I paid $40 for a bus pass which is essentially unlimited transport within the city for the month between 6am and 11:30pm. Later than that I have a bike, though I need to take it in and get the tires fixed for the season both have holes in them from idiots breaking bottles in parking lots. And there is always walking. Ive walked to work it's about 40 min broken jogging/running.

meetings once a week
by Kosonen inmeetings once a week is sufficient according to the bible.
in ezekiels tempel vision we get direction to how often meetings should be hold.
ezekiel 46:1,3:this is what the sovereign lord jehovah has said, as regards the gate of the inner courtyard that is facing east, it should continue shut for the six workdays, and on the sabbath day it should be opened, and on the day of the new moon it should be opened.3and the people of the land must bow down at the entrance of that gate on the sabbaths and on the new moons, before jehovah.. a similar thougth you find in isaiah 66:23. an extra meeting once a month could be nice too.. .

It wouldn't give them as much ocntrol over the rank and file if they only met once a week. Plus they wanted to show a contrast from Christendom. Though JWs would argue that what was said in the old testament doesnt apply to them since jesus came.

One truth I did find though any religions teaching makes a person ignorant foolish and unwise, probably due to the fact that most religions were devises thousands of years ago, just a personal assumption.
The JWs werent devised thousands of years ago yet they are just as equally outdated.

How do you handle ... being shunned?
by Awakened at Gilead inmy da announcement was last tuesday, so i have been on the official jw shun list for about a week now.... i am curious how you handle shunning.my situation:.
i have spoken with my family (my parents and 1 brother) and discussed whether they will shun me.
i explained that biblically they should not shun me since i am not an antichrist, and i have not rejected the teaching that jesus cam in the flesh.

A lot of them I could never really seem to stand so I'm quite glad if they ignore me. My looks have changed a lot though since I left so some probably don't even recognize me anymore. I don't really want to talk to them anyway so I just avoid them. It helps I don't live in the same town anymore either.

I like this initiative if it spreads JWs will spend more time online and less time demonizing it and have a greater chance of coming in contact with material that will make them think twice!

Observations about dubs as people...
by Princess Daisy Boo ini was thinking back on some of the people i knew growing up, as well as my own family - many of whom are dubs... tell me what your own experiences are of these kind of people, did you notice a large prevalence of these types of people in the congs you attended:.
1. health nuts: into all sorts of alternative health theories like iridology, reflexology, homeopathy etc?
2. get rich quick folk: always getting involved in this scheme or that, this business or that - especially pyramid type things?.

I think the alternative medicine theory stems back to the idea they believe god created the planet to suit humankind so that there are NATURAL cures and balances for everything. They also seem to be more trusting of what authority figures say (when not in conflict with bible) than other people are.
As for the get rich quick schemes my grandpa got taken by a scammer in the cong. like that. I remember the same guy took other people for money too. I also remember tupperware parties, pampered chef parties and um these people that would have you over for dinner and try to sell you pots and pans telling you your pots were really harmful.

Were U Depressed Because U Were A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus inpeople get depressed for various reasons.
but do you know of people that actually suffered from depression mainly because they were witnesses?.
i know of more than a few witnesses that were always discouraged and feeling down.

I was really depressed as a JW. I never had any friends and I didn't like a lot of the people in the cong. I was always embarrassed and stood out for being a JW and that was really bad when I was so shy at the time. I also couldnt read/watch what I wanted to or go in sports or band or anything that seemed fun and it was monotonous. Plus I knew I wasnt always perfect and I was terrified I wasnt normal and that everyone in the congregation was better than me. Then being told that god hated what I was and thought about and wanted just because I was queer.

Night Guards at Twickenham
by Duncan ina very enjoyable part of my job these last few years has been entertaining clients with corporate hospitality at the rugby union international matches at twickenham.
i work for a software company, as finance director, and these events such as the six nations, or the annual barbarians tour - provide companies such as mine a valuable opportunity to spend time with customers and prospects and try to interest them in our products, or at least get them to be favourably disposed to the company.
sponsorship of rugby matches like this is actually quite a smart move marketing-wise.

I had completely never heard of any of this before. Maybe because we always had indoor conventions here but in any case a fascinating read.
