I donated the good ones to goodwill and threw out the others. I kept one for work. Hey you guys....remember those big bulky square bags that the elders carried into the hall and set next to their chair in the aisle?? It was kind of like whoever carried the biggest bag was the most important! Right? I hardly ever recall any of them, including the ex, ever pull much out of them either, ha ha.

Just curious, what have some of you done with your exspensive book bags?
by Singing Man ini use my book bag to store my computer soft ware in its perfect for that.
and as for all the old issues of magazines i used them to start my wood stove on those cold mornings.
one time i asked for a lot of older issues from the friends so i could use them to line the bottom of my camp tent, they were more than happy to give them to me.

Taking stock of my blessings....
by Dawn ini've been df'd for a number of years, and up until recently have been able to maintain a fairly close relationship with my parents.
dad passed away a few years back and since then i have tried to keep my mom busy so she wouldn't be alone - phone calls, shopping, dinner, etc - and i took care of things around her house for her.
well now mom has decided that she needs to follow the wt rules and cut the "socializing" with me - of course, it's "acceptable" for me to still go take care of her when she needs it .

It so good that you have such a good outlook. It is a blessing that you will still be able to help her though. My parents informed me that I am not welcome in their house. When I drop off my daughter for a visit, I don't even get out of the car. They even refused to be at our (worldly) family reunion if I was there. So at least you can feel good that you can still be there for your mom and have the opportunity to show her your love.

Does anyone else still get Armaggeddon Nightmares!!
by Lainey ini haven't posted for a few weeks as i have been back at work busy beavering away, however as it is my day off i thought i would see if anyone else has the same trouble that i have, and also if there is anything they have found useful.. i have always had trouble eating properly and sleeping ever since my early teen years, but over the past couple of years or so (even though i know i don't believe the watchtower teachings anymore) i have at least 3 or 4 times a week, the most vivid awful nightmares about armaggeddon, and the different ways that jehovah is going to destroy me because of my wickedness.
i wake up in tears and shaking with fear, and then i am not able to get back to sleep, i just lie awake until the morning not daring to close my eyes.. i can't believe that as a grown woman, the watchtower teachings keep coming back to haunt me.. lainey.
ps can i also thank all the posters for the kind personal messages that i have received since i came here

I used to get them, but not for awhile now. I think I used to get them more when I was still in the "I hope I did the right thing by leaving" phase. But the longer I am gone, the more sure I am that I did the right thing. Maybe that is why I don't get them anymore

what defines your life now?
by franklin J inas a jehovahs witness, our lives were clearly "defined".
for those of us who are no longer in the "truth", what "drives" your life now?.
for me, it is my kids ( 12, 9, 4--busy--busy--busy) ; my wife; my career; i live by my own personal value system ( tried, tested and working).. the absence of the superimposed restrictive grid of the jw lifestyle has allowed my life to blossom.

Great subject...
For me, I would have to say that the word "UNCONDITIONAL" sums it up for me now. I have finally found unconditional love with my fiance (never a witness, thank god). I keep showing unconditional love to my daughter (which is finally producing results). I now have great friends...because we all care about each other unconditionally. I guess that sums it up...

i lived with my parents just so they could talk to me.

Hi Unclejoe...I am df'd for about 4 years now. So glad to meet you. I agree that you did it the right way. At least you can still talk to your parents. I am totally shunned...they don't even ask my daughter (not baptized) how I am. My little bro just got married last weekend, daughter went, and cried because they did not even ask how I was or say anything like "I wish Deb was here" etc. At least you won't have things like that to deal with. Glad to have you here!

Simplify the Holidays
by jgnat inmy daughter is seriously thinking of cancelling christmas this year.
after spending so much time with you guys, i begged her to reconsider.
i think she does not realize what she is missing unless she was part of an organization that told her she must never celebrate this holiday again.. to her defence, i know she is overwhelmed by the obligations of the season.
