Was There Ever Any Rule That You Thought Was Silly In The Organization?
by minimus inthe rule on having "large gatherings" was stupid.
because some people abused a "christian get-together" that had a lot of people, we could only get together in smaller groups.

Elder Pleads For Money For Local Needs Talk!
by minimus inmy mother was telling me how the elder went up on the platform and said how we can't pass donation plates around, we can't sell cookies or do bake drives, we pretty much can't beg for money.
then he said that at the risk of getting himself in trouble, it needed to be said that they don't know what they're going to do, but they need money and contributions.
my mother said that there are very few donating money and the congregation is in continual debt plus all the wealthier people have stopped going....i thought of metatron and knew he'd be delighted to hear another testimonial.

It almost seems with all these KM announcements that the WT has lost faith and trust in some local congregations. It almost seems like they are trying to circumnavigate the local KH and go right to the publishers for the donations now. Ah, the Great Unraveling has begun.

587 BC for Total Dunderheads
by Farkel inif you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.

I think the problem with JCannon's defense is it's length. If it takes all that time time to defend a doctrine, something is amiss. The average dub could never even dream of offering JCannon's defense, all they know are the two dates beg. and end with 1914. My mom who has been a dub for years doesn't even stand a chance let alone a new dub. To me, it's kinda like if your accountant came up to you and said he was going to change your investments, showed you a big formula you didn't understand, and then said, just trust me. No thanks.

Do you have a news reference where Serena thanks Jehovah for losing? I googled it and found where she thanks Jehovah for winning last year but I'm unable to find her current comment anywhere.

The hypocrites went back home! How lovely!
by Fed Up innot long ago i posted expressing my annoyance that my husband's parents--as the good jehovah's witness elders that they are, went up north for a month-long with with my husband's disfellowshipped ex-wife!
they apparently were only there for a week and went back home!
not quite that month long visit that i heard was planned.... gee?

Yep, my parents go out of their way to associate with me (missing service and meeting sometimes) and my family, something that feels good about seeing their 2 yr old grandson. Although, they really shouldn't be hanging out with me at all since I told them they are in a cult, I'm agnostic, want nothing ever to do with the JW religion, and regularly challenge them on JW beliefs. They cut me a break while actively shunning others both in and out of our family. Soon they will have to choose.

Yeah, I'm kinda torn about what I should do with some of my books, throw them out, keep them, drop them off at local KH parking lot and then drive over them repeatedly. I like the idea of looking things up but then again do I really want to think about this stuff 10 years from now, all the terrible memories.

Did Being a JW Make You a Bully VICTIM in SCHOOL?
by Smoldering Wick ini read this article in the montreal gazette that talked about a young witness kid being bullied in school.
it made me think back to all the times i was treated differently in school for being a jehovah's witness.
i grew up in a predominately mexican community and went to public school there from 1st-12th grade as a jw.

Actually no, I was pretty well respected in my school but then again I grew up in a already conservative Christian area, so maybe I wasn't that odd afterall. Then again, since I didn't really participate in anything other than classes and then straight home, I never really had the chance to get bullied. The other kids probably felt, why bother, plus there were about 4 other dub kids in my grade alone out of a class of 125, so I guess I wasn't particularly unique. Now looking back, I wish I was bullied, not for being a JW, but for being different or good in sports or something, or a weird hair style, who knows? Oh well.

Why My Generation Thought Porneia Was Non-DF'able.
by Englishman inin jan 1962, the wt published a questions from readers about what was and wasn't acceptable in the sack for married couples.
the article contained a paragraph, that to us teenagers, seemed to say that prayer for forgiveness for non-marrieds was sufficient if you hadn't gone "all the way" and just engaged in sexual activity that stopped a whisker short of actual intercourse.
here's the paragraph:.

All very good points, some are really funny, yet most of them are just sad. I couldn't resist, so I sent a copy to mom's email box, hope she likes it.

New World Translation: ignored once again!
by Quotes inwhile researching a reply to another thread, i discovered "the unbound bible": http://unbound.biola.edu/.
it allows you to search for a bible passage in several different translations, from king james to douay to original language hebrew and greek.
i am shocked, shocked i tell you, that the new world tranlation is not one of the options!

I remember that there was this one guy in our KH who would use a different Bible(not sure which one) in his talks and comments at the meetings. Everyone looked down on him and I do recall several times that the elders would say, ah.....we recommend that you use the the New World Translation. So, of course in public JW's say they use all kinds of Bibles but the reality is that other Bibles scare them to death. I know now that if I read the NWT compared to other translations, in many places I get entirely different meanings. If I was still in, I would just bring a different Bible to every meeting and quote from it whenever possible, just to piss people off
