  I am in the process of hunting down every "source" the JWs use in their books to "discredit" evolution. I think it could be fun. For instance - Robert Jastrow, the first scientist cited in the Reasoning book, wrote in the same book: "The fact of evolution is not in doubt" (The Enchanted Loom, pg. 96).

  Has anyone done this before? I don't trust the Society to be academically honest, so I am especially interested in checking out those quotes that have "..." between lines -- meaning they could and probably did eliminate important qualifiers.

  I started dating an active Witness (my now-husband) - however, he was only in it "for show" because his family was/is still in the religion. He stopped attending meetings after we started dating, although I never asked him to do so. I have maintained and still do that if he ever wanted to go back, I would not stand in his way. Fortunately, I do not think that would ever happen for many reasons.

  Back to the point ~ I have never been a Witness but have learned a whole lot!! We had to face a lot of opposition in our relationship, as you can imagine. Wedding planning was the WORST. I cried a LOT. But we made it through, and marriage has been the easiest and most joyous time. I love every minute.

  Even in the worst times, I never regretted anything, and my husband tells me he wouldn't change a thing, either. His goal is to never set foot in a Hall again. :)

  So that's our story!

  Got a visit from JW's yesterday

  i should have known that on a beautiful saturday morning that dubs we be crawling the neighborhood.

  we've been living in this neighborhood for about a year and a half and we are usually home on saturdays.

  this was the first visit we?ve gotten from them.

  That was awesome!! I wish Witnesses would come here... but our complex has a "no solicitation" policy. Dang. Someday, I hope to have the same opportunity to make some poor pioneer actually think for him/herself.

  MY 2004 MEMORIAL EXPERIENCE

  ok, i know everyone is probably tired of the subject by now.

  i haven't had internet access all week so i didn't get a chance to tell about my memorial experience.. not that it is exciting in the least bit.. i arrived 15 minutes early and sat in the middle of the meeting hall (actually a school cafeteria).

  this was the first meeting i've been to with my former congregation in about five years now with the exception of a funeral that i basically snuck in and out of.. my whole point in going this year was to prove to myself i am no longer afraid of these people.

  What do JWs think of AIDS?

  this might sound like a weird question... i know (obviously) jws despise homosexuality, drug use, blood transfusions, and promiscuity.

  but those (as much as they might hate to admit it) are not the only ways people get aids.

  i'm far from an expert, but babies can contract it from mothers, a faithful person (married or unmarried) can contract it from a partner who has not been so faithful, a person may not know they have it, and the list goes on.

  POLL: If you're not actively a Christian - do you celebrate Easter?

  i actually forgot it was easter this weekend.

  someone mentioned it yesterday, and i was pretty embarassed to have missed that little line on my calendar.

  oh, well; since we are not practicing any religion and feel no more affinity toward christianity than toward, say, sikhism, i felt no ache in not partaking in the bunny-rabbit traditions.

  Definitely. :) As I am thinking back, when my only vivid memories of Easter as a kid (besides the church thing) was helping my sister hide eggs for her little kids... and that was so much fun. Nothing like laughing faces to make you feel complete. So I do agree - anything that brings together loved ones is a good thing. :)
