Great Crowd vs. Other Sheep

would someone briefly help me understand the divide that exist between the great crowd and the remnant, 144,000 who go to heaven?

what scriptural backing does the society use to justify their position that they are the only ones who are able to enjoy a covenant relationship with jesus christ, where those of the " great crowd " are only granted a relationship through extension through the 144,000?.

i've been around the truth for a large portion of my life, never really knowing this was an issue.

JW Literature-why not public?

this might be old hat to those of you with more experience in the wts/witness life, but it struck me as very odd, perhaps even a bit sinister.

i started coming here so i could find out just what my wife was getting herself into.

on my first day here, i learned about the blood doctrine, and that was enough to convince me.

Answers began coming to me, ugly answers like control of information, secrecy, increased profit, hidden and/or ulterior motives, all summed up in one word. CULT. It gave me a really creepy feeling. Is there some logical explanation of this that I just don't know as a non-witness? Or is it really a bad indicator like I am thinking?

A very good observation from a fresh pair of eyes outside the WTS.

Proverbs 31:6,7—can you elaborate on that?

My pleasure. The words of Lem'uel's mother at Proverbs 31: 1-7, particularly verses 6 and 7, along with the record of Moses making up his own rules for divorce as part of the Law (Deuteronomy 24: 1-4 / Matthew 19: 7and 8) as well as the Apostle Paul imposing his own restrictions on women (1Corinthians 14: 34 and 35, 1Timothy 2: 9-15), IMO are clear evidence of purely human reasoning, not at all from God or His Son, not directly nor indirectly and are certainly not priciples to live by. These 'scriptures' show the popular belief that the Bible, in its entirety, as being the "Word of God" to be wrong.

we had a visiting speaker come to our hall yesterday.

he was a missionary from liberia (whoopie) but he was talking about the danger he faces everyday just to go our in field service from rebels, gangs, the military.

he lived in a hut with no electricity, no running water.

I'm convinced they parade these people around to ~~manipulate~~ motivate the congregations. IMO, every thing the WTS does is carefully calculated.

They refuse to accept that Jehovah teaches his people through his faithful and discreet slave class of anointed Christians

Classic manipulation. I'm sure the Scribes and Pharisees spoke the same way.

The understanding of divine truth has always been progressive (Proverbs 4:18)

Classic contradiction! Which is it? God teaching them to teach us or men using biased reasoning to interpret God's will? And how about Proverbs 31: 6 and 7? Is it a bible principle, the Word of God? Or purely human reasoning?

The GB, and the apostle Paul knew Jesus condemed the Scribes and Pharisees for imposing their taditions on God's people, yet both Paul and the GB are guilty of doing it also...So much for following Christ's example!

please, huge warning, if you're an angry ex-jw, save your bs advice, i dont' need to hear you put jw's down just to give advice.. i was raised a jw & am still bitter over injustice growing up at the hands of my elder father, and bitter over the abuse of my ex-husband.. i miss my fam, i miss peace, i miss a sense of belonging.

any advice on how to gain inner peace w/o selling myself out?.

You Ginger, like us, are ligitimately angry.
Elders / men / husbands are taught by the Governing Body that they are 'the' authority in the Congregation and in their households being divinely appointed. This often swells them with pride which will cause them to become guilty of doing exactly what Jesus said should not be done...lording it over others, whether in the congregation or in the family. (I was very guilty of this myself)
Jehovah's modern people are very much like His ancient people, especialy during Jesus time. You were either totaly 'loyal' to the Truth as the Scribes and Pharisees saw it or you were an outcast. Jehovah's people today have become very un-loving in how they treat anyone who questions the status quo and doesn't tow the line as expected. Independant thinking is viewed as evil and rebelious. All individuality must be surrendered. Free spirits must conform. Any resistance means your not humble, have become hardend or an apostate...which means you will be marked by all and shunned.
Maintain a strong relationship with Jehovah on your own, express yourself freely to Him in prayer, be totaly honest with Him in what you like, dislike, want and need. See the Organization as it really is...warts and all. Don't be an apologist for the Society, be true to yourself, remember how Jesus condemed the Organization of His day. Accept that you wont be popular with the congregation but that you are loved by Jehovah and Jesus.

SHOULD I PIONEER OR COLLEGE?

do you think the wt has become more lenient or stricter over the year?.

i am 21 and i remember just 4 years ago going to college was looked at as something negative.

girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.

College definately...Pioneer later if you want, but definately college now.

Remember, thinking for yourself is not a sin or rebellious. It is a approved God given freedom. The Narrow road is not so narrow and cramped as to prevent us from moving at all.

its been my opinion that when responcibility for the war on terror gets turned over to the u.n. they will in time conclude (with god's help) that 'religion' is the main problem and has to be eliminated.. what do you think?

We definately don't agree on this for the most part. Liberals who make the news often have a double standard, they assert that Islam should be respected but routinely trash Christianity in any form. The reason IMO is that Christianity in this country as well in the rest of the western world has asserted itself as the moral authority in life not just socialy but politicaly for many years being very active in government elections and legislation. So it has come to be viewed by the Left as an enemy to be defeated. Where as Islam, until recently, has been quietly operating in the U.S and the west by staying under the radar politicaly.

Paragraphs 17 and 18 comment on this but not a mention of the UN, except indirectly: "The wild beast and its image" are symbols of human rulership, which does not acknowledge Jehovah's sovereignty.
But elsewhere the WTS has identified this image of the wild beast as the UN. Looks like the WTS is trying to hide this information or back off from it.

Your probably right, like 1914 and the Last Generation they're backing away from what I believe to be very correct bible insights. IMO they're losing faith because of the lateness of the hour and are forgetting what Jesus said, " On this account you too prove yourselves ready, because at an hour you do not think to be it, the Son of man is coming." Matthew 24: 44
