  Moshe visits a KH today- did he walk out or was he thrown out?

  i walked in about 10 minutes prior to the start of the meeting- i sure looked like an unusual visitor wearing my best jeans a golf shirt and my yarmulke.. the first brother who approached me was an slighly built late middle age guy- he gave me a big hello and extended his hand.

  i pulled out my 'end of false religion tract' and showed it to him.

  "did you put this in my door?

  GO MOSHE!!

  The first time I did something like this was almost 20 years ago and it was like going into a bat cave- scary until you realize they are more afraid of you. It must be unsettling to a JW to see Jehovah allowing apostates to just waltz into their KH and get the upper hand over them. They talk tough in thier publications, but in reality they are not. Life in FS must be getting harder for them as the tract campaign last year was primarily just a way to find some easy pickings for Bible studies, while keeping the publishers away from the homes of informed opposers who could burst their bubble.

  I remember Moshe from when we temporarily attended the congregation he went to many many moons ago. We were helping that congregation and then we went back to our own congregation. Later I remember my mom telling me about how he 'went crazy' and how he was tormenting the poor brothers and sisters, and how he must be totally controlled by Satan....blah, blah, blah. My mom is pretty meek and mild and I bet if he would have come up to her and spoken she would have fainted out of sheer fear! The elders are afraid.....to look bad, not have real answers, be proven wrong, or lose their 'followers'.

  while i am paying this bill, i believe that this charge is incredibly excessive.

  $93.50 of this bill is for a uroflowmetry, complex test.

  IMHO, I think it could be seen at first as a bit rude, but it reflect your frustration at the situation....which I understand totally.

  I have worked in the healthcare administration industry for over 20 years, I can assure you that I've seen such frustration many times over the years. But, it's not 100% the doctor's fault. Exwitless is correct in what she stated and most people do not realize how much the government and regulations are involved in what you are billed from the doctor. Also, the doctor doesn't choose to call that procedure a "surgery". All medical services must follow specific coding guidelines and the billing code for that service falls into the code range for "surgery". Many times there are things involved in tests or procedures, which may look quite simple, which the patient may not realize that comes into play. The fees are to include various factors such as equipment, overhead, and many other factors. Sometimes what may look simple to the patient may actually involve more complex factors behind the scenes, so to speak. There are many factors which affect the fees which providers may bill and governmental regulations which control how doctors can no longer just accept as payment what the insurance alone pays without billing the patient for any co-payments, coinsurance, or deductibles.

  I'm sorry for your frustration and understand it 100% and I think that the doctor's office should take your concerns the correct way and not be offended, but they may not have much control as to what they can do to change the situation. And, give the coding and fee regulations, you will probably find the same or similar situation with any other provider you see for that service.

  I hope it all works out for you and especially works out with your health, not just your bill. :-)

  Depression...

  i was reading another thread discussing bi-polar disorder.

  i have a situation close to me that concerns me and i don't quite know what to do.

  a person i know who has been under treatment (medication only) for depression has been under alot of stress.

  I was reading another thread discussing bi-polar disorder. I have a situation close to me that concerns me and I don't quite know what to do. A person I know who has been under treatment (medication only) for depression has been under alot of stress. In addition their doctor was wanting to change the medication. Turns out the new meds can cause or increase anxiety and this person apparently had anxiety problems which the other medication apparently helped. Anyway, their doctor added her old medication back in, but she has "bottomed out" more than once over the past couple of weeks. I don't know what I can do to help. Something can set her off into crying, she says she feel numb and worthless, and sometimes cries for whoever is with her (usually her husband) to not leave her because she's not perfect and people who aren't perfect are rejected, etc. Her husband loves her to pieces and wouldn't leave her, but he doesn't know what to do and I'm at a loss as to what to say, except call her doctor or a mental health person. She doesn't see things that aren't there, but sometimes says that she can hear her own voice in her mind sometimes repeating the same word over and over or telling her she worthless. That made me very concerned. To see her from the outside, however, she seems fine and people would probably describe her as easy going, happy, laid back, etc. But, apparently inside she is in turmoil and I'm afraid she's a volcano about to erupt. Anyone experience anything like this? Any suggestions?

  I'm mad as hell (New Here)

  i'm brand spanking new to this forum.... my story is a long one that i will save for rainy day....however i will say i have been out for a long time 10+ years and when i left i really left.

  i walked away at 20 (in my heart i was mentally gone at 17) and never really looked back much.

  i was raised jw my father was an elder my mother an off and on pioneer (my father is no longer except he goes to the memorials, poor bastard and again thats another long story) i was not shunned by my parents both of whom were still very much in although my father left shortly after me and i would like to think that my bravery and courage allowed him to do the same.

  Welcome to the Board! Your mom sounds a bit like mine, in the sense that she can't really express what SHE thinks or believes without getting flustered and having to say that she believes how "the Society" does.....my mom is in her 80's now and after having her decisions made for her and her beliefs indoctrinated in her for over 50 years now, I truly don't think she knows HOW to think on her own anymore. It's really such a pity.

  (this thread is inspired in part by fifi40's thread about battling her ex-husband in letting their son go see the new hp movie.).

  still having contact with jw family and some jw friends that i grew up with, it's interesting to see their reaction when conversations come up about the hp books and movies.. my jw mother-in-law snorted and grunted her disapproval and locked herself in her bedroom while visiting while i was watching one of the movies.

  i was watching it when she came in from shopping with other family members and i wasn't about to turn it just because she was in the room.. my brother, dfd but not free of the control of the wts, expressed shock that i had read all the books and commented on them being "demonic".

  My JW mom used to cringe if there was talking about HP, but now she doesn't even flinch. It's not for her and if I were an active JW she would probably not act so indifferent, but we've pretty much come to the agreement that I'm not going back and she's accepted me and my family for what we are and do (including asking what we got for B-days, Xmas, etc.).

  My ex-mother-in-law, however, won't let you even utter the name HP in her house and once made my daughter leave her book out on the front porch when she came over to visit. She will leave the room if a TV show focuses too much on any of the HP hype. (Can you say "fanatical"????)

  JW's are not alone, though, in being so 'afraid' of HP. A school mate of my daughter attends a non-denomination church and her family is extremely anti-HP. When they showed the movie one day at school (for a fun day) the girl had to leave the room. (Boy, did that bring back memories....ugh.)

  Anyway, my daughter busted her on how hypocritical is was that they loved and had all the Disney movies, Lord of the Rings, and other fantasy-type movies which included any kind of magic or whatever. The girl loves the legend of King Arthur, so my daughter asked her what was the difference between that fantasy with Merlin and HP. The girl had no response and finally just flat told everyone to leave her alone and that HP was evil and nothing would change their minds.

  I can't stand the hypocriticalness of those who bash HP, but love other fantasy or magical stories, movies, or TV shows!!!!

  I have tried to compose several replies, this is probably my 4th, but Mary basically said my thoughts in a nutshell. If there is malicious intent directly specifically at someone, then that is one thing, but people can innocently use phrases or words that may be offensive to some and not to others. Sometimes it can be a matter of regional or cultural differences that may result in words or actions that may be taken offensively. That is where balance and tolerance and understanding is needed. Any word or description has the potential to be demeaning or insulting if used in such a way. So, I think we all need to keep in mind the intent of words spoken.

  Being of the blonde persuasion and being 1/2 Polish, heaven knows how many jokes or comments I've heard....but I haven't taken offense because I know the intent was not to harm. Perhaps that is because it was from friends or people with whom I felt comfortable and I think that in online communities we sometimes have that same feeling of familiarity and since we don't really know everyone and their actual life experiences, sometimes we don't realize that things we say could be interpreted in the incorrect manner. Not everyone has the same level of what is offensive and we can't expect everyone to think the same as we do or be offended by the same words. I don't like the N- word, but I've had black friends who used the N- word, but would be offended if a white person used it. While I may not think the same, that is their thought on the matter.

  My daughter uses the phrase "that's retarded" all the time, but that is not any kind of slam to people of special needs. In fact, she is very caring and gets upset and vocal if others do make fun of or laugh at people with any kind of disability....because it is used to intentional hurt someone. So, to me it's not so much the word or words, but the intent that should be looked at before we take offense. How many times may we have made the comment that someone was "crazy"? I'm sure it was not with the intent to be as a slam to people with mental health issues or hurt the families of those loved ones with mental health issues. Yet, it could be taken in that way to some. I think we all need to look beyond the words or phrases and look at the intent of the person who uses the words and sometimes just overlook these indescrecions and then also hope that others will do the same with us when we may inadvertly hurt others with words or actions.

  Just my thoughts.....

  Rollerdave returns to the KH!

  well folks, it had to happen, i returned to the kingdom hall.. or at least to its parking lot.. but not to worry my little jwd'ers, my return was in true rollerstyle!.

  i had dropped off my mom a few days previous when she made some remarks that steamed me, i had felt she was talking through her teeth, but i now know i could only have been half right.. she calls and rambles a while, then directs me to keep her teeth safe.

  after i got the explanation for this cryptic remark from her i go and investigate..... there, on my bathroom counter, next to the tushie-cleanliness paraphernalia, is an unexplained white plastic container which contained my mother's lower plate.. smelled 'minty.'.

  Jigsaw puzzles anyone?

  i love them.

  there was a time when i always had one on a large cardboard that i could push under the sofa when i needed the table.

  believe me they helped my sanity during my last few years as a dub.. i had to give them up when i got cats because they thought all those nice little puzzle pieces were cat-sized hockey pucks.

  I go to jigzone just about everyday....it is totally addicting! You can also upload your own pictures/graphics to make your own jigsaw puzzles. That is really cool, too.

  As for the 3-D puzzles....I tried one once....the Titantic. It was fun until my beagle (who was a puppy then) thought it was something to try to eat! Then, once you lose base parts, you are pretty much finished. LOL
