Looking forward to Armageddon?

my eldest daughter (21) said something that stopped me in my tracks yesterday.

we were busy wrapping christmas presents (yes, we've started early this year) for her younger siblings.

then she started laughing and said: 'isn't it nice to have christmas, birthdays, easter, bonfire night, halloween etc to look forward to instead of only looking forward to armageddon!'.

All that time and attention thinking about them, and what they individually want and need and then all the the fun... That's joy and love in action.

We did that. Just because we didn't do things around the popular calendar dates didn't mean we didn't focus love, attention, good times AND gifts on them. I will admit though a calendar date is helpful. It was a challenge not to get caught up and distracted by the minutia of life. The months with 5 paydays in them is were where we planned gift giving since our budget was based on a 4 payday month. I'll admit, because we lived on a shoestring it didn't always go as we wanted too, but that was our plan.

Yes, I am looking forward to it.

I do though believe the Great Crowd will be much greater than the WTS believes. God reads hearts and I'm sure He will not overlook anyone deserving where ever on the earth they may be. While I wait for it I do 'feel' for all those suffering around the world. I also put Birthdays, Mothers Day and Fathers Day back ON my calender but all the religious Holidays I have not and wont be.

Which aspect of JWs would you like to see a documentary about?

if you had a chance to make a documentary about some aspect of the jws, what would ou choose?

would you talk about shunning, the blood issue, explain how its a cult, or what?

unfortunately this would only be for an 8 minute segment on a current affairs programme so i need something that'll get peoples attention and make them think without having to go too deep into the subject.. what would you choose to talk about?.

CULT definately!

I would use them as an example of a well organized world wide cult, breaking down the tatics of the controling JW mentality and culture for all to see, so people would understand who exactly it is knocking on their doors.

Very confused, please help!

i am not a witness, however my life has been greatly affected by the religion.

my mother was disfellowshipped before i was born, and therefore has no contact with any family members.

i on the other hand have occaisional contact to my other witness family members and i love all dearly.

We do not need to memorize an extensive code of rules to direct our every act-- because the elders and other "mature" ones at the KH will be sure you find out how long your hair can be, sideburn length, beards or not, ear piercings, skirt length, preferred car to own, how big your house can be and stay spiritual, what "necessary business" means in regard to DF'd family members, while no hour quota--what constitutes the national average that must be maintained to be "spiritual," college or not, that there are rules for the elders and rules for publishers, etc.

If you were a JW in 1978, you couldn't get an organ transplant without being disfellowshipped, now it is your personal choice. What will change in the future; will it be God changing or the WTS?

The WTS is an organization with 2 books; what appears in black and white in the WT publications and the unwritten rules that become apparent as a person attends a local congregation.
Oh, and there is one other book, the Bible, that they claim they use to base both books on. Will the WTS stand up to an audit by Jesus (or God)?

ANYBODY STILL HAVE A WITNESS MENTALITY?

o.k so i am living the "double life" i suppose.

but its funny how sometimes i still catch myself doing or saying things that only a "really spiritual" preason would.

like the other day when i saw a cute tank top on sale but it said "libra" on it.

I have been working on understanding the differances between being a faithful Christian worshiper of Jehovah and a loyal Witness. The clear differance to me is the loyal Witness accepts all the human rules and reasoning from the Society as coming from God Himself...I no longer do this. What I now do is scrutinize the 'teaching' with the Bible using my God given critical thinking to determine what really is the truth of the matter and is pleasing / approved of God and then I live my life in good conscience accordingly. I do believe the core beliefs of the Witnesses to be correct and hold to those.

Such as:

Jehovah is not a trinity.
Jesus is God's first creation.
The Angelic rebellion is the source of all our troubles.
The Great Tribulation and Armageddon are literal and coming.
God will use the worlds governments to destroy world religion.
The Thousand Year reign is real.
The Resurrection is the only hope for the dead.
The Little Flock will be a literal Heavenly Government.
Satan and his Demons have a finite time to exist and will be terminated.

Some examples of teachings I no longer accept are:

Meetings are a command. (They are an exhortation only)
The FDS is continualy guided by God's Spirit through His Son in EVERYTHING. ( The history of ancient Israel shows God does not work this way. He does not micro-manage His people. Revelation chapters 1-3 show this also, plus if God worked that way the Angel that became Satan wouldn't have had the freedom to choose that course)
The FDS is the unquestioned authority and final word in ALL things spiritual and otherwise. (Purely human reasoning deliberatly used to empower themselves over us in every way)
Elders are appointed by Holy Spirit. (In the 1st Century yes, perhaps in the late 19 Century during Russell's time)
Women are second class. (Paul's view not Christ's)

Great Crowd vs. Other Sheep

would someone briefly help me understand the divide that exist between the great crowd and the remnant, 144,000 who go to heaven?

what scriptural backing does the society use to justify their position that they are the only ones who are able to enjoy a covenant relationship with jesus christ, where those of the " great crowd " are only granted a relationship through extension through the 144,000?.

i've been around the truth for a large portion of my life, never really knowing this was an issue.
