What is the mood in the Kingdom Halls nowadays?

when i used to go the meetings in the late 80's, the mood was good, knowing that the end was close.

later on in the 90's while i still attended once in a while, people were starting to be less zealous and were starting to put their needs before those of the kingdoms.

people started to buy houses, instead of living in apartements, they were buying nicer cars, taking vacations far away, and mostly, the women started to work, to help pay for the better life style they were living.

At this point I can only go by what my kids tell me - and my son feels he's in "the best congregation in the world." He loves it. He's a very social type, likes lots of people, lots of people everywhere like him; he is very active socially, has a great sense of humor, and really enjoys himself often. His congregation is pretty active in the service still - always was when I was there too . Streetwork is his main service, and it's mostly a social activity for him, as he only goes with his best buds. He stays on the fringe, always has friends, loves to make fun of the brothers but loves them too. Never studies (thank god!), hardly ever reads the Bible (too bad) but believes the end is very near; prays only before his meals, as far as I know. He loves to dress "stylishly" ( I can't keep up with what's cool and what isn't ).

He attends in a rather wealthy congegation, quite a few German cars and huge SUVs pull into the parking lot; the people are generous, so there is no pressure about contributing, none of the wives have to work, so it's seemingly all HAPPY HAPPY. Except for the CHILD MOLESTATION and immorality going on...(I posted under Scandals thread).

this ruddy massive bolt of lightning came pounding out the night sky, zooming down my phone line, extracting a whopping great white flashing spark from my computer.

I don't fit the requirements mentioned to be part of your new conglomerate, being nowhere near your locale and not being in the same line of work, but I'm part Scots, Welsh, and Irish, if that helps. : )

Almost a year later, and I am still angry...

some of you may remember that last march i was nearly fired from my job.

what happened was that i was having a casual, seemingly friendly conversation with a girl who i had once dated, but the conversation seemed to take a wrong turn when i told her that i was sorry things hadn't worked out between us.

her negative reaction (conveyed via body language) told me to change the subject, which i immediately did.

I thought it was only in California - so now I know - Ohio (and the Midwest?) also has extreme anti-harassment laws for the workplace too. Or maybe in this case, it's specifically your company.

Whatever the case, I can't see it any other way but that YOU WON! You won, man! 10 days with pay, though you were suffering emotionally the whole time (come to think of it, that's pretty awful). But after that much investigation, interviewing, interrogation of your co-workers while you were gone, and still you were vindicated - that speaks volumes in your favor and should actually make the girl feel pretty angry, not you!

You have contended with her and you have won.

Now let her be to you just another person fighting her own obvious inward battles.

If any of those people wanted you gone, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN GONE. And you don't know, she may be their target now, and they're just waiting for the opportunity to give the trouble maker the boot. I'm sure most companies don't adore those employees who cause them to waste so many man hours "looking into a matter."

I have seen quite a number of people terminated almost on the spot, within a few days usually, for things of this sort, and it's quite possible that, in your case, in view of the fact that you were paid while they did what they had to do, they were just going through the motions required by the prevailing Human Resources environment in this country (certainly in CA), and they were on your side the whole time.

Please take it as a victory, with no dark cloud hovering. It's over! Congrats.

I literally could not finish watching it.

I don't want to say which one, because I want to have a little fun fishing to see if anyone else felt the same way about this one....

The dubs at "Witness World" are discussing UN involvement!!!!!

i am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.

they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.

they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.

i feel like such a dufus sometimes .

i started attending a church a couple of years ago - i really like it but was really puzzled at first because they sang a lot of songs at the beginning of service.......like 6 or 7. i've gotten used to it - but still didn't really get it.

that is...until this sunday.

Dawn - Excellent points!! I always chafed when the word "worship" was used in connection w/ our meetings. We were obviously always just in classes for education. In fact, for indoctrination. There was no worshipful content at all. Thought it was just my lack of spirituality, like they want you to think.

My favorite time at the Hall was always before the meeting started, if I was one of the first to arrive, which wasn't that often, but in 32 years, it happened enough times; when the Hall was still semi-dark and peaceful; I always wished we could have a "silent prayer meeting" or something like it. Anything that would actually feel like worship.

And I was always drawn to those church services that you see in movies, television, etc., with the choir and the people joining in and saying "Praise God, Praise Jesus, Amen," etc., where there was real feeling and joy. But of course that was "Christendom" so I couldn't have it...till now anyway!

i recently dissociated myself and the elders keep calling me trying to speak and i don't want to hear it then he leaves me a message saying i have to sign a paper saying i'm dissociating myself since when did it become more of a business than a spiritual manner.

i'm not signing any papers.

has this happened to anyone else?

I believe it became a business when Rutherford took over. But it was never truth, even before that.

But about them wanting a signed statement, that's what they wanted from me years ago, when I told them during a conference call "Committee Meeting" over the phone that I "just don't want to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses anymore. And I just want to be left alone." The one heading up the committee nicely asked if I would put that in writing for them, and I gently said, no, I won't." And that was it. They couldn't announce that I had disassociated myself, so they announced that I was disfellowshipped.

...so said my mother when she asked me to read the latest watchtower on "the apostates".

she said that because i learned "jehovah" was god's name and because "the organization taught" me this, i should, out of loyalty stay in the organization.

i did not want to get into the "jehovah" name thing but i said in return that if she strongly felt this way, then she should have remained a catholic.

Actually, it was the use of Jehovah's name that convinced me that "we" had the truth back when I was trying to decide whether to get reinstated. I read the Divine Name brochure, and I was sure that JW's had the only true religion, even if it wasn't such a happy place to be.

So, this point nagged me when I (recently) came to the conclusion that the ORG could not possibly be God's Organization...until I acquired the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures from Randy Watters, looked up the name Jehovah- and it's not there, just like I had read it wasn't. Even the Society tells partial truth about it, saying they restored the name WHERE IT WAS AN OBVIOUS QUOTE FROM THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES IN WHICH JEHOVAH'S NAME WAS USED. But they added it some 237 times, not all quotes at all, and left out the occasional use of the name Jehovah instead of Lord when it would make it seem that Jesus is to be worshipped. And when I learned that there isn't one single manuscript out of all the 1000's in existence of the Christian Greek Scriptures that contains the name Jehovah, I could think of nothing but Revelation 22:18, 19!!!

That was the very last ounce of doubt I had that maybe I was making a mistake about leaving the Watchtower.
