Was I mean?
by KKLUV155 ini think i did something mean the other day.
some jw ladies had been visiting my friends house for a while now leaving the mags.
my friend doesn't want to tell them to get lost b/c she is too nice.

I think mean is something you do to a person. Your friend already had the magazines and you asked if you could have them. What you did with them after that was your business. IMO they belong exactly where you put them.

I'm sure taking psychology courses are still out, lol. I'm going to have enough credits of psych for a minor in it by the time I finish university. I'm sure mom will love it when I tell her.

The absolute stupidity of Christianity
by logansrun inso often people here confuse just what the real evil is.
we think it is the theology and practices of the watchtower.

and is backed up by a canon of scripture which has absolutely no corresponding validity in science or logic. In short, it is a religion of nothing.
I don't think the entire bible is invalid. I'll use the golden rule for an example. It seems logical to me to treat people the way you want to be treated. That's not to say that every Christian follows all the "bible principles" but it's also not to say that every non-Christian doesn't follow any of them.
However Christianity is also big on judging people, even when they claim to leave this up to God. That's something I definitely don't agree with. But there is some good in most if not all religions, and Christianity is one of them. And you can find postive ideas in the bible as well, or at least postive applications of ideas.
Imo, it's fanaticism of any kind that is stupid, not the religion itself.

Religious fanaticism is a great breeding ground for pettiness
by Waymores Ghost inhaving been raised as a dub, as i look back to those days, i can't count the number of times issues were raised by the pettiest of things.
buying a vehicle that was anything but a foor-door sedan - you know, the kind most suitable for service - could in fact start a whirl-wind of gossip - he's not putting "kingdom" interests first...they don't need another car - if they're that well off then they should be helping out a little more with our kingdom hall's expenses etc.. what are some of the most pettiest issues you have seen raised while you were a dub?.

Well I always wanted a pair of camo pants, even the arctic blue that doesnt look realistic. I was always told it was too "military" and therefore not Christian.
I want to get my ear cartilage pierced but that's strongly frowned upon as well here.
When I was a little kid I used to play with water guns, after a magazine article on toys (it had a girl sitting on a chair playing with a doll and a boy with a replica gun water pistol) mom took my realistic (they were organge, green, blue, and yellow for goodness sake!) water pistols away.

What to do when you see young lives being wasted?
by shotgun ina young pioneer elder i know informed me that he and his wife have been accepted at bethel.. he's a brilliant young man with a promising future where he is employed.
the job he currently has is as safe and secure as they come and is well above the average income.. in a short period of time he'll throw that all away to go and serve at bethel.. he's expressed to me in the past the desire for children which they will also forgo until the new system.. i've almost expressed my true feeling to him several times but felt that because of his positon in the congregation and his family history of faithful missionaries and bethelites that he would not only label me as a dangerous apostate but also instigate judicial action.. i guess i've answered my own question with the last statement.
it just makes me feel sick to allow him make such an uninformed decision which will affect the rest of his life.. have any of you been faced with similar circumstances?.

Well it's not quite the same thing but I've seen it in my own life.
My mother, for example. She works, she takes care of the house, she studies. That's it. She doesn't do anything for fun. She doesn't do anything to relax. She knows this and admits this. She almost wears it like a badge of honor. She projects it as the normal life "in this system"
Another girl I know just graduated school. She had honor roll marks. She has no plans to go to college. Right now she is working part time for minimum wage while pioneering.
A girl that used to live here decided to learn another language and move where the need was greater. That kind of brain could have been put to so many other uses!
I've just learned to worry about me as selfish as that sounds. I agree with what my father said once, you can't get anyone else out they have to do it for themselves. I just try to be there especially for my friend who is teetering on the edge. I wish he'd make the "right" decision and get out.

What do you belive happens to us after we die?
by Singing Man ini was raised a jehovah's witness and like most are aware, they presently belive that by and large everyone who dies ceases to exist.
i accepted this fate for most of my life and i guess i still do for the most part, but now that i do not go to the meetings what am i to accept death to be, as i will die as well as my friends and family at some point.
i think that idea of being in gods memory made sense to me as i have excepted it for forty five of my fifty years of being alive.

I don't think anyone can know for certain but I think everyone should have the right to take a position that feels right to them. I personally am not sure what happens when you die. As mentioned already in the topic it irks me to think about simply ceasing to exist. A number of people also commented on how everything is recycled in nature and how matter and energy change states. Perhaps when we die our bodies (matter) become energy (a spiritual form). Whether we are consciously aware of it or not I have no idea. I do know if several consciousnesses are forced into sharing the same soul things could get mighty crowed (and noisy!)

Unusual Events at Assemblies
by Gretchen956 ini don't know why, but the posting about the apostates outside the tacoma dome made me think of an assembly i went to in portland oregon in the 70s.
(ok so i'm dating myself)... anyway right in the middle of a talk (i think it was the sunday main talk) we had a streaker run through.
i never laughed so hard in all my life!!!

A couple of years ago at a district assembly we had two cats running loose in the building. (it was in a hockey arena). The attendants were running around trying to catch them and I was more interested in watching that than listening to the program, got mom on my case for that one.
A different assembly but in the same building we had a bird loose that was flying in the rafters. It perched on some of the banners from the home town hockey game. Nothing like animal antics to get your mind off the program. ;)
