URGENT - UK Elders (or elders wives)

i am in urgent need of a copy of a letter sent to uk elders in regard to weddings held at the kh and specific comments about the responsibilities of the brother giving the wedding talk.

i'm told this is a fairly recent letter.. we have an elder kicking up hell about innactive ones who want to come and watch the wedding.

he happens to be the one giving the talk and is acting like he has full control on this wedding.

I am so glad I am out of the organization.

I have just come back to this site after an absence of several years and reading some of these postings is getting my blood boiling. Think I had better get a another cup of green tea.

When my sister got married in 1989 my husband and 3 children were invited to the wedding service because it is public building is open to all. The reception was another story. No go there. We were asked to be in the formal wedding pictures.

Why did I allow me and mine to be treated like this? Why did we go? She is my little sister. She even told me she hated it that we couldn't see each other. However, she did come to visit my children. Since my disfellowshipping in 1985 I don't get to see much of my little sister but she has been there for me when I landed in the hospital. 1987 she came to look after my children and then in 2004 she and her husband came daily to look after my cats. I am getting off topic aren't I? Sorry 'bout that. It's just that this site is bringing back some memories.

I can't believe this elder is being given such free reign? Is he just giving the wedding talk or is he in the legal capacity of actually marrying couples?

Praise to Jesus that I am out of that crap!!!!

Dixie Chicks?!

Was just spinning that cd and when I listen to Not Ready to Make Nice I think of Grace/Mouthy even though she really loves JWs. I think I could also see Grace driving a pink RV Taking the Long Way Around. I am gone so long now from the organization that it's not often I think about all the hurt, bitterness, anger that I felt because of them. But I won't kiss their back sides either.

I have just arrived back on this site after a 5 year absence as well and it is so good to talk with people who know the lingo. However....

When I made my post this morning to get feedback on a particular topic I did think of things that haven't crept into my mind for a long time. Not feeling frustrated for myself but my heart is hurting for those that still have to mend.

but please don't hold back if you would like to let me know about that aspect.

i may relate one or two situations of my own if this thread gets going.. what i am looking for is: did you notice anything that might have been taken as attempts to discredit your name, sanity, credibility etc.

Something I had forgotten about. (I have been unattached since 1981 on my terms and 1985 by their terms.) So you forget things and that's a good sign. Many witnesses are janitors, cleaners right? Banks etc. I remember cleaning the Avco Finance when I was 18. Never ever gave it a thought to rifle through any drawers or the like but how secure are these places really. I don't know because I just never gave it a thought until today. This was suggested to me by my friend when we had recent telephone conversation.

Plus there are some who are in positions of trust like nurses, hospital technicians. In a perfect world, if they are doing their jobs right they won't let personal opinions get in their way.

I work in a library and there is no way I would tamper with a JW's(or anyone else for that fact) over dues and loan periods etc. to cause them inconvenience. My job is too important to me and I wouldn't jeopardize it for those people anyways.

I do remember one JW who would have fines constantly and the line of questioning was quite accusatory towards me in particular. She never came out with "Are you doing something that I am getting all these fines?" but came so close to it. My work ethic is very important to me and they aren't worth it. I don't even tell other people what they take out of the building.

But now that my friend has mentioned this angle I have to be honest... I don't have the same amount of confidence in their honesty as I do in mine.

Does anyone remember the term "righteous lying"? Like I said before I have blessedly forgotten so many things and it just sounds like something we did when in the organization.

Wew I am having a trip down memory lane here......In 1981 I remember letting my husband think I had left the organization but when he was on the afternoon shift I would go to the meetings and I would go out in service when he was on day shift.....Did that for several months.

I never felt that anyone was going out of their way to "keep an eye on me" but I remember commenting to my non-witness sister-in-law that several times when preparing for a birthday parties witnesses would come a knocking that Saturday morning. I always chocked it up to coincidence but she said "ya know many of them would know when the kids birthdays would be through the witness relatives....maybe they are popping 'round on purpose"

It did make me think a little but not much because we would often have these celebrations on varying weekends either before or after the actual date. Also I didn't dwell on it much because I was having major fun throwing these kiddie parties. I will openly admit I did dwell on other things

I would so appreciate some ideas on this because I have a dear friend who is going through a hellacious time right now with some scary thoughts on such possiblities. He has sometimes felt that they might even be following him.

I will make one short comment about being able to recognize "them" in a crowd. I have been in a car with a friend and pointed ahead and commented "there they are: out knocking on doors" I am talking of a distance of about a block or two away and not being able to see faces. She is quite impressed with my observation skills I am such a sleuth

at the first convention/ assembly following your wedding ... did you parade around the convention site gloating in other sisters' faces, showing off your new husband?

i've never done it, but i can't help but suspect that others do.

I hope I am responding using the proper method. Haven't been on this site for probably 4 years but I was accepted using my user name and password.

I think any flaunting that was being done by either males or females was probably because now these people were now "getting some"

Disfellowshipping

i have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.

they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.

i have to ask a question.

It's been several months since I have visited this forum with the exception of a quick hullo last week.

Yes I knew what would occur after being disfellowshipped but I wasn't prepared for it. I don't think there are training courses for this type of preparation. Thank goodness there are some wonderful people to help you make your way through the muddle and mess after the damage has been done

Would I do it all over again? Most definitely YES. I can live with my own conscience knowing I made the wise choice no matter how difficult the road was. I was extemely low and even had to spend time in the hospital but to feel yourself get stronger after you have been ill can be most uplifting.

I am pleased to say the anger has subsided and the hurt rarely stabs at me. I can get riled when I see injustice being done to others. I can feel extremely anxious for someone who is gong through it because I was there and know the anxiety attached to the awful time ahead

It is possible to get over it.....At least to function. And to also experience joy and contenment. I realize everyone's personality is different and coping skills vary with each one of us. But if you can fill your life with positive people and activities it will get easier as the years go by. For starters though just take one day at a time.

it was stated that the bible has all kinds of mastakes in it because it was wrote by humion hands.

then i feel i am wasting my time studing it with your people because they tell me the bible is wright and how would i know what it right in it or wrong so i will stop my studt tommrow when they come.

I remember my Dad, the elder, giving talks in the early to mid 70's how Noah cursed one of his grandsons because his son Ham made fun of his drunkeness and nakedness. This situation occured after the flood had taken place. Forgive me if I don't have all the information correct. It was Canaan to take the brunt of Noah's curse and Canaan was the forefather of the whites whereas Put or Cush who ended up migrating to Africa were not cursed. Hence the blacks were not cursed after all.

Anyone remember this? Wish I could have pulled up that site Quotes to see what the Society had to say about it. My dad's talk was probably "new light". So with that Society based public talk in mind my parents never had a problem when I started to see someone who came from North Carolina. In fact it was a silly kind of predjudice that went the other way. My dad was quite proud to think that he might have a son -in -law whose ancestors were most likely slaves in America's history.

Was treated well in the congregation that I grew up in. But then again I had a mother that everyone adored and a father, who, though a stern elder was very helpful when different ones needed a hand.

Mimilly there were certain women that were "bewitching" yes in the organization and the married ones were so worried that they were going to lose their husbands to them.....well that's the way I looked at it. But there was probably already a problem in the marriage anyways.

I haven't taken the time to read all the posts because I want to send an email to leelee. I will be very kind......I promise.

my family will not be attending the march.

i respect bill and what he has accomplished, but i believe that attempts to control the march and the marchers, are misplaced -- even damaging for victims of abuse -- who have been controlled enough!.

the last thing victims of abuse need is to be told to keep up appearances.
