You know, regarding the cross......that might be an older photo from a time when she may not have yet been a JW....like during her 'modeling' time. YIKES!....which could possibly mean she no longer looks a good as that, either! That's the thing with online dating, you just never know if they look like the pic.

JWs and Stronger Marriages?
by Pubsinger ina bit of a follow on from the "honesty" thread.. another claim that jws make is that they have stronger marriages and are less likely to divorce.. try writing down all the jw couples that you know of that have divorced.. there are bonus points for those who didnt make 2yrs!.
i think you will be shocked at the number you can come up with.
we came up with 60 couples in less than 20mins.

Well, I fit into that catagory.....TWICE!
My first marriage lasted about 3 years and I honestly thought it was a wonderful one....we were both children of Elders/PO's. But, he wasn't happy with "the Truth", etc. When we divorced, back in 1987, I could count on one hand the number of JWs who were divorced....it was unheard of in this area and boy did it have the gossip mills churning.
Of course, I was "used material" and not exactly the best marrying material amongst JWs then. Well, I did actually happen to find a brother who would consider marrying a divorced JW. That marriage lasted 10 years....but we were both unhappy and knew that we married for the wrong reasons, but stayed together because we felt we 'had to'.
Over the years, though, I have noticed hearing about more and more JW divorces....and I ALWAYS knew about the many, many unhappy marriages that continued on just because it's the "right" thing to do according to the WTS.
My personal opinion, also, is that many JWs marry for the wrong reasons.....not so much because they have found their best friend or soul mate. You aren't given the opportunity to truly get to know someone with all the 'rules' they have. In fact, I knew one sister whose FIRST KISS ever to her husband was during the wedding ceremony....they were never alone once to even discuss important things like kids, their feelings, their families, etc. They weren't allowed to. No surprise that they divorced...only surprise is that it lasted as long as it did.
Now, in the "real world" -- which, by the way is not as horrible and scary as I was taught to believe -- I've found that you can meet people and have a relationship for the RIGHT reasons. Just my 2 cents....

Elder School and trained to believe about c.1980
by thewiz ini have only suspicions about this, and an elder at the hall over 2 -1/2 years ago tipped me off to this and kind of semi-verified my long held suspicions.
i never did get to elder school or even ms school because i never kissed enough ass, so i can't emphatically prove it myself.. he basically inferred or implied that nearly all the wtb&ts late 20th century problems had something to do with the "great" apostacy (witch hunt) of c.1980.. i have also talked to my brother-in-law about this matter a couple of times and he seems to be of the same bend or thinking.
it's kind of like the borginazational culture that everyone "believes" or it's "known" that the troubles were rooted out when ray franz and friends were booted.. .

My father was the PO for many years, and was the Assembly Overseer for the entire Circuit, so he went to all those Elders' Schools, etc. Anyway, while I have nothing in writing per se, I do remember him saying almost the exact thing. He said that it was 'those Apostates and Ray Franz' who tried to slip things into the literature to mislead and cause divisions in these "last days", but that they were discovered and ousted....but that after that, faithful ones would need to be careful at what they read regarding 'old information', etc. So, rather than the Society having to take the blame for things, in my opinion, they found scapegoats to take the blame.

I went to the conference 2 years ago, when it was also held in Itasca, IL. It was my first time actually meeting other online XJWs in person. It was wonderful!
I hope to also attend this year....as I live in IL, if I can swing it. When I was there 2 years ago and I met people who I knew as a child, as well as a couple who knew my parents many, many years before. Also, a family arrived late, who were actually once in my own congregation when I attended years before....they had been looking things up on the internet and ran across the site telling about the conference. It was cool to meet them again.
It made things feel so much better, seeing and speaking with others who could relate to my situation....as well as hearing some of the people speak. If anyone gets a chance to go, I highly recommend it. Before the conference, I think I'll check to see how many on this board may be there...so, if I make it, I can know who to look for!! :-D

<<Does anybody remember Don and Florence Sparks. Matt & Steve are their sons (Matt has about 5 kids in teens now), or Sue Stailey (& husband, Jack & 5 kids). Stailey son is PO in Kokomo cong.
Florence brought me into the org - but she's still a fine lady. Any old Auto Trim Design people here - or Trim Line people? Lots of them in the Indy area>>Yes, I remember Don and Florence. I liked them. I knew Mark Staley...he has a pilot's license and once he got about three of my friends from Irvington Cong together and they flew over here to Champaign IL...just to go out and eat chinese with me and then flew back. I thought that was so cool....
OMG....Trim Line!! I had forgotten all about that! Yes, it seemed like there were a million brothers in Indy and surrounding areas. My ex husband's cousin was all into that.....oh, the memories!! LOL

I can't believe it! I got delayed and didn't make it home in time for Dateline. I had, just in case, set my VCR to begin recording....BUT....I had the time set for 8:00pm (I'm in the Central Time Zone). So, I DID start to record the Basketball game....
I am sooooooo UPSET! My boyfriend, who is trying to understand all this XJW stuff had to work and really wanted to see the show, too.
Did anyone happen to record the show? Would anyone happen to be able to make me a copy? I will provide a tape and pay postage....whatever it takes to get a copy. I am very pissed right now.
PLEASE HELP!?!?!?!?

Is anyone on the forum from Illinois?
by Leander inthis site has been a source of tremendous encouragement for me.
i've been able to truly learn quite a bit since i've started coming here.
i've also found the courage that i need which will help me walk away from the jw organization in the very near future.

I'm from IL.....central IL. I have family (non-JW) all over the Chicagoland area. Is that where you other IL folk are from? Any of you going to the BRCI conference in June? It's being held at the Wyndham in Itasca. I went to it there 2 years ago and it was really nice to meet other XJWs in person....it was worth the drive. Just curious if I might see any faces from this board there?

My district overseer in Arizona
by Preston inbrother emsahw (i think that's how his name was spelled) was my district overseer.
he was also the most flamboyantly effeminate higher-upper of any witness i came across (yeah, yeah...i know).
for many witnesses he was eccentric, from my standpoint, well, you know...

My oh my....did Bro. Emshoff get around or what?!? He was our CO for a spell here in IL. He used to stay in our home when he was visiting our congregation. He didn't like our Circuit because we were a bit too 'rural' for his likes.....he liked cities and loved to play in Chicago when he'd visit here (he seemed to know an awful lot about "Rush Street" in Chicago....party street of downtown...because I slipped in talking about it....but he never told on me and I never told on him...LOL). My dad knew he liked a nightcap every night, so he said he'd buy him what he drank...and my dad, not being a drinker or familiar with alcohol, about died when he went to buy his Crown Royal. LOL I always got a kick out of that, but probably just because of my dad's reaction. Ahhhh, the memories......
