No not from the platform but we did have this guy who was nonbaptized publisher(they have the most fun) who swear in his answers. On Sundays, no matter what the subject was, he would ramble on and give like a 3 minute answer full of explitives and them some how tie it back into WWII. Strange fellow.

Swearing on the platform
by sleepy indid you every hear anyone say something really dodgy from the platform when giving a talk?
i heard a couple of stories of people getting really enthusiastic when giving a talk or pray accidently swearing.
one time in my book study group a sister called someone a dickhead in her answer, it was very hard not to laught.

Have you ever preached in a prison?
by Gerard init is evident that some prison immates get asimilated while doing their time.
i wonder if any of you used to preach rutinely in a prison and what was your experience.
were you asked by elders to do that or were you pro-active?
-
Atilla
No, but always wanted to go on a prison preaching tour. Even at the time, I didn't really care about the prisioners, I just wanted to see what it was like. I guess I was watching too much OZ on HBO. Go figure.

JW's and interracial marriage?
by c.dawn inmy nephew a jw who is white is dating another jw who is black with the intent to announce their engagement soon.. i had been reading about the past history of the jw's opinion of the black race.
old writings that said they were gods people too, but not intelligent as white etc and not qualified intellectually to go door to door to teach etc.that all people would be white in the new system.. i had read of a rope being run down the pews of the fellowship halls to separate the races during services during the 50's early 60's at the halls that did allow intergrated services... this was supposed to have taken place even up to a few years after de-segregation in the schools and other public places took effect.. that in some areas they had their own hall to meet at and the whites had theirs.
at one point the members of the black hall had asked to meet at the white hall as their building was being repaired or soemthing and they were told no, that some of the members of the white hall wouldn't understand or approve.. and i read that even up into the late 90's, many black members still weren't being given postions or responsibilities that whites had held since the beginning of the jw's.. i was just wondering how far they've come along to improve this image and if anyone knows thier opinion of interracial marriages.

No one is born a racist but over time people tend to mold their thinking a certain way which may include prejudices depending on how and where they grew up. Thus, I think many of these issues are deep seated and a religion especially not JW's is not going for the most part to change anything.
Many younger JW's are very open when it comes to race and I knew many JW white girls who went for the black guys to the chagrin of their JW parents. It was funny to see the parents squirm because they couldn't say anything without being seen as hypocritical.
So, in the end I think JW's have just as many issues as other groups when it comes to race, but they just lie about their so called perfect harmony. Don't believe me, just go to a convention in Philly and see who sits with who. Sadly, it seems like they are too proud to address such issues.

I'm not sure what it all means but does this mean the WT can start to charge for the literature again?

I just confronted a car full of dubs in the preaching work!
by Atilla inyep, just got back from getting my morning coffee and they were across the street from my house talking to a lady that i believe is turning into a return visit.
i was frantically looking for the un letter, found it and then approached the car as they were just getting back in.
the old dub guy totally denied any un involvement and went into the speal about why the un and before that league of nations was so bad.

Sorry Vit, I have no such info.
However, I do have an update on this story.
The car full of dubs that I approached were at my neighbors house. I made my own return visit yesterday. Turns out that my neighbors our typical Christians but just kind of take the magazines to be nice because they like the idea an evangelizing religion. After I told them my life story, they assured my that they would never ever become JW's, I said that was their choice, but they said don't worry, we won't become JW's.
My neighbor went on to tell me that dubs had been stopping on her for nearly two years and that the older dub(around 50 yrs old) who has been calling on her was raised a JW and that is JW mom just died. Oh well, I still hope he loses this return visit and I gave her info. about such topics from blood to child abuse. The child abuse issue was particulary upsetting to her as her grandchildren live with her and she promised to question the dubs on their next visit. (Info. I gave her all came from WT Quotes)-no apostate literature here!
Well, it looks like my work is done.

Can you just have your publisher card removed?
by Atilla inthere has been much discussion on this board lately about disassociation, the pros, cons, etc.
i have not da'd myself yet because i don't want to play into their hands but that is about the only reason.
i know some people have tried the whole baptism nullification with mixed results but i'm curious if you could simply call up the head elder of your former kh and simply request that your your name and information be destroyed, you no longer want to be bothered.

I wrote and told them(Kingdom Hall) to please send my membership card to such and such church if I'd get any response.
Ah, I love that idea, only problem is that I don't have another church for them to send a card to, and don't ever plan to have another church. Oh, well, I could always make up some church.

Loved your letter, printed it out for future reference. It's such a fine line to walk with your parents without getting frustrated with their JW beliefs and then telling them to bugger off. Well, good luck.
