I never liked reading the study articles and I can't imagine the public did either. It makes sense both from the censorship standpoint and also from the magazine placement standpoint. In my estimation they have been pushing baptism as least all my life. I think the best fear mongering tactic was the whole, your parents can't protect you forever, angle. They pushed me to stand on my own and I did...

I could live without a tv and a phone. I couldn't live without my cat, my computer or my guitar.

I've clearly been away or not paying attention. Anyone have a link to the topics with their stories in it? Love reading especially about young'uns getting out early.

Convention look boring
by kwr ini was able to watch some of the convention for 2007 on youtube and they look boring.
do they just have three days of different programs or do they just repeat the same program friday, sat & sun?.

They are boring. I used to figure out how many minutes each part was supposed to be and cheer over the "saved" minutes if the talk ran a bit shorter. I would make a tally mark every 60 seconds of the program.

Finally getting shunned...
by bluesbreaker59 inwell my family has been doing it for a while.
but i found it really strange, that i live in an area of town with many jw's and still go to all the normal places, and yet i'd not seen them... last week, walking around downtown, i spotted my "step -aunt", (step mom's side) and she put her head down, and wouldn't acknowledge me.
then i rode up the elevator with her today, same treatment, thought today she made eye contact.

It's the hand to the side of the face turn that always got me. I think the most freeing thing for me was realizing that I make them uncomfortable more than they make me. I have other non-jws now..there isn't anything they can really do to me.

Ugh I can't believe the excitement of the JW comments. Pretty sad when the highlight of your life revolves around something like that.

Doesn't explain how Criss Angel levitates though. He raises too far off the ground for it to work with the David Blaine trick.

Jws operate on a very need to know basis, I guess if you are an elder they figure you don't need to know. Outsiders don't get the organized to accomplish our ministry publisher handbook either. From what I understand the handwritten notes in it are the most secret part. Also the money involved in making extra copies available.

Doubting JWs ever approached you?
by greendawn inwhile you still were jws did any doubting jw ever try to talk to you about the flaws of the org and instil in you some doubt?
someone had told me that he didn't believe the gb members were straight and honest people that many of their ideas were wrong and that they had a secret agenda to pursue beyond the one they publicly proclaimed.
at the time i thought he may be right since they seemed to control everything and didn't allow anyone to contribute even the (so called) anointed.

I told my best friend a few things when I left..he turned out to be having a few doubts of his own which I fueled and is not a JW today. I don't think he did the research I did though so I always worry he might fall back into it some day. I trusted him and knew he had kept my secrets before over the witnesses, someone else I probably wouldn't have.
