I just had a 40 minute discussion with two jw's. I told them I really can't believe Jesus was ever an angel. I showed them Rev 22:12-21. I told him that clearly states Jehovah and Jesus are both called Alpha and Omega. Then I talked about how it says not to add or take away anything from the bible. Then went to John 1:1. Then opened my Kingdom Interlinear Translation my father sent me and showed him how it was originally translated. The woman was totally dumb, but the guy kept wanting to talk to me. They want to call back on me and I said fine!!! PC

Jesus, name or title?

during period that the gospels were written jewish and samaritan apocalyptic sects revived the ot character joshua as the archetypical agent of salvation and conquerer of jewish enemies.

there in fact were groups that could rightly be called "joshua cults" that centered upon these apocalyptic anticipations and the character.

some would be liberators of the first century imaged themselves after the ot stories, reinacting the joshua story in some detail or promising to do so.

JW Get-togethers

do you have any good memories of jw get-togethers?

a lot of my good memories of them have tarnished with age.

i vaguely remember them.

This really brings back memories. I grew up on Long Island, NY, we use to have these great picnics with everyone. We all played ball and had lots of food. It was the only time we felt like everyone else. I even brought a couple of worldly friends once in awhile. My dad was the PO at the time. Then they changed to the elders. The new guy put a total cabash on picnics. (Is that how you spell cabash)? lol pc

The colour of grey

i've been dropping in to the board since being d'fd a month ago and have been very encouraged by the posts and they way everyone has been able to move on since leaving the collective.. being a 5th generation, it was always very hard for me to imagine life life outside the truman show bubble.

having a huge extended family who are all believers means that i now have virtually nil social contacts.. soon to be divorced, the only contact i have with my past life is weekend visits from my 7 year old boy and 9 year old girl.

"Because They're A Cult"........

yesterday, a business associate asked me why jws would not celebrate a birthday, a bar mitzvah, or any other holiday.

he asked why they literally believed only 144,000 go to heaven.

he asked how they could celebrate everything 1 year and the next year, tell their families that everything is pagan........my answer to all of his questions, were "it's because they're a cult.

I really had to LOL when I read this. That is what I say to everyone I meet about JWs. I preface my statements with

"I was raised in a cult".

People then ask

"were you a Moonie"?

Then I proceed to explain every single thing about JWs. What they do, how they lie, and especially how they break up families. (I explain it's the organization not most of the people). PC

Need help and advice.

i have been having discussions with my brother who is an elder and his wife.

we are very close.

my sister in law wants to have a bible discussion with me.

Wanted to let everyone know I had the bible discussion yesterday. My whole thing was I do not believe Jesus was an angel. So we used about seven different bibles to reference. If you can believe this, it went incredibly well. The most amazing thing was right at the end of our discussion I showed them Revelation 22: 12-21. I then asked them who was speaking, they responded Jesus. I showed them the reference Alpha and Omega. I explained to them that is why, in my opinion, God and Jesus as the same. I think they were both dumbfounded. They said that they would check it out and get back to me.

I realize alot here are no more invovled with religion and that's fine, I just wanted you to know what happened and thank everyone for all their help. PC
