each psychologist ended up telling her that the JW religion was highly controlling and partly to blame
In recent years it's been more "okay" to suffer from depression. But they'll never acknowledge how much of their controlling ways and fatalistic outlook on life create the condition in people who put off living their lives for the end that never comes.

P.S. I remember how excited people got when depression was openly discussed in the mags. They finally had permission to be human.

Hotel Tipping at Assembly Time
by jeanniebeanz in.
does anyone remember any stories related to hotels not wanting to do business with the witnesses anymore because the witnesses were leaving literature in their rooms rather than tipping maid service?.

Tipping waitresses and other tip-dependant personnel with a religious tract is just plain tacky.
And I knew people who did this on a regular basis.
"What could be more valuable than life-saving information!"
Yeah, they were the same people who kept their service time going by sticking a Watchtower in their windshield while driving. What kooky reasoning they had. But you'd be in agreement out of ignorance. That's what being raised from infancy does.
I could *never* think like that again.

What Is A Blog?
by hillary_step innoun: a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies.
reality: digital chewing gum, where millions upon millions of teenagers and middle-aged teenagers with fetid mucous for brains post completely ignorable and depressingly petty details of their sad and boring little lives.. action : put into same category as regis and kelly, slit wrists and never read again.. prophecy : ten years for now everybody in the world under twenty-five will have a blog and snore their entire lives away posting drivel and getting fatter cellulite riddled backsides by the hour.
in the year 2010 every blogger on the planet will simultaneously post his daily rubbish to the world wide net triggering off an armageddon of apathy and destroying the human race - thank the lord.. hs

Agreed. I would say that applies even more strongly to discussion board posts, however.

What obligation do you feel towards your family who are still in?
by czarofmischief ineverybody's situation is different, of course, and everybody has their own choices to make.. but do you recall that when we were dubs, we were constantly urged to go out in service, because people needed to hear what we thought was the truth?
they would use that scripture by paul, "i consider myself a debtor to all men" etc.
to enforce the moral compulsion to go door to door.. now that we know the truth about the truth; how obliged are we to tell our family?

I feel no obligation to change the mindset of my parents. Some people are where they are because of their own needs and desires. If religion is just a man-made structure no matter what faith or denomination without God's input whatsoever, a large portion of the world is in the same boat.
Who am I to tell anyone else what to do? That's why I'm no longer a JW.

JWD "clusters" - name one ;-)
by Pole inthis is fluff stuff.
you must have noticed posters on many threads tend to come in clusters.
whenever one of the members of the "cluster" starts a thread, another few are very likely to post on his/her thread.

I'm in the same cluster as ballistic.
