided that you didn't want to attend part of it, no one thought you were 'spiritually weak'....LOL....you can come and go as you please and can feel totally welcomed. I don't know if I can make it up this year or not, but I would like to....maybe people from this forum will need to wear little "JWD" signs or something, so that we can ID fellow forum members. ha ha If nothing else, that is something that is so nice, to put faces to names. :-)

hi, guys.
i've occasionally lurked around here for a year or so but have visited more frequently lately so i thought it time i intro myself.
i was a 3rd gen jw, married to a jw for many years, divorced, remarried a non-jw, and am now raising little non-jw's.
Bryan,
Wow....small world, isn't it? I loved going to Kemah and eating oysters and drinking beer and watching the boats go in and out of the lake to the bay/gulf. We lived in League City for a while, but lived the longest in Webster. My ex-husband had lived there before and we moved there because of him, but with the only granddaughter at the time on all sides of the family...the 'guilt' made us move back up here to Illinos. I knew the Grays....if I remember right, they were in our congregation. My ex would know more of the people down there, since he had lived there for several years before that....and I didn't get to know too many there. My babysitter was Paris Hurd....she lived in League City, over near the high school, I believe.....over closer to the lake than us. When we were in League City, it was over to the west, on the other side of the I-45.

I lived down in Houston area for a couple of years....1992-1994.....down in the Clearlake/NASA area. Went to the KH in Dickinson....until started fading.
and his name is moose.
he's 9 weeks old, looks just like our dear departed dexter's baby pictures, and doesn't take any guff off ladybug.
after the initial shock of a wee thing following her everywhere, miss lady is starting to enjoy having a dog around who will actually play with her (dexter was very old when we got ladybug, and he was more inclined to growl and snap at her than play).
Nina,
Moose is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a fat beagle who also eats like a vacuum on speed....LOL....I loved the description, it fits my dog to a "T". I sometimes wonder if he ever really tastes what he eats or not. I wish I could hug that little guy...I love puppy kisses!
Sorry to hear about Dexter. I knew he wasn't well, but didn't know he passed.
~"Alana" (of the "Lover of all Dogs" class)
I hope they didn't kill the other dog....I'm such a dog lover, that I would hate to think of that happening. The owners seem like more of the problem than the dogs, even though the dogs are a problem. If the dogs are not trained correctly then the fault lies more with the humans. People like that should not be allowed to have dogs if they can't handle them or take responsibility if their dogs cause problems. My dogs are not perfect and have gotten out before, but at least I try to keep them on my property and have worked to train them to stay on our land and don't leave them out unsupervised. You know, even if they didn't care about you neighbors, which they obviously don't, they should think of their dogs own safety and want to keep them on their own land. Like I said, some people shouldn't have animals.....(or neighbors, for that matter, if they can't act any better than that..... :-) )

so i used to watch it when it based in the uk til 98. .
now i've been downloading the us version.
still as funny as ever, if a little less rude.
Our house LOVES that show.....the English version and the American!! It is great. I would love to see a live and uncensored version......that would be funny for sure!
i received news from an elder i know in another congregation.
he told me that things are changing in the way that bethel is running its operations.. i was informed that bethel no longer makes its own ink, but buys it from other companies.. even in the bethel kitchens, there is no more watchtower chicken - meat is bought from outside, this i believe also goes for milk and dairy products too.. can anyone confirm this?
i have reason to believe it is probably true.. i wonder what would happen if the wt suppliers go out of business?
Blondie,
Well, I don't know about the paper, but they DID make (or at least mix) their own ink at one time. My ex-husband was an "inkie" at Bethel in the early 80's. I just called him to make sure and he said that they did....and how it took forever after leaving Bethel to get all the last remnants of the ink off his hands, under his nails, etc. :-)

did you know that page 99 of "pay attention...." (the elders' manual) states that a person who has not associated for a while is basically exempt from discipline?
essentially if you attend a judicial hearing or respond to the elders you are admitting accountability to the "christian congregation.
" therefore, if you walk away from the congregation and simply ignore the elders for long enough and exert no influence on the members, they don't have to pursue you, even if they hear of serious sin.
I have (so far) been able to somewhat "fade". However, at times I worry about how long this will last. My father was a PO for many years and on the Convention Committees, etc., until he became ill and stepped down. I think sometimes that the elders from the last congregation I attended may have just let me fade, out of respect for my ill father. However, since his death last fall, I wonder if they will start up a witch hunt or something, especially since my fiancee was with me at my father's memorial service and some found out that I had moved....to the same town as him.....hmmmmm.....it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that we live together....it's an extremely small town. The last time that I was actually called on by any elders, was Christmas day 1999 (you can read the short story on FreeMinds.org, under "true stories", "Christmas Surprise 99 by the Elders").....and one time last year, before my move, a MS and another brother just happened to stop in while out in service, and he had no idea it was my house. Anyway.....after the Christmas 1999 incident, I followed the format of another x-brother online, and created a letter and sent it to the PO...basically, I stated that they did not speak with me that day and that they had no right to make any judicial decisions regarding myself, when it was only my husband (at the time) that they spoke with....in addition, I brought up the fact of the baptism vow language changes, and that I had not broken that vow, etc. I also quoted the section out of the "Pay Attention" book regarding those who have not attended recently and may not be know as a JW in the community and how they could hold such judicial concerns in abayence (or some word similar to that)....and, in other words, not act on anything unless that person attempts to once again become active, and then at that time confront them and perhaps take action. I stated that my case fit that category and I also stated that I had contacted legal counsel and that if my name were mentioned in a negative way from the stage or in anyway were people told to treat me differently, etc., that I would have the right to pursue charges against them for slander and/or libel....blah, blah, blah. I think they were surprised that I quoted the "Pay Attention" book, and probably assumed that I had help from my father (but it was all online assistance!). I did not hear from then again, but I have always felt that it was primarily due to respect for my father. I have attended two JW funerals since that time and some treated me fine and some didn't, and in public when I do see a JW, half of the time they shun me, but the elders have not pursued anything since that time. However, since my father's funeral, I am just holding my breath, because as someone else said, they do just want they want.....they may have the right to just ignore someone who hasn't been active for years, but that doesn't mean they have to.....I have heard stories of witch hunts, where some have been out for many years and suddenly they are approached for a Judicial Committee meeting and are subsequently DF'd or DA'd. That has been my experience.....so far....... "Alana"
