Classics like Little Women, Black Beauty, Heidi. My mom's doing. She had the right idea and I do love her for it.
I know you wanted numbers but this is therapy for me.
Encyclopedia Americana. Not slamming the Americana but we are Canadians.
At age 12 I started reading Mary Stewart novels. Moonspinners(Walt Disney did a movie of this with Hayley Mills) was and still is my favourite. Many of these were pocket novels aka paper backs.Now I did have a time convincing my mom that they were not sleazy novels. After she read parts of them she gave the go ahead. In her day, she said paper backs usually were trashy things that were hidden behind magazines. Of course I guess we could define trashy but we won't go into that.
I am guessing because it was more than 2 decades ago. About 25 or so? Not many I know.
Now Ozzie you need to do a follow up. How many do we have now that we are out?
I know the point that you are making here but I want to brag about the collection I have now.

i have felt drawn back to the place i was born for the last year or two.
i would be interested if others feel a connection w the area where they were born or grew up.
is it home??
I grew up in a house my Dad built. He was busy being an elder so it never really got finished but it was a fine home. We were safe and secure.
It's just on the other side of town and is still rural. I drive by every once in awhile. He sold it to other witnesses. He remarried shortly after my mother died and he sold it to move to a house in town with a big swimming pool.
Stability and safety. We used to play for hours in that country side and the parents in that area never had to worry.
Yes it is true my upbringing was somewhat tainted by a witness dogma but my parents would have been good providers whether they would be Catholics, Protestants atheists. I know why they were attracted to the organization.
I am missing the country side where I can see the stars at night. They don't have to compete with the street lights. And in the morning the birds are heard...not the sound of trucks and cars.
I think for me it's being aware the first half of my life is over. Needing to touch the past happens when you know you are now into the 2nd part of the journey.

when i was a witness we had a very paroniod congregation.
(true story) in one case we had a bad moment in the congregation and people said we were having demon problems.
thus they figured something was wrong.

this is a rather sweet story, and i love telling it.
january this year was the time when i decided for sure that i would leave the witnesses.
i had made up my mind, had told the elders that my faith had died, and so i had made the ball for my df rolling.
In 1971 while still a witness I visited the city my disassociated uncle lived. I was 1000 miles away from home and stayed with witnesses. It was convention time.
The day before I caught the train home I called him to say hullo. I could hear the hurt in his voice but tried to ignore it.
After being disfellowshipped in 1985 I made contact with him.....not bringing up that time in 1971 and neither did he. He has never rebuked me for my behaviour. My oldest cousin and I were very close until they left the organization and I am pleased to say that they have welcomed me into their family. Yes the geographical distance is there but we keep in touch.
You couldn't expect that kind of forgiveness in the organization.
Thank you for sharing your story. It truly brought tears to my eye and I too need to make a phone call as well.

perhaps i'm just a bit paranoid..but i get the feeling that there are a few posters that actually hate me (before its assumed--no i'm talking about lack of responses to my threads.. and no i am not talking about a disagreement of opinion) i am talking about a few posters that come across to me as very hateful in their responses.. and yes i know that not everyone here will like me (even though i'm so darn sweet and cute...lol) but it is an intense animosity vibe that i get and can't seem to shake.. maybe i am mistaken and maybe its just me..... but if there is anyone out there that does dislike me that much---i am curious as to why---only because i try to learn and grow everyday and your input would be especially valuable and probably essential to that -growth.. so whats the verdict---do you love me, hate me or just not care either way?.

I, too, have been getting a complex but not losing sleep over it: at least not yet anyways. I have only started one thread and I was pleased with the results.
But what I am noticing is that I am having the last word on many of these threads. I know years ago I had a bad habit of wanting the last word but that was a long time ago. I think I have conquered that though. i think

i had not attended for 2yrs but i thought they might have informed me!
they didn't tell you?
what would have happened if you had just shown up with your brief case and literature in hand to carry on in your capacity not knowing that a decision had been made?
would have been difficult if you hadn't kept up with "new light" but you could have bluffed your way through it.
