when i was a teenager, one of my friends started dating a jw.
he "wasn't into his religion, just his parents were.
" she ended up pregnant, quit school to get married and after that, we pretty much only saw her standing on street corners or in mcd's on sunday mornings after meetings, with her (3 i think) little boys all dressed up in their shirts and ties.
I'm thinking the son was probably DFd/DAd/shunned and the worldly side of the family is making a show of support for him...on the other hand, maybe I'm reading too much into it and seeing shadows that aren't really there. What do you think?---Deb
You could be right. The JW's now shun 'at will.' So it could be he's just fallen out of favor for some reason, like low meeting attendance. Sad isn't it?

after 1994-95 "generation change" and 1999 "being hit by hurricane and no wt/brothers help".
i had serious doubts.
What reasons would the holy spirit have in nominating me, since I am "apostate in heart"?
I believe that Holy Spirit was involved in Elder appointments only during the first century to help the congregation get on its feet. Since then, like the miracles, it has ceased being a factor in Elder selection. IMO
Also, what makes you so sure you have an apostate heart? Thinking for yourself? Questioning the Society? Disagreeing with the Society? None of that is apostate.

Its approaching that for me. Although I love and miss them, while they're still drinking the Kool Aid it's better we're apart. Their condecension toward me is very disrespectful and angers me greatly! I'm sure one day they'll wake up and realize their error. In the meantime I live my life as happily as I can.
during a quiet moment at work the other night, i picked up a back issue of o magazine, one of the current quintessentially authoritative journalistic voices of the modern north american woman.
it was the december 2003 issue, and i was intrigued by the title of the article: "the halo effect" which promised to examine the condition of 'being too good' for one's own good.
the preamble contained the phrase "self-sacrificing" and i was immediately zapped by that standard jw buzz-word and the article's suggestion that being "self-sacrificing" is not all it's cracked up to be.. you can read the article here: stop seeking approval.

Some of us fear that if we begin voicing disagreement, we'll lose our friends and family. If this is true for you? if these people accept you only because you agree with everything they say?they're not friends or family , they're just customers from whom you regularly obtain your favorite drug. This is a thoroughly unhealthy situation.

thirty years ago, the watchtower society was predicting that the world would soon.
fall apart ( truth book, pg 89).
in particular, they proclaimed that the world would be overcome.
You can read the Nov. 15, 2004 Watchtower for confirmation, page 23 " Let us never urge fellow Christians who are pioneers, missionaries, traveling overseers, or members of the Bethel family to discontinue their full time service simply to return to a so-called normal life."
It's obvious that there is a problem they're trying to control here.

I don't see anything about unquestioningly trusting the GB/Annointed in these scriptures...Once again, they're guilty of using faulty connective reasoning to manipulate and empower themselves over the congregation.
Therefore, when confronted with those who voice apostate ideas, we want to do what God?s Word states: "Keep your eye on those who cause divisions and occasions for stumbling contrary to the teaching that you have learned, and avoid them ." (Romans 16:17; Titus 3:10).
Titus 3:10 says to avoid anyone who 'promotes a sect.' The congregation will of course interpret this as 'anyone' who questions the Organization!
We will remember Paul?s further advice to Timothy: "They will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things ." (2 Timothy 2:22; 4:3-5) No matter how smooth the voice of strangers may seem, we flee from all that would subvert our faith. ?Psalm 26:5; Proverbs 7:5,21: Revelation 18:2,4.
Keep your senses??? ...Except when it comes to scrutinizing or questioning anything that comes from 'God's Spirit Directed Organization' and SHUN ANYONE and EVERYONE who does!

No, I don't. The ONLY 'Hands Off' situation for me is if they are married. If she is not interested, she will tell me.
jehovahs witnesses look to their watchtower magazine each week for new light that would set the course for current "truth".
in looking back over the last 40 years of my association, "new lights" batteries ran out many times and had to be replaced with even newer ones.
some how this made sense to me at the time, but as time past, i began to wonder just how these "new light" articles could be called meat in due season.
The lights went out for thousands of Witnesses in 1914, 1925, etc.etc.etc. Each time the announced END didn't come the brothers packed up their spiritual bags and hit the road. Been there, Done that.
I think we can agree on this...Regardless when the End comes, we should be living in a way that we'll gain the approval of God's Son when ever He arrives or if we 'pass on,' when He performs the Resurrection.

I guess it bothers me because I get REAL OFFENDED when people question my spirituality.
I never liked it either. The sanctimonious and proud are the ones who question us. They should be more concerned about the 'rafter' in their own eye than the straw in ours!
