Where's the beef?
by rockhound injehovahs witnesses look to their watchtower magazine each week for new light that would set the course for current "truth".
in looking back over the last 40 years of my association, "new lights" batteries ran out many times and had to be replaced with even newer ones.
some how this made sense to me at the time, but as time past, i began to wonder just how these "new light" articles could be called meat in due season.

The Awake's Lying Image of Witnesses (Oct 22)
by metatron inif you didn't know that the watchtower society published the awake magazine, you might.
think it was published by some semi-liberal born again group.
doesn't give a realistic representation of most witness families i'm aware of.. .

The Hooks: Which One Did You Bite?
by ezekiel3 ini have a theory that recruited jws (not those born into it) all have a specific reason why they converted.
i also believe that it is still these "hooks" that keep them going - in the face of so many facts that prove jws are ridiculously wrong.
for those who were raised a jw: was there a hook besides the negative "you will lose your life, family and friends?".

Religious group advertises on PS2 site
by Scully inone of my kids was looking up "codes" for a ps2 game on ign.com this afternoon.
i was shocked when - after he entered the name of the game (the suffering) - an ad came up for this website:.
http://www.ucg.org/whysuffering/.

The game sounds, potentially, as dangerous as the cult - hours and hours of repetitive mental input.

Legal Eagles
by link invarious media reports indicate that the wbts often employs the services of a large number of lawyers and i have seen it suggested that some of the top legal minds amongst them are in fact jehovahs witnesses.. since a qualified and experienced lawyer will have been trained in the art of digging out and scrutinising factual information, how come these people are jw?s?
if they applied their training, to the lest extent, to an examination of "the truth" (tm) it would quickly be seen as a load of bull puckey, even by a halfwit.
it could not possibly stand up to proper scrutiny by a person trained and qualified in the legal profession.

Wow, some interesting posts here regarding the training for and practice of law.
Contrary to many of the posts here, lawyers do not work only to win. We often work to advise so that no litigation arises (this of course depends on the type of law practice).
Appellate lawyers, such as those who represent the WT in appellate courts (including the U.S. Supreme Court), win not by twisting facts but by arguing - based on precedent, logic, reason, policy concerns and so on - that a particular law should apply a particular way in particular circumstances. Essentially, such lawyers argue for specific interpretations.
Trial lawyers, however, do argue the meaning of and put spin on facts so that jurors (and sometimes judges) can decide whom to believe. -

COMMENTS PLEASE ON YOUR INVESTMENT
by seesthesky ini have read numerous posts throughout this forum.
i want to get your opinions on why so many people here are so deeply invested in discussing these issues.
i find it quite interesting because some dubs (on the fringe of dubland) and ex-dubs vigorously argue against wt doctrine while other dubs and ex-dubs vigorously argue against the existence of god.

Hi. I have read numerous posts throughout this forum. My question is from where does all the vigor come? I.e., why do you care so much about these matters? I will greatly appreciate your responses.
