Today, at school I overheard two people praying and discussing Bible text. I wasn't surprised but it did serve as a reminder to me that so many people still base their ideals and hopes on religion. If this is what you need to make it through life, I guess it's fine but to me it's a weak viewpoint to take. I classify myself somewhere between an atheist and an agnostic and I rely on myself and my friends for help. I don't pretend that some magical force is going to save me or give me some divine inspiration. If God does exist and I get in trouble for not belonging to a religious group or for not going to church, then fine, I will tell him to kiss off anyways. That's not the kind of God I would want to serve anyways. Plus, just doing your own thing saves a lot of time and money. I say just be nice to yourself and your fellow man and woman, and no one can fault you for that. Follow yourself and not what someone else thinks is the best way to serve God or yourself.

Sometimes I feel lucky that I'm an atheist
by Elsewhere ini didn't fully realize it until i was in my 20's, but i have always been an atheist.
some of my earliest childhood memories are of my questioning theological teachings... even challenging my mom to better explain or prove this "god" thing.. after being severely scolded several times for asking such questions i learned no to ask them.
i bottled them up to the point that i didn't even think about them much myself.. in my early 20's the questions kept "leaking" out into my mind... forcing me to think about them.

Shippensburg State University
History B.S.E.D.
Soon to be a teacher, hopefully a college professor or state senator one day
I like all of the subjects, intellectual honesty is what I like best. If I had the time, I would go to school forever. If I wan't to know something, I simply ask.
Ironic part, now that I'm older, all my schooling is paid for, maybe the WT had my best interests in mind after all. Sure, it's fun going to school full time while working 40 hours a week and raising a family but thank goodness I didn't do something crazy like go to college right out of high school. Thanks WT.

All of that snow really sucks. It's finally getting semi-warm here in PA, it's almost 50 degrees F. today but we still have some snow left over. Well, atleast the dubs can't go door to door, right? I got to move somewhere warmer though and soon I can't take another winter like this.

I don't think you should be selling this literature, to me it would be blood money. I think it would be fine to donate your collection to somone who wants them for their collection just to have or to debunk WT dogma. Otherwise, the trash should be kept in the trash can.

Too bad he has AIDS but atleast he is free from the society. I haven't read the story and I'm not sure when or how he got AIDS but unfortunately, the Society and R&F members will try to use Jim's story as an example of why you should stay in the organization. They will say, see the world if filled with heathens and danger, stay with us and live.
I wonder if Jim ever got reinstated if he could become an elder with AIDS or atleast handle the microphones?

The UN debacle is pretty damning and is of course one of the major reasons why I will never go back. However, I have to say it is the little things that just don't add up. Why, because I think the minor details are never viewed as minor. The society takes everything, small events in one's life from attending a school pep rally to celebrating a birthday party and says no.
No, you can't do that. The micro-management of your life just kills me. I have enough to worry about let alone the society's bijillion rules and rules on rules and new light, etc. This is why I fell away, I only heard about the big things like the UN later on.

Amazing, I met a former dub at school today.
by Atilla inin my one literature class today we exchanged our writing papers so that they could be analyzed.
i exchanged my paper with this somewhat older women(about 30) who is somewhat an independent type student given that she is going back to school and is married with two children.
my paper briefly mentioned something about dubs and she admitted that she was raised a witness as well but left when she was 18. strangely, even before i handed her the paper, i had this inclination that she had been touched by the all important "truth".

In my one literature class today we exchanged our writing papers so that they could be analyzed. However, even though she was never baptized, she admitted how much hardship it had caused to her family. Basically, her family had become very divided due to disfelloshippings and certain parts of her family including her mom and dad wouldn't even talk to each other.
I was happy to hear that she was no longer a dub, but I believe she just replaced one belief system with another because she then went to go on to talk about how important it was to have God in your life and how that really helped her get over her witness past. Well, atleast she's not a witness anymore. Before, I didn't say that I was a witness to anyone but more and more I'm letting it slip out just so I can move on with my life and in a way to give a counter witness. I haven't gone out of my way yet to disparage dubs, but if someone does ask, I will let them know how I feel. Does anyone else out there bring up their past when meeting new people in your daily life other than this board or have you completely moved on? If done correctly, do you think that making statements about the WT is productive? If you do mention your past to someone at work or school, what has been their reaction? Do they feel sad for you or do they try to save you with their own belief system?

Most of my books are still at home at my parents but I do have a small collection at my present house now. I'm debating what I should do with the stuff. On one hand I want to take the books out into a field and rip them to pieces and then burn them like they did in Office Space to the printer. However, perhaps I should keep them to serve as a reminder of just how twisted and wrong the information that the society feeds to its' members. If any dub says no I'm wrong about a certain subject, I can show them the proof right from their own publications. How's that for the light getting brighter. However, I don't want my child to find these books someday when he's 10 and wrongly misread them. My child should be free to read what he wants but I think a matter of discretion is needed when your child is younger.
So, the jury is still out. Maybe they will be worth some money some day like original copies of Hitler's Mien Compf. Then again, do I really want to be thinking about the same stuff 10 years from now. Alas, will I ever break free. It may be time to clean house. Perhaps if my parents still see that I have WT books at my house, they make think that there is still a hope for me, not!!!!

my first post in this forum
by trumangirl inhello, just introducing myself.
i'm an inactive witness, been so for a few months now.
got put off mostly by 1914 being hammered more and more lately, the child molestation issue, the un-ngo thing and just feeling like i don't want to shoot my mouth off and get labelled apostate so best to fade out.

Welcome, I am fairly new hear but find this site very helpful and healing actually. I'm actually at school right now but I probably devote an hour a day to just browsing this sight. I must be careful because sometimes I ignore my studies so I can spend time here. I would love to be in New Zealand, can I come visit?
